About Stevie V.
Casa Panorámica on Lot 19 of San Juanillo estates, was built by 3 friends who truly love this area of Costa Rica! Being that we were building a home together, it was important to us that we create a space that both took advantage of the unmatched views, and where up to 3 families can be on vacation together and still have privacy.
Stevie V. purchased this House in 2010
Why Stevie V. chose San Juanillo
Costa Rica certainly does have a lot to offer. We're not saying that a rafting trip down the pacuare, or a visit to Arenal isn't also something we plan with our friends, but this area of Guanacaste is like being in the Wild West of Costa Rica. Being from an active health conscious place like Colorado, one seems to feel just as at home here by the sea as we do in our mountains back home. This place is for those willing to brave the dirt roads to get to the private pearl bay beaches and tranquil atmosphere that we could only find here in Guanacaste. Pura Vida!
What makes this House unique
Exclusive privacy for the traveller who wants to decompress while having access to a more local scene. Nosara is the closest surf-town which in our opinion is one of the better developed areas for food, sustainable minded beach goers, and a healthy lifestyle. This location is about having access to adventure when you want it and privacy the rest of the time.
Pool / Spa
Beautiful house! Plenty of rooms, clean, all the amenities, and beautiful views! The pool was clean and so was the house. Steven was awesome! We would definitely rent this place again!
Truly Lovely Home
We stayed 10 days at Casa Panoramica and wished we could have remained longer. Amazing 360 degree views, well appointed clean home with just about everything you could possibly need. Our party consisted of two families, 4 adults, 3 teens and 1 child and we were more than comfortable.
All four bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, access to a balcony (a patio on the 1st floor), ceiling fans and ac units. We prepared family meals at home frequently and the kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly need. The dining table was huge and easily seated all of us as. When we were not out sight seeing or on an adventure of some kind we opened up the glass wall in the kitchen and lounged by the pool where you could find sun or shade. There are stunning views of the ocean as well as the surrounding mountains. Evenings we enjoyed amazing sunsets and more stars than I have seen anywhere. The residence is somewhat secluded but the property is gated and the house has an alarm however we did not feel unsafe at all. I think the gate is more to keep out wandering cows and horses. On four occasions we did have problems with power failures in the house which were usually corrected within a few hours. Although slightly inconvenient, I believe this may have been due to isolated issues at the time since no other reviewers seem to have experienced this problem.
As explained the roads are unpaved from Rio Seco south. We had an SUV (without 4WD) and were able to navigate all surrounding roads, however it was the dry season. During the rainy season 4WD would be a must, especially for the road up to the house. Roads and bridges are rough so it takes a little longer to get to your destination. We completed day trips to Nosara, Ostional, Marbella, Santa Cruz, Huacas, Playa Conchal, Tamarindo and Rincon de la Vieja and Guachipelin. When we weren't traveling to a destination we stayed locally around San Janillo which was lovely and a welcome break from the tourist bustle of an area like Tamarindo.
Stevie, the house manager was super responsive and a wealth of knowledge. He had many recommendations all of which were spot on and extremely helpful. He arranged a local fishing trip which provided a delicious dinner one night.
Overall we loved our experience here and would highly recommend Casa Panoramica for the traveller looking for something more intimate away from the tourist crowd but within striking distance to that scene if you choose to check it out. Pura Vida!
Beautiful home with exceptional views and fantastic pool
Casa Panoramica is a lovely home. The setting is gorgeous with views of the mountains, ocean and jungle. The sound of howler monkeys, exotic birds and geckos are a daily occurance. The glass walls of the kitchen open to the patio which provides great views and a welcome breeze. Our group of six found it easy to cook delicious meals (the market in town has decent selection but we did have to go slightly farther for fresh seafood and meat). The kitchen was delightful and easy to accommodate all of us.
The house manager, Steven helped us to find a chef (Nartan) for one evening and we had a fantastic experience. The house has a washer and dryer which made our stay so much easier since we cooked a lot and had many dish towels. The nearby beach in San Juanillo was probably one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. The house is as advertised, and is 5 stars. The only drawback we had was with the roads. The difficulty getting to the house and to nearby restaurants and beaches was great. A 4 four wheel vehicle is a must and even then it's a little like a great adventure. Our advice is come prepared, stopping for food and beverages for meals. The local restaurants are not open for dinner and even if they were we did not want to drive on the roads in the dark. One of the reasons we picked this home was to be close to Ostional Beach to see the Olive Ridley Turtles and we were able to see them lay their eggs which was amazing!
A beautiful residence overlooking the ocean in San Juanillo
This home is beautifully built with LOTS of comfortable space for a large family/two families or even several couples looking to get away from it all. The open kitchen, dining and living rooms are extremely comfortable. The dining table is amazing, one single slab of wood! Beautiful. The pool is fantastic and the lounging area(s) are very comfortable, there is an outside table/chairs plus lounge chairs. The roads getting to the residence/San Juanillo were in poor shape- our SUV was handy to have. We felt safe/comfortable even though the home is somewhat remote. There is a secure gate to lock to the property and other homes are nearby/visible but you are on top of the world in this location! Steven (caretaker) was very accessible and informative. We would definitely return if we came back to this area.
Elegance away from it all
The house itself is amazing. The infinity pool and all of the other little details makes this place a gem.
The open glass area, beautiful rooms, stereo, tv, 180 degree view of the ocean. More than can be said.
Stevie is a resourceful and detail oriented host. He knows the area well and will make sure you also know all the details of the house and surrounding area.
Cannot recommend this place enough!
So relaxing you'd never want to leave
We stayed for a week and loved every minute. The house is fantastic! We loved opening the long glass wall to the patio and pool and just walking from the kitchen to the pool. We spent many days just relaxing by the pool, reading and enjoying some refreshing drinks. Lots of fans and the wind blows through the house so you stay cool. There is AC in the 4 bedrooms so you can sleep in comfort. House is very clean and well equipped. We cooked most meals there and had everything we needed. The house is very secluded and you can't see or hear any neighbors, well aside from the howler monkeys. It is a short drive to San Juanillo and 30 minutes to Nosara and Playa Guiones.
You need a 4 wheel drive to get up the final road to the house, especially if it is raining.
We love San Juanillo's location for both the privacy, and proximity to so many wonderful things in our area. It is located in one of the few pacific beach areas with so many rivers and still no paved roads. 7 miles to the south (20 minute drive) is Nosara, Playa Guiones, and Playa Pelada. There are so many activities and amenities there to choose from, like world class surfing at Guiones, canopy tours, river and sea kayaking, or even a class at the well known Yoga Institute of Nosara.
Just to the south, between us and Nosara is the 2nd largest turtle preserve in Latin America called Ostional. Over 500,000 Olive Ridley turtles come to spawn there between the months of August and March with the major migration happening in the rainy season months between October and January. Note: October is great for the Turtles but we do not recommend this location in October as it is very rainy and the rivers have a tendency to flood.
The area around San Juanillo itself has many private small beaches surrounding it, and is home to a local population of around 300 people. A small fishing village, it has a local grocery, a couple of small bars and restaurants, but also has a very laid back feel to it unlike the hustle bustle of Nosara. Many of the locals in Nosara actually like to come up to San Juanillo for the day to get away from the grind. Still, there are several incredible places to eat, with access to activities like yoga, fishing, diving, sea kayaking, and horseback riding to name just a few.
To the north, there is another town called Marbella that has an incredible beach with hardly any visitors as well as a surf break in front of the Tiki bar that not many even know about! It makes for a great afternoon for sure. These are just a few things we enjoy while we are staying up at our home. Come check it out, and tell us what you think.
