Overview

About the property

Hidden in a residential area only 5 minutes from Downtown and 6 blocks from Zilker Park is a nearly 1-acre estate with a view of the western hills. The home is a sprawling, rustic 1930's ranch house that has been updated to enhance its original character. Enjoy the large family kitchen, cozy den with fireplace, romantic master bedroom with a view, and wide open shady lawn with plentiful seating, hammock, and treehouse.

Stay home and enjoy the quiet privacy, where you will have solid WiFi, quality and antique furniture, original art and luxury linens. Or venture out with ease to the many activities nearby. We offer bicycles to explore Barton Springs Pool, hidden wet-weather swimming holes, and the trails of the Barton Creek greenbelt. Or cruise down the hill to Lady Bird Lake, where you can row, canoe, paddle board or circle the trails. There are so many eateries, pubs and coffee houses close by that we’ve published our own guide of “Things to Do, Places To Go, People to See” for your stay. Zilker Park offers the ACL music festival, a kite festival, and live outdoor summer theater. Its botanical garden or the nearby Umlauf Sculpture Garden are great places to picnic. At the end of the day, dance to live country music at the locally-famous hole in the wall--the Broken Spoke--or check out the HighBall retro bowling alley/karaoke bar and neighboring Alamo Drafthouse Cinema--uniquely Austin experiences.

If you want to venture outside the neighborhood, we're oh so close to Downtown, and also to the University of Texas. Just west of town is the Texas Hill County, where you can sail or ski on the Highland Lakes, tour local wineries, or attend a small town festival or market weekend. We’re happy to help with suggestions whenever needed!

About Ann Giles

We are a husband and wife team that loves old houses. We were each renovating our own 1940's era home when we met. Since then, we've acquired two additional homes and had four children. We love spending time with both--keeping the houses in great shape for years to come and keeping the kids busy and fed! One of us is a native Austinite and the other has been here since 1995, so feel free to ask us anything you want to know about Austin, and we will try our best to help.

Why Ann Giles chose Austin

We fell in love with this property when we discovered it. We were not even looking to buy a house, but stumbled upon it and never looked back. It felt like a move to the country, as it is located on a quiet hilltop with a view of the western hills and gentle breezes blowing through the trees. It is secluded from the street and neighbors, yet right smack in the middle of the City--only minutes from downtown and walking distance to Zilker Park and Barton Springs.

Charming Ranch House

  • 5 of 5

The house is quite beautiful. It has lovely furnishings and great character. It is perfectly hidden. Nestled in the trees overlooking the lights of Austin. The bedrooms were as described; very comfortable. The kitchen was by far the favorite spot. The pictures don't do it justice. We are looking forward to our next visit to Austin already. The one other thing I would say is that Ann does a great job with her descriptions and photos. If you notice, the main bathroom is shared by the three bedrooms including the master. It worked well for our family but for multiple couples it might be difficult. Having said that though, the rest of the house and the lawn make up for it. I would definitely recommend this house.

Stunning Property - Indoors and Out

  • 5 of 5

Exactly as listed - the perfect hilltop hideaway. Enormous chef's kitchen opens to a beautiful yard. That is really the selling point - fire pits, heaters, hammocks, plenty of seating. Could not recommend this unique ranch house enough. Indoor touches include exposed beams, fire place, upright piano, screened-in porch. Was ideal for our weekend gathering.

The location was perfect. ½ mile from Zilker Park and 10 minutes via car to South Congress or 6th Street. Owners were super helpful with both housing and recreation needs and suggestions.

The jewel of the house is the kitchen and eating area with wrap around windows. My group constantly found ourselves sitting at the island or table marveling at the view of the courtyard.

Would definitely go back there again!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

As my teenager said, " this place is really cool!" Very comfortable house with some interesting architectural features. The kitchen features a large island where everyone hung out. Everyone had there own space which is always nice. The yard is huge with a view of parts of the city. The owner was very nice and accommodating. Yes, we would stay here again. If you are renting bikes, get the ones with gears to get up the hill!

Beautiful house!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful home, and wow, what a kitchen! Everything you could want, before you knew you wanted it. It was a perfect place for us to host an intimate dinner party that left us with memories that will last forever. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are spacious, and there is enough space for privacy when you want it while still allowing the feeling of camaraderie and togetherness with the whole group.

Arranging our stay was easy. The owners are very kind and helpful.
