My husband and I stayed in this lovely home in January 2014, the owner was very gracious and we enjoyed our stay we treated his home like our own. Although it was much larger then we needed we were very comfortable and would come back again if the opportunity arose.
We just returned from a wonderful week at this home. We are a family of five with three teenage sons.
The house: Everything was just recently updated. The home is beautiful with everything you need for your vacation. We have rented many homes through VRBO over the past ten years from Vermont to Aruba and as far west as Colorado. This home is one of the best. It was better equipped than most you will find. The kitchen is fabulous and has everything you need. We did not have to buy anything except the food we wanted. There was more than enough room for us. You could probably easily fit more people. The backyard is beautifully landscaped with multiple tables, plenty of chairs, a hammock and a hot tub. We enjoyed the hot tub at the end of the day watching the pelicans fly by to the many marinas around that have boats coming in to clean fish. The neighborhood is quiet and close to everything.
The rental agent: Paulette was extremely easy to deal with in setting everything up and probably one of the nicest people you will come in contact. We left early on the day we checked out to spend the day at Miami Beach before our evening flight home. Late that morning, Paulette called to tell me I had left behind a small bag that contained my laptop. She graciously offered to overnight it to me. The problem was that I left my truck key in the bag so we would have no way to get home from the airport. So i left my family in Miami and made the trek back to Marathon. On the way, I hit the check in traffic. I called Paulette and she stopped what she was doing and started driving north to meet me half way. There are very few agents that I have encountered that would do this for you. She really helped us to avoid a major problem. I can't thank her enough.
Activities: We had bikes delivered on Sunday for the week through Wheels to Go. We enjoyed going for rides and you get anywhere you need to from the house. We also had paddle boards delivered and you could paddle right off the dock in back of the house and go through the canals to see other houses. We also did a few onshore fishing charters with Mike from Best Bet Fishing charters at Key Colony. My wife, 13 year old son and I went on a 3/4 day charter and caught over 100 fish. We kept more than we could eat for the week. We went back out with Captain Mike on Friday afternoon with my 19 year old son. He caught a 9 foot 275lb bull shark that he fought for 55 minutes.
DIVING Soft breezes and calm waters also make summer a prime time for diving and snorkeling, and for many, no time is better than the start of lobster season in mid-summer. Coral ledges in the bay just off the property are popular spots for lobster dives. The Marathon area features a number of prime dive spots. Coffins Patch stretches for over a mile with water depths of 10 to 30 feet. Sombrero Reef is a spur reef with a wide variety of coral formations, colorful fish at depths of 2 to 25 feet, and mooring for boats.
