I very much enjoyed my 5-day stay at this property. The home is obviously well-maintained and clean. The pool was great for the hot desert days. Even though there are close neighbors, there is privacy. The back yard is beautifully landscaped. All the appliances are in working order and easy to use. The golf course is also well-maintained and includes a gym, library, and clubhouse restaurant. There's a great art and golf scene in Borrego Springs, and beautiful desert hikes.
This is a great vacation property. It's a nice layout with working appliances and it's obviously well maintained. The pool was great, and while there are close neighbors it feels very private. The golf course is beautiful as well. It's close driving distance to lots of local golfing, nature, and art.
Our rental agreement called for us to be in the property for the months of March and April of 2015. Had we inspected this property in person we would not have rented it. Living in Montana made such a personal visit impossible. There were no reviews of the property on the VRBO webpage. Based on comparable rental fees in the area, we were paying top dollar. Having specified that cleanliness was a top priority, we were more than disappointed upon our arrival to find a property suffering benign neglect, in need of serious deep cleaning, and lacking adequate storage. My wife's reaction to stained carpets and chairs, floors that needed cleaning, dirty windows, living room blinds in need of repair/replacement, and rickety kitchen chairs, was to tearfully plead to return home. We have photos of accumulated grime and dirt in corners, debris in florescent kitchen lighting, and many others photos that more than justify her reaction. Lack of adequate storage space added to our discontent. There was storage space, but available drawers and closets were filled with the owners' belongings. The garage was a mess. Bed in master was not a queen. The day after our arrival, we notified the owners of our discontent and told them we would be willing to stay the month for which we had already paid, but that in view of what we considered non-performance on their part, we would not stay the second month. The wisdom of this decision was more than verified as we witnessed a parade of workmen in and out of the property--to replace blinds, unplug one of the toilets, address flooding of the patio caused by a leaking drip system, and replace the hot water tank that flamed out overnight. To our chagrin, we were obliged to cancel invitations we had extended to friends and family to come for a visit. VRBO photos of the property featured a pool and spa, each heated by propane at renter's expense. It turned out that the approximate cost of heating the pool was an additional $600 per month; heating the spa about $15-20 per day, provided one was not put off by the badly stained unit. There was but one small light at the end of the patio which didn't allow use of the patio in the evening. We again notified the owners of ongoing issues, arranged for return of keys and notified them of our departure date. In that letter we requested return of our refundable security deposit ($500). We informed agent of a problem with ants and bugs. To date, we have not received our deposit.
