Located in the Heart of Charleston's Historic District, Southern Comfort is docked at the Charleston City Marina and less than 50 feet from our gated parking lot.
We are 3 blocks from the Historic Battery just past the Coast Guard Station, and six "city blocks" from Meeting Street and the Market Area.
From the magnificent architectural homes of the Battery, and the finest restaurants in the south, to the art and antique shops, Charleston is a place unlike any other.
The Crew of Southern Comfort has been getting ready for your arrival. We love sharing our boats and our life on the water, but best of all we love saying welcome to Charleston.
Chris and Ellie McIntire purchased this boat in 2004

A group of friends & I were so excited to celebrate a special birthday & thought the unique experience of staying on a yacht in Charleston would be amazing. We should have known from the beginning not to book this trip after we initially started our trip search two months in advance & it took three weeks to even get it reserved. We first communicated with Captain Chris McIntire via phone & it seemed all well & good. He talks a good game, but our experience with McIntire and his mysterious assistant, Angela, was in no way good. We had to go back in forth for weeks just trying to make a reservation. We should have taken this as a sign to “jump ship”, but we unfortunately did not! Each time we corresponded there was confusion on their part as to the details of our trip, we were told it may have been booked by another party, had to wait days to hear back each time we corresponded, had to ask multiple times for an invoice to reserve our dates, were told incorrect dates were reserved, on & on. That headache experience is only the beginning! We arrived not knowing where to even go to find the boat once we got there, as there was no check in instructions. Once we did find the boat and cautiously board not knowing if we were even entering the correct boat other than going by the name, we were taken aback due to the extreme August heat aboard. We texted with McIntire to let him know how hot it was (especially in the front of the boat) & were told the boat had been taken out and the crew didn’t turn the AC back on. He also told us just to open the door. Never did McIntire come himself or send any “crew” member to meet us or check on the AC issue. We spent three days/nights with half of the boat never cooling. Some of our party ended up sleeping in the main salon. Sounds “comfortable”, right? It is not. We were very careful to read the instructions when staying aboard and kept everything clean & well taken care of up until we departed, especially after reading that we may be “aggressively charged” if we did not. Once home we received a text with a picture from who knows when of some wet carpet aboard the boat and were asked if we moved furniture on top of an air vent. No, we did not. It has been 8 weeks & no return, or reason for no return of our deposit. Each time we have texted or emailed we have been promised our deposit returns & given multiple lame excuses as to why it has not been returned. Just save yourself time, energy and happiness and do not stay here!!!
We booked the Sea Deas (previously the Superior Lady) a year in advance for our daughter's College of Charleston graduation. We never book anything that far in advance but we knew Charleston would be crazy this weekend with several graduations and mothers day weekend. We decided on the Sea Deas vs a house or hotel because we thought it would be different. It was the best decision we ever made! The boat is beautiful and spacious. It had everything we could have needed and staying here really made her graduation weekend even more memorable. Thanks to Chris and Chris (manager and owner) for such great hospitality. We would recommend staying here to anyone who is coming to Charleston.
I had booked Southern Comfort last year for four ladies travelling to the Charleston Garden Tour. Unfortunately, there was a mix-up in the booking and the boat was unavailable for us. Chris tried to find a replacement yacht but there were none available. We ended up having to stay in a hotel and for only one night rather than the two we had planned. Chris was very upset about the “goof-up” so told me that I could book another two nights without charge!
I took my husband this last weekend and we stayed on Southern Comfort. It was a very pleasurable experience for the two of us. We stayed in the Owner’s Salon which was very spacious and yet cozy. The king size bed was very comfortable. We did not cook, but went to several different restaurants for breakfast, happy hour and dinner. Chris has two bikes for you to use but we had brought our own so didn’t use his. One nice feature of the Marina is that there is a complementary shuttle to downtown so you can get a ride in. If you don’t stay out late they will pick you up, but most people get a taxi back.
All in all a very relaxing and enjoyable experience!
This was a quick weekend trip before a convention and my husbands 50th Birthday. I wanted something special that we had not done before. When I saw this Superior Lady - renamed the SEA DEAS I had to give it a try. I can assure you, the pictures do NOT do this yacht justice. It was spotless and so comfortable. Kitchen has everything you need from a fridge, microwave, stove and Keurig. From the gentle rocking of the floating dock, the amazing oysters beds growing on the pier (you can see them when the tide goes down), the ease of getting around to downtown, battery park, the market, etc. Everything in Charleston is nearby but not too nearby. There is a convenience store, liquor store and restaurant at the marina for anything you may need or forgotten during your trip. This is a 3 bedroom, yacht and the master and guest are very roomy and the 3rd has a bunk set up which would work well for 2 average size adults or very roomy for children. I know my grandkids would have loved - LOVED the bunk room. On our last morning, drinking our coffee on the aft deck when I was telling my hubby that I did not want to leave....here come the dolphins right by the yacht. I cannot say enough about our wonderful trip. We did not have any problems at all aboard the Sea Deas and we are definitely hoping to get back next year. I can assure you, you will not be disappointed.
My husband planned a surprise birthday trip for me, destination unknown. I finally figured out after landing in Charlotte NC and being told we had a three hour drive that we were going to Charleston, a city I had never visited but have always wanted to do so...the final destination was realized by me after we ended up on I dock at the Charleston City Marina that we were to stay on the superlative 54 foot yacht the Superior Lady. This became our floating luxury B & B during our four night stay. Every possible amenity and need was anticipated and provided. The master suite was wonderful from the bed's comfort to the luxury linens. The galley kitchen was perfectly outfitted for our needs for our breakfasts with mimosas on the aft deck. We had dinner on board prepared by a private chef served by the delightful Jen Caruso and watched the sunset and dolphins leisurely passing by. We were able to walk in to the beautiful downtown Charleston and when tired or when raining, the marina courtesy shuttle was there to bring us back to what we came to call our "home on the water". If I had to pick any negatives (and it was a stretch to do so) I would only mention that the keurig leaked upon occasion and we had a slight problem with the master head holding tank being full but that was quickly corrected. I would recommend this rental, and this rental company to anyone and while it was extremely difficult to leave yesterday morning we will certainly come back!!!
We stayed on the Southern Comfort last weekend during the Charleston Food and Wine Festival and the boat more than exceeded our wildest expectations. The pictures above do not do it justice. There was more than amble room, the amenities were top class, the boat was spotless, and the owner was extremely accommodating and made the entire process super easy. The Marina is located just a few blocks from historic downtown Charleston making it very convenient. I would highly recommend the Southern Comfort for anyone planning a trip to Charleston!
