About The Owner

We moved to the mountains from the South Carolina coast in 1998. While I've been a financial advisor for over 30 years, our move allowed Jeannie to pursue a dream of opening a small business... The Jeweler's Workbench... in downtown Waynesville. After a successful 10 year run, she sold her gallery and is now enjoying the 'retirement lifestyle.'

When purchasing our residence several years ago, we discovered that we had a 'hidden gem' located at the back of our property ... a small cottage in total disrepair... awaiting a facelift. After several years of constant attention, The Cottage has now been transformed into a charming getaway for all to enjoy.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2005

Why The Owner chose Smoky Mountains

We started vacationing in the area in the early nineties and immediately fell in love with the mountains, the people and the opportunities for a better quality of life. We finally decided it would be less costly to simply move to the Waynesville area... considering we were vacationing in the area 3 to 4 times a year!

What makes this cottage unique

While The Cottage has maintained its classic style and appeal, the property offers guests all of the modern conveniences and comforts of home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay at The Cottage, with all the little touches…wine, fruit and Sadie especially like her water and food dishes a greatly appreciated the doggie treats.

The distance from the cottage to the town was another plus! We hope to make it back and would love to stay at The Cottage again. Thanks so Much :-)

Wonderful Stay at the Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at the Cottage and it was as wonderful as the first stay. It is comfortable and well appointed with nice personal touches. The location in downtown Waynesville is convenient and serves as a good base for amazing day trips to hike, see waterfalls, scenic drives, etc. We enjoyed the trip to Skinny Dip Falls off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I highly recommend the Cottage and would definitely stay here again. Tom is courteous, professional, and a pleasure to deal with as well.

Lovely Restored Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our week in Waynesville was fabulous! We highly recommend The Cottage for your stay. Tom and Jeannie have down a wonderful job in restoring and furnishing The Cottage. Upon arrival we immediately noticed how neat and clean it was. The Cottage is within easy walking distance to shops and restaurants in downtown Waynesville. It is a great location for day trips to Asheville and mountains. Tom and Jeannie were the perfect hosts. We look forward to returning.

Wonderful property and great host

  • 5 of 5

We spent last weekend at The Cottage, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! Waynesville is a peaceful little town with excellent restaurants and great, reasonably priced, shops. The Cottage is a beautifully renovated property, with the perfect amount of space for a weekend couple's getaway. Even in July, we were able to sit in the little courtyard at The Cottage and enjoy the perfect weather. Tom was a wonderful host, and provided a packet of information on local restaurants and events, along with some local treats. We hope to make our visit to The Cottage into a yearly (if not more often) tradition.

well-appointed cottage in great location

  • 5 of 5

Location is perfect if you just want to park your car and walk around Waynesville; Main St. is 3 short blocks away and offers lots of restaurants and shops. The Cottage was nicely decorated and very well-appointed from the kitchen to the bath to the bedroom. Though is it small it is well-designed and easy to maneuver without running into each other. The garden and patio are lovely; even in late July there was always some shade and a breeze. Tom was a helpful and delightful host who was eager to make sure our stay was comfortable.

Our favorite restaurant in the area was Lulu's in Sylva but Bocelli's (Italian), about 5 blocks from the cottage was also quite good. Both had nice shaded patios so we could take our dog.
