I've spent the past 15 years enjoying my summers on Cape Cod Ave. This is the 3rd year I'm renting the house out. I can't tell you how much I enjoy this neighborhood. It's truly a great place to live. Due to a job opportunity I've moved up closer to Boston, and thought this would be a good opportunity to share my house and this wonderful area with others.
John Baker purchased this cottage in 1998
I've been visiting the Manomet Beach area since High School and spent several years renting in this very neighborhood. I liked it so much I bought this house on street over from where I rented and haven't regretted it a day in my life. Over the years I turned it from a very basic 1932 built cottage to an upgraded year round house, with a deck, outdoor shower and a great backyard. It's been an incredibly enjoyable project for me and I'm hoping my summer tenants will enjoy as much as I do.
The layout and proximity to Manomet beach are the best things about this house. You can walk to the beach in 3 minutes and spend the day . When you come home you can grab a shower and kick back in the shade in the back yard and enjoy dinner on the 16x16 deck. I also love the outbuilding in the back which I often stay in when I have guests visiting. It offers a separate living space when you need to get away. With power and lighting it's like having a second home on the property.
The property is well equipped for a family. Mr. Baker has all the kitchen needs as well, the house has comfortable bedrooms and a great yard. The outdoors is well maintained and the owners are very gracious to their guests. The beach is only a few steps away and overall a wonderful, family retreat.
We really enjoyed our stay at John's house. Though the overall interior is rather dated, he has added many upgrades that include all of the modern conveniences one would hope for! The deck was fantastic and we spent most of our time on it, enjoying the ocean breezes and the starry nights. Even though the houses are very close together in this neighborhood, the lot was private with an array of bushes, trees and flowers. The beach is a very short walk from the house and John has everything you'd need (beach chairs, umbrella, cooler, boogie-boards, and a wagon to carry it all to the beach entrance) - all we had to bring were towels. There's even an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand when you return. We weren't able to find many restaurants that delivered to the address, but the grocery store, package store and a variety of restaurants offering take-out were a short drive away. The only "down-sides" worth mentioning are that it was noisier than expected (lots of dogs barking, frequent chatter from the many families walking to and from the beach, lots of hammering and sawing from neighbors erecting decks/fencing, and a number of rumbly pickup trucks regularly traveling back and forth on the streets in front of and behind the house) and getting down to the beach - especially with any of the equipment mentioned previously - can be a bit treacherous on the very steep stairs that take you from the street level down to the surf's edge. It's worth it though; the private beach is clean and expansive and the views are gorgeous. It was never overly crowded either; there was always room for your "own" little section all to yourself. Everyone we met was very friendly, and no one was bothered by our little dog who had so much fun running up and down the shoreline. She loved getting to meet so many new friends - human and canine alike. We had a great time here and would definitely return in the future! Though we didn't need anything from John during our stay, he readily offered his assistance in answering any questions and was always prompt and thorough in responding to inquiries submitted prior to our trip. Thank you!
