About Marilyn Murray

My family built this house in 1983 and I grew up in Sacramento, CA. My family came to the Carson Valley over 150 years ago and my mother was actually born in Gardnerville, NV (nearby). So this area has always been a home to me all of my life. I still remember when highway 395 in Minden/Gardnerville was a dirt road and only had one grocery store and 1 stop light. Great Memories!

Why Marilyn Murray chose Gold Country & High Sierra

Since my family (Mom/Dad, grandmother, grandfather, Aunts/Uncles and cousins) all lived in the Carson Valley I relocated to this area in 1983. We love the spectacular views and accessibility to all the outdoor activities.

What makes this house unique

This home has views from every window! Whether it be the Sierra Mountains or the Beautiful Valleys! There is a fire road behind the house that we hike up to the top of the mountain. A bit of a challenge going up but the valley views from up there are amazing and a block out the back door! Breathtaking!

Convenient Location, Cost-effective, and ALL the Comforts of Home

  • 4 of 5

We spent an amazing Christmas week with family members who traveled from Denver, San Francisco, and NJ. Younger relatives enjoyed Lake Tahoe: downhill skiing and nightlife, older relatives enjoyed all the comforts of home: warm wood stove, football on the TV, and showing off culinary skills. The well-equipped kitchen was great for cooking (2 slow cookers available) and baking (mmm warm scones for breakfast). Proximity to Minden and Gardnerville was convenient for a variety of shops (love the yarn shop) and restaurants away from the Tahoe crowd. Definitely plan a night at Saletti's for good Italian fare. Our local relatives can't wait to share other nearby attractions (hot springs, fishing for trout, hiking) when next we visit...and hopefully this Woodsford home will be available then, too.

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Marilyn. Your house was lovely. Just what my family needed. Spent most of the time on the porch. There is also so much to see close by.The view was great. Loved the stars at night. I forgot how many stars you can see with out all the light pollution. Would really love to do it again next year.

Owner's Response: You will be most welcome to come back! I love the decks too and your right, we tend to forget how many stars are up there in that big sky! One day we hope to retire back there but for now working is the only option. Take Care Steven. Sincerely, Marilyn

This propert is very well maintained. The beds are comfy and there is plenty of room if you have a big group. It's super clean. Marilyn made the process very easy. It was my first vrbo stay and I couldn't have been more happy.

Great location for access to Mountains

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of four that stayed for three nights centered around the Death Ride - Tour of the California Alps. The place could have easily slept six. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen modern and well supplied. Do bring your own spices and coffee. There is a coffee maker. There is a nice BBQ that we used. The house is about 2-2 1/2 miles from Wolfords, and about 8 miles or so from Markleeville. Phone cellular service is fine for calls but not far away from the house the coverage drops. WiFi is present, but not super-fast for watching dreaming movies or shows. There is a very nice wide-screen TV with cable TV. We were able to bring a small , well-behaved dog for an additional small fee. The views are stupendous . Would definitely stay here again.

The property was clean and attractive. The owners were very good about contacting us and making sure we had the directions. They quickly responded to our email inquiries. We stayed in July 2016.

Good (clean, afforable, comfortable) option if you plan to ski Kirkwood...

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house as we needed a place to stay during a freeride competition at Kirkwood and all of the stuff near the hill was either sold out or too spendy. This house worked out perfectly for us. The price was right. We were able to prepare meals at home. We liked having a washer and dryer to keep ski clothes fresh. All of the facilities worked just fine. Kitchen had everything we needed. Kids loved the air hockey. Bring some wood to have a fire to add heat and ambiance. The drive up to the resort was only about 30 minutes each day. I suppose if it had snowed during our stay, then that could be a bit of a challenge - getting up the hill. But we had sunshine. Quick drive into Minden for groceries if you didn't bring your own. Great little bakery just up the road - Hope Valley Cafe - get some pie! Certainly a beautiful place to visit any time of year. Ice fishing at Caples Lake next time! Owner communication was quick. ALL GOOD! Thanks.

Perfect basecamp for family and outdoor fun. Excellent View!

  • 5 of 5

This home was perfect for three small families and two dogs. The pet-friendly option and reasonable rental price along with beautiful views and proximity to Grover Hot Springs and amazing sledding/cross country skiing/snowshoeing at Red Lake (on the way to Kirkwood) has made this a new favorite spot for me. I love the Eastern Sierra expansive views, smell of sage and quiet atmosphere. No crowds either. While on the basic side, the house is maintained and looks to have been remodeled not long ago. It has everything you need. The beds were comfortable. The kids loved the ping-pong table, air hockey and horseshoe ring court. There's a moderate uphill hike to a mountain behind the house and a quiet neighborhood that I explored while walking my dog. A favorite moment was basking in the sun on the front porch while sipping a beer and appreciating the view.

I would recommend this property.

Owner's Response: My family and I have enjoyed the surrounding area for many years, hiking, skiing (snow boarding to)snowshoe, kayaking and just kicking back and enjoying the views. Winter is equally as fun as the summer months. Thanks you for your review Brian and we do look forward to you and your company coming back again. Sincerely, Marilyn
