New house in 2012. Our house has two bed rooms and two baths. A spacious living room with Huge granite fire place. Our kitchen is state of the art with Bosch appliances, true European convection oven , and a black slate counter top and bar.
The floors are varnished douglas fir in the kitchen and living rooms and southern yellow pine in the bed rooms. Master bath with pebbled floor. The walls are finished with whitewashed boards as well as greens and blues, visions of sea glass. We have a fantastic stereo system with ceiling mounted speakers. The front sun room is a terrific place to eat dinner and watch the ocean and the wildlife (porpoises, birds, and seals) .boats are a great treat each day. We look directly at Blue Hill Mountain across the bay and the sun sets are, well, beyond spectacular.
Outside we have a regulation bocce ball court and our own private boat ramp for launching kayaks or other boats. Marvelous granite steps take you down from our flag stone patio to the shore, really just a few steps from the house to the shore . The beach has nice sandy areas for sinking your toes from our adirondack chairs. We have a nice beach stone fire pit for after dark bonfires. There are miles of beach to walk and beachcomb for sea glass and beautiful driftwood..Sparkling water, lobster boats pulling traps, warm water to swim in when the tide comes in, an and unsurpassed sunset top off your vacation home evenings.
We grew up in the here in Acadia region and work on MDI and Ellsworth. We have lots of local knowledge and can help with planning your the perfect holiday.
Carlton Johnson purchased this cottage in 2012
The beach house is extremly private and quiet. We are off the road at the end of a private drive only minutes to shopping, movies and the Acadia park entrance. The sun sets are over the top. So after a day of hiking and biking our house is THE place to be. With miles of beach to walk on and our woods and fern fields to explore you might just never leave the property.
Beach front , Sand beach, Bocce court, stone walls and a granite fireplace. Peace and serenity like never before experienced. Perfect for a couple looking for an oft to be remembered idyllic retreat.
We came to Maine to explore Acadia Nat'l Park, but wanted to avoid the crowds during down times. The property location was perfect for several reasons: 1)Acadia (which is AMAZING) was a short drive away. 2)Depending on what side of the island we wanted to explore, our home base location - top north, allowed easy access to east side or west side. 3)This prop location is quiet and set back with virtually no traffic getting in and out. The only lights we saw at night were the moon and stars over water. Home is close to Ellsworth for groceries etc..
Property comes with kayaks - awesome to be able to launch right out back door! Very cool lobster shack across the bay - byob! There is one TV, which was not working while we were there (no cable, no basic channels, nothing at all ~ however, this was not a problem for us). Bar Harbor was 20 min drive for shopping, restaurants, bars, etc. The stereo sounded great. The well water tasted good to us (that's what we have at home), although the owners have provided a water dispenser with multiple 5 gallon containers of water available should you prefer that. Kitchen is great. Sunsets are everything previous reviewers described. The Bocci court in front yard was awesome . Owners were great and responded to all my inquiries/questions before we arrived, and without any prompting on my part they sent security dep back quickly. Would love to come back again ~ Thank You Carlton and Kathy.
We stayed at the cottage in July, it is very private and the ocean views are just beautiful. The sunsets are spectacular. Can't say one bad thing about this place. There is a regular coffee maker, not the Keurig as stated. Also one small thing is the room with the table gets very, very hot with the sun beating down all day. Perhaps some blinds would help to keep the hot sun at a minimum. Again, not a big deal, we just shut the doors and did not go in their until at night. I hope to be back again next year. If you want privacy and quiet, this is the place to be. It is very close to Acadia and Ellsworth. The ocean is beautiful and no boat traffic like you see on lakes. Carlton is most gracious and was very helpful with my questions. I am sorry I did not get to meet him or Cathy.
We are Brits living in Montreal and this was our first stop on a two week Main vacation. Having never been to this part of the world before we did not know what to expect, but we were not disappointed.
The cottage is tucked away down a lane right by the water and you can walk the beach to your hearts content. The cottage itself is extremely comfortable with lovely personal touches and excellent finishes, which shows the love Carlton and Cathy have for the place. The bedroom is delightful with windows on each side so you can wake up the the sun or the fog, either way a beautiful view. Our Bullmastiff Ruby loved the freedom to play in the garden, walk the beach with us or have a paddle.
Groceries and restaurants can be found in Ellsworth (15mins - we would highly recommend The Cellar) or Bar Harbor (25mins).
Thank you Carlton and Cathy for allowing us to stay in your home.

You couldn't ask for a more ideal location. The house is tucked back so you feel like your far enough away but, with a short drive you can immerse yourself in Acadia & easily explore all of MDI. We suggest visiting the Schoodic peninsula side of Acadia as we found this less crowded with some of the most breathtaking views. We also made several day trips up and, down the coast exploring quaint towns, visiting numerous lighthouses and, just enjoying the natural beauty. Seeing Puffins and, a Finback whale on trips we made off the coast were some of the highlights of our vacation. But having this setting to come back to made this a truly memorable & relaxing vacation. From waking up to the sound of Loons calling on the water, to walking the beach just steps from the back door or, enjoying the amazing sunsets we couldn't have asked for more. It was nice to have the kitchen to prepare a few meals as we visited the Bar Harbor farmers market on Sunday to get locally produced meats & cheeses. Plus being a short drive from the Trenton Lobster pound we often picked up lobstah sandwiches to enjoy while just relaxing after a long day of exploring. The owners provided helpful tips as we planned our vacation and, once we stepped foot into the house we felt right at home. It was hard for us to pack up to leave and, we're already planning our next trip back.
We arrived at the beach house after two long days of car travel from the DC area. We were pleased to find the house at the end of a dead end, the gardens were pretty and the view wasn't instantly noticed as you drove in, but when you step in the house , all the windows provide a view of the bay which was only a few steps away from the waterfront side of the house. We had never kayaked but gave it a try with the kayaks provided and really enjoyed it !We do a lot of cooking at home and had a blast in the kitchen , it was so well equipped, and cozy. There were a number of pieces of art in the house and garden in a Mermaid theme, and we had some fun finding them all! The house was nicely furnished, we felt right at home and the kids enjoyed endless beach combing, and had quite a collection by the time we regrettably had to leave :(. We will be back!
We stayed at the Beach house last June with our dog Shiloh , a black Lab. It was our first time visiting Maine and the owner was very helpful in advance of trip, just giving ideas of day adventures in the area and Acadia. The house was super clean, very comfortable and made it easy to relax quickly . The views of the ocean were amazing and we spent every morning drinking coffee outside on the terrace, VERY peaceful and ever changing with the tide. Shiloh, of course, had a ball swimming, it was hard to get him out! All in all it was lovely, private and made our first trip to maine perfect, thank you!
very quiet and private setting only minutes away from the Acadia Park entrance, Bar Harbor, and Mount Desert Island activities, such as whale tours, fishing tours, diving tours, climbing adventures, hiking, and just plain relaxing at the rental.
