About dianne machel

After twenty three years of dreaming about it - we finally took the plunge and bought a lot in Uvita, Costa Rica. We have had our ups and downs on this journey – but mostly ups. The name Casa Mañana evolved as we quickly had to learn to adapt to Costa Rica timing. Mañana (tomorrow - or not today) was the theme of our entire building experience, it was indeed an adventure.

Our 3 years spent on this labour of love has allowed us to make our dream home a reality. Retirement has allowed us to stay at Casa Mañana 6 months of the year. For us, escaping the snowy Canadian winters has made it all worthwhile. In 2012 we had opportunity to visit Casa Mañana in the summer with our grandchildren, and it was truly a completely different, but wonderful experience.

Starting in the summer of 2013, we have decided to share our dream home Casa Mañana, as well as our Casita Lo Hicimos ( in English -We did it!) with others wishing to explore Costa Rica while enjoying the comforts of a home away from home.

We hope your stay will bring you the same joy we experience each and every day when we wake up to a new Costa Rican day. Pura Vida Costa Rica!

Why dianne machel chose Uvita

It is close enough to everything we need as seniors - yet far enough away from the bussle and noise of town to allow us to experience cool ocean breezes, phenominal views, greenery everywhere, peace and tranquility and wildlife

What makes this house unique

Each bedroom offers complete privacy and a multitude of windows to view the ocean from every room. Glass doors off each bedroom offer a large balcony upstairs and amazing ocean and whales tail views - and the walkouts from downstairs bedrooms offer an overhead or open patio and the pool just feet away for that early morning refreshing dip

Amazing view of the Whale tail!

  • 5 of 5

The moment we pulled into the drive the house was enchanting with warm and inviting decor with 4 bedrooms and adjoining baths that enabled everyone to have privacy. We actually spent most of our time on the upper and lower porches that overlook the pool. There were toucans, humming birds, house geckos and sound of howlers close every day. The pool water was always nice and cool for a refreshing dip anytime you desire. I think my favorite part was the outdoor kitchen, there is also an indoor kitchen but I so enjoyed preparing meals with the beautiful sights and sounds of the jungle surrounding me. The owners Dianne and Rudy were charming and it was such a blessing to have them assist us with any questions and recommendations for adventures. Rudy and Dianne even took us" 4 wheeling" around the mountain 1 day so we could see the "neighborhood" that was exciting and informative. Even though there is a TV with cable and a lovely comfortable sectional sofa..our entire group did not turn it on the entire 8 days we stayed. Oh yes the sunsets every evening from the porches were stunning. It was group event every evening for us. I can speak for our whole group by saying that no one wanted to leave that great house and Uvita. We hope to be back soon! Thanks Dianne and Rudy..

Paradise Found at Casa Mañana!

  • 5 of 5

There truly are not words to describe our experience as Casa Mañana. We now not only have wonderful memories of our stay in this beautiful home, but also friends for life. We drove on a very steep (but completely manageable and fun) road, passing by the famous Uvita waterfall, through the jungle to our own little slice of heaven. We have two boys, 17 and 12, who were amazed by the accommodations we had selected. They each had their own bedroom with a bathroom and doors out onto the balcony patio (as did we). Our youngest woke up early every morning and parked himself on the chair swing to "talk" to the howler monkeys and watch for toucans. Our oldest son grabbed his camera and took amazing photographs of Bahia Ballena, hummingbirds, lizards, butterflies and toucans. They absolutely loved the swimming pool!

Our daily routine was to wake early, enjoy the sounds of the cicadas and monkeys, have a leisurely breakfast, and head down the hill for an adventure. We visited several beaches and gorgeous waterfalls, all within a 30 minute or less drive from the home, and all on the recommendations of our new friends and hosts, Rudi and Dianne. Their advice could not have been better! We stopped for groceries and fruit (get fruit from the stands!) on our way back up to the house and always tried to make it in time for the magnificent sunsets. The house is positioned perfectly for dramatic views and gorgeous photographs. When the sun goes down, the geckos come out and chirp at you from their perches around the patio. The house is very private and laid out perfectly for either a family or a group of friends. The outdoor space is extremely well appointed with darling configurations of rocking chairs, bistro tables, lounge chairs, and of course the chair swing! There is no shortage of comfortable places to relax. The pool is nothing short of delightful. It is 7 feet deep, which means it remains cool even on the hottest of days - very refreshing!

Our hosts arranged a wonderful trip for us through Bahia Aventura to snorkel in the waters around Isle del Caño, which I'd also highly recommend. With so many places to choose from in Uvita and the surrounding areas, we consider ourselves extraordinarily lucky to have selected Casa Mañana. We can't wait to return! Thank you, Rudi and Dianne, for your wonderful hospitality.

Nice location

  • 3 of 5

Great location! Amazing view of the whale tail and sunsets! Waking up by the howler monkeys and toucans is a unique experience. The nice pool, the dimension of the house and the outdoor kitchen made this place a good spot to enjoy with good friends! You need a 4x4 to go there and it could be a good idea to bring you own internet if you want to be sure to have it without interruption.

A Beach a Day and Sunsets Galore

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in Costa Rica on New Year's Day and leaving the airport in San Jose, we found out that the highway to the coast was closed southbound to allow the thousands of families spending the holiday at the shore to get home to the city. The traffic heading away from the Pacific coast was amazing, but other than having to take secondary roads to get to Uvita, there was little traffic heading toward Uvita. We arrived a bit after dark, but our host's neighbors, Sander, Hans and Monique met us in town and guided us up the road to Casa Manana. The road is steep and rocky, but we had a Toyota Rav 4 (4x4) and it was no problem to negotiate. The house is worth the trip up and down the mountain once a day. We were two couples and a single adult and had lots of room and privacy when we needed it. The pool and deck have an incredible view of the Pacific and Marino Ballena National Park (the Whale's Tail) below. The sunsets over the ocean were breathtaking whether viewed from the upper deck, your bedroom or the pool deck. At the base of the road is the village of Uvita with everything you might need in the way of supplies, a bank, liquor stores, roadside fruit and vegetable vendors and a short distance down the road a great fish market with that day's catch of yellowfin tuna, Mahi-mahi (dorado), shrimp and a nice variety of other seafood. Nearby were so many different beaches and parks to visit that I lost count how many we visited. A few days after we arrived, Rudi (one of the owners) arrived and like his neighbors that we met the first day was as nice as can be. He shared some info about places to visit and things to do. We were amazed at the local wildlife, including howler monkeys that visited in the morning and toucans and hummingbirds that visited all day long. We swam in the waterfalls at the bottom of the road, visited four national parks on out daily excursions and took hundreds of photos of the local flora and fauna. Whether you want to use the house as a jumping off point to trip around southern Costa Rica like us, or just want a nice getaway place this place is for you. The pool was so refreshing, and the four master suites provided privacy and quiet when needed. We are very pleased that our hosts (Dianne and Rudi) were willing to share their beautiful home with us.

House for rent

  • 5 of 5

From abroad (France) it is not always easy to chose a house for rent, so I was a little scary. Well, I can say that we ended up in one of the most beautiful houses ! Very practical with its four bedrooms with each a private bathroom, but also very cosy ! Eating outside was one of my favourites.

The view on the ocean and the whale's-tail is impressive and the swimming pool very useful after a walk or a trip in the neighbourhood.

Personally I liked the early mornings most, so calm and peaceful, just beautiful.

The beaches near Uvita are clean and the water of the ocean is warm !

Simply I loved the place, I was only sorry I couldn’t stay a bit longer ! But I’ll be back !!

Bravo and thanks to the owners !!
