The house is very private and is great if you want to get away from it all but close to many other water activities. The house is walking distance to horse trails. The home was recently renovated with kitchen and living area. The yard is fenced in and is large for boat parking and additional vehicles.
We are about 1 mile from Canyon Park, which is a wonderful lakeside park with a marina where you can take a picnic and enjoy a family outing. There is a public boat ramp about 1 mile away (check lake levels for ramp availability). Also, we are about 12 minutes with great access to Guadalupe tubing down the river.
Don't forget about hunting in the Fall and Winter. Our home would provide a great place to stay while hunting in the hill country!
There is a grocery store, pizza parlor, Italian Garden (great Italian food), and Sweeties Bakery (one of our favorite spots for a kolache or breakfast tacos) close by. And if you find yourself missing the city life, drive about 30 minutes to historic New Braunfels or about 20 minutes to Gruene Hall, or take a drive into San Antonio for the day.
Our property has 2 queen size beds and 1 full size bed to accomadate you. Please call or email me for more details!!
We truly enjoyed our stay at Becky's guest house. The house was very clean and fully stocked. The dogs loved the huge yard and enjoyed running along the fence with Rowdy. The beds were comfortable with clean sheets. I do not think we could have asked for more from a rental property. Becky was very friendly and accommodating and worried about every little detail. From the farm fresh eggs and gracious note that greeted us upon our arrival to checking on us during our stay, Becky went above and beyond. This was 200% customer service. If you are looking for peace and quiet or to watch some deer or to have just a convenient, clean house, this is the place to stay. You feel like you are in the country but can be at any restaurant or store in a matter of minutes. We recommend Becky and her house to anyone and we will be back.
This is a great home to stay while you're on vacation. It is extremely comfortable and fully furnished for whatever you may need. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the cookware, dishes, etc. that you may need and the outside grill and fire pit just make everything even better. We have a lake home and I felt just at home here as I do at our home. Becky is a great person and very accommodating for whatever you may need. She had fresh eggs for us upon arrival and even brought firewood over for us. I would highly recommend this home if you're looking for a place near Canyon Lake, and I hope we get to go back sometime and spend even more time than just a weekend trip. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that she is also an animal lover and that just makes it even better.
LATE REVIEW! Our stay was during July 4th of this year. Lost count. My wife and kids have returned to this hill country jewel several times now and hope to continue visiting for many getaways to come. It's a fully furnished, very clean and warm home. Just bring your wine, drinks, steaks, eggs, waffles or whatever makes you happy and get ready to disappear off the grid and into your retreat. Tucked away and just far enough from most beaten paths, you will not regret your stay here. You will find plenty of quiet, privacy, and serenity surrounding you. If you are looking to blend into nature and relax, this is your spot. Plenty to do for the kids too. The property lends its self for some wild life watching, playing horse shoe toss, 20-30 minute hike to Canyon Lake, a 5 minute drive to a swimming spot on Canyon Lake, and much more. I cannot leave out the friendly warmth always present, from afar, by the Yates. They are truly special. I'll end by saying my review is late only because I once again succumb to city life. Sounds to me like we're ready to head back to Scenic Terrace Retreat.
In town, in this home, the weekend after Labor Day.
Stayed with my 3 friends on my bachelor party trip the weekend after Labor day (when this area kinda starts closing down for the year).
This home was situated perfectly for us as we planned to river float, visit San Antonio, and visit Guadalupe River State Park.
8 min drive to White Water River Rentals (recommended as they have their pullout where you park your car at the end of the horse shoe)
58 min drive to Alamo/River walk in SA.
42 min drive to Guadalupe river state park
Whole house AC that works, window units in each room. 68 degrees at night no problem!
We kept it all off during the day while we were gone, but cranked it at night. It was so very nice.
House can easily sleep 2 families of 4 if you utilize the couches and futon pad/mattress in master closet.
All the mattresses were clean and comfortable (no concrete slabs)
All had good pillows and clean sheets.
Twin bed is an adjustable hospital bed. Nice feature to have for some people.
Kitchen is stocked nicely with cookware essentials and food storage containers.
Not much in the way of non-perishables so check before you go to the store.
Keurig machine is available.
Outdoor gas grill was full of propane (left side lid hinge is broken) unit still works.
Cowboy style fire pit/dish was handy. There was a little bit of wood on site, but we bought a bundle as well.
2 floating coolers
Plastic kids log cabin and swing set on site for entertainment.
Horseshoe pit with enough shoes to let 6 or 8 people play at once.
Locking front gate.
Parking for 2, maybe 3 cars inside the gate. 4 or more on the road outside.
Becky and her husband were very kind during our stay.
Becky left a dozen farm fresh eggs in the house on day 1 and offered to refill where necessary.
Their house is immediately down the hill from this one.
Aside from early morning and late evening trips to the barn to feed their horse we didn't see or hear them much at all.
They have 3 dogs (1 white lab and 2 schnauzers).
Becky let us dog sit the lab for a couple hours each day. It was a blast.
Becky was very pet friendly and I wish I would have known as we all could have brought our dogs.
I've stayed in several VRBO's here in the states.
For what this house offers, in the area that it offers it in, the match is perfect.
If you plan on water activities in the area, visiting San Antonio, or having a general relaxing vacation this house should suit you nicely.
We arrived on Friday afternoon and we were very pleased as soon as we walked in. Becky had fresh eggs waiting for us on the counter. The house was clean and the furnishings were in good condition. She had a fully stocked kitchen (pots, pans and utensils) which we cooked in on Friday night. We used all of the eggs on the first day, so Becky kindly brought us more. She also showed us some of her arrowhead collection, some of which she's found in the area. I love that kind of stuff, so I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Our family came up from New Braunfels and spent a day with us (all 13 of them, plus my husband and I) and there was plenty of seating for everyone. And everyone mentioned how nice the house was.
Becky let us bring our Chihuahua, Bubbles. We took her for a walk up and down the hills everyday, and she didn't want to stop!! I had to pick her up to bring her in!!! She loved it! She also loved barking at the deer!
The only thing that I do wish that the house had had, was ceiling fans in the bedrooms. And that's only because I am at that point in my life where I need a fan blowing on me almost all the time!!!! All my menopausal sisters will know what I am talking about!!!!
Would I recommend this house to anyone? Will we come here again? ABSOLUTELY!!!!! We had a wonderful visit and I can't imagine anybody else not having a great visit also!!!!
If you want a place to stay that feels like home, Scenic Terrace Retreat house is it. It's very cozy, in a quiet neighborhood, and close to grocery store and the Guadelupe river tubing places. Historic Gruene and shopping places are only minutes away. But the best thing is sitting on the swing, drinking coffee, and watching the deer come for visit. Truly enjoyed our stay, and meeting Becky and Ray.
The house is located off of 306. Turn off of Interstate 35 on to 306 or off of Hwy. 281 on to 306. The address is 1177 Cedar Bend, Canyon Lake, Texas 78133. The lake is a great place to enjoy water activities, such as boating, skiing, canoeing, and fishing and much more.
Wimberly, Texas has Market Days the first Saturday of each month in summer season. Gruene, Texas has the oldest dance hall in Texas with plenty of stores to shop.
Come and have fun.
