About Madeline Labriola

I am a retired school administrator who has lived in the Hudson Valley my entire life. I like to spend the summer in RI with my children and grandchildren. This year I will also spend most of the winter there. My house is so lovely that I want to share it with others. I have been renting for 5 summers while I go to RI and everyone who stays here enjoys themselves. I love to cook so the kitchen is very well equipped with nice appliances and cooking utensils. I am an avid outdoor enthusiast so the large outdoor area is great for eating or birdwatching.

Madeline Labriola purchased this house in 1967

Why Madeline Labriola chose Highland

This property is close to many major points of interest but private. Access to so many places is very easy. There are buses going into Poughkeepsie and New Paltz if you prefer not to drive. The rail trail system is a short distance away and there is easy access to the Walkway Over the Hudson.

There is always something to do for adults and children. Check the local paper for activities and restaurant guide.

What makes this house unique

This house has a lovely 'feel' to it and you will immediately feel at home. The rooms are large and gently decorated with hardwood floors throughout. It is easy to care for and lovely to look at. I especially like the outdoor space where it is fun to read and relax.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I had the pleasure of staying at this house for a week. On the day of my arrival ,the owner arranged for me to be greeted by a friend who very kindly had prepared a list of restaurants and must sees in the area. I was able to stock the refrigerator at the local supermarket. Shop-rite, Stop&Shop, health food markets are just 5 minutes away. My son drove in with my grandson. That evening, we picked up my daughter-in-law from the Poughkeepsie train station (10 minutes away). I found a walk-in yoga class nearby. We spent the 4th at Mohonk Mountain House. On Friday, my daughter-in-law and I returned to the Mohonk House for wonderful spa treatments. All in all, we had a great time. We are thinking of returning next year and making this our yearly summer family vacation spot.

Friends' Winter Escape

  • 5 of 5

Myself and six of our dearest friends spent a relaxing and restorative weekend in this lovely A frame home with windows throughout the house overlooking the trees and mountains. With its brightly colored walls and spacious living room and kitchen and dining areas, we were able to dine with ease and prepare

all of our meals in this well equipped kitchen which provided everything we needed with the beauty of the

surrounding scenery to provide the ambience. All of the furniture in the living room was very comfortable and we were able to enjoy all of our catch-up DVD movies and it was conducive also for resting and reading.

The beds provided a restful night's sleep and the moon shining in with its warm glow was an unexpected delight. Being able to watch the sunset with its layers of colors from the kitchen while we were preparing our meals added to our pleasure. The art work throughout the house reflected the owner's love of children and appreciation of nature's bounties. We hope to return to this lovely home in the Spring or Fall and the Walkway over the Hudson which was very close by.

Lovely house near hiking spots

  • 5 of 5

Four of us stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend. We were one couple and two single people, which was fine for the three bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. The kitchen is big and well-equipped, so we were able to cook our turkey, bake our pies (just beware, the oven is very fast) and have a great dinner together in the dining room. We enjoyed the living room even though the fireplace can't be used (we lit a couple of candles and placed them around the edge, which gave it a cozy feeling). When we weren't at the house, we were out hiking in the many nearby parks and preserves. The walkway over the Hudson is very nearby, and we also went to Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Preserve, and hiked up Bull Hill. We dined out a couple of meals in New Paltz and Poughkeepsie, both of which had great restaurant options. Would definitely stay here again for a weekend getaway!

This area is rich in history and culture so there is a great deal to do. My favorite areas are Minnewaska State Park and the Mohonk Preserve where you can hike, bike, bird watch and swim. The now famous Walkway OVer the Hudson is one of the newest attractions. If you like rock climbing there is the world famous Shawangunk Ridge a few miles away.

FDR library, Vanderbilt Mansion are beautiful historic sites that are close by. Vassar, Bard, Marist and New Paltz College close by for art exhibits, theater, music. Many free outdoor concerts in town and nearby.
