About Ron & Angela Peterson, Innkeepers/Owners
Ron and I fell in love with this property at first site, and were so excited to restore it to its current glory! We are native Oklahomans, growing up in Stillwater and Tulsa. We enjoy hiking the mountains, swimming in the lakes, and all the festivities in the Medicine Park/Lawton/Meers area. The Cabin is our getaway place and we hope it becomes yours, too!
Ron & Angela Peterson, Innkeepers/Owners purchased this Cabin in 2011
Why Ron & Angela Peterson, Innkeepers/Owners chose Medicine Park
The Romantic Mountain Cabin is in the prime location - a private oversized estate on quiet Mt. Dunbar on the east edge of Medicine Park, yet it is only 3 blocks from the Old Plantation Restaurant and all the attractions and fun in town! We are also one of the CLEANEST places to stay. The Cabin is the most luxurious and largest home available for couples in the area! Must book with credit or debit card. Call us for venue/wedding usage too!
What makes this Cabin unique
The Cabin has THE ONLY king sized bed in the area. The ONLY place to stay with 2 real fireplaces! We have weddings here and guests Honeymoon here! No other property has a fireplace view from bed, huge sunny windows, and all the other amenities such as this! You deserve the best - please stay with us soon! Not as nice as expected.
We found the property to be somewhat rundown. The lawn has not as shown in the pictures. Was overgrown with weeds which made our first impression not the best. As well as the driveway had serious ruts that would not be good for smaller vehicle. The chairs on both the front porch and back patio had been broken and in fact one on back patio had been wired back together. Inside the cabin the jets did not work in the bathtub. When I contacted owner she said a previous guest had broken which is why she only list bubble bath on site. Didn’t know that was code for no jets. The fireplace promoted on site in bathroom did not work. No cable on tv. Only able to watch a few local channels. There was just an overwhelming sense of rundown to the cabin that for this price per night that was disappointing. I feel like if I had stayed at a hotel at this price per night and found this many unkept or broken parts of the property I would have felt it was not a good value for my money.
Some positives include that cabin was clean on the inside and it was a quick walk to downtown but far enough away from high traffic to enjoy peace and quiet.
This cabin is great but could use a few minor updates. We would recommend it during warmer weather seasons, as there is not a great deal to do in town when it is cold.
Rustic Cabin in Quaint Medicine Park
My husband and I enjoyed two nights at the Romantic Mountain Cabin in historic Medicine Park, OK on Oct 21-23, 2016. We were so impressed with the beauty of the area, the fabulous drive up Mt Scott, hiking trails through the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, bike trails, restaurants, live music and serenity of the cabin. It's a simple hike from the back door of the cabin up Mt Dunbar and easy walkability to shops, restaurants and the river activities in this quaint mountain town. We enjoyed sunset views from our rocking chairs on the front porch and from the top of Mt Dunbar. The cabin is equipped with luxury linens and towels, a large, flat-screen TV with cable, two gas fireplaces, a comfy living area, breakfast room and kitchen with all of the accessories you need to prepare meals. The bed is super comfortable. The cabin is absolutely immaculate! The owners have prepared a lovely atmosphere with their renovations to an early 1900's cobblestone constructed cabin and decorating talents. When our future travels take us to the Lawton area, this romantic rustic cabin will be our only choice for lodging.
Thank you so very much! Please stay again soon!
We loved being able to walk everywhere. The front porch is awesome - covered, with rocking chairs. Wind chimes are a nice touch. We sat on the porch quite a bit and felt the breeze, listened to the birds and the wind chimes. It was hard to come back to "reality." We rented the cabin as an alternative to a hotel. We didn't want to be surrounded by people, with people running up and down the halls and being noisy like they are at a hotel. We had never heard of Medicine Park (we were visiting Lawton). We really liked this little town and this cabin. Would not be a good fit for a handicapped person because of the stairs. There were plenty of linens, the cabin was clean, and there's not much more we could have asked for! I believe they do allow small pets. Great, easy communication with owner was much appreciated!
Nice getaway, Medicine Park has a unique charm. The cabin was very nice, especially enjoyed the fireplace by the hot tub. We wanted a quiet, romantic getaway without having to travel for hours, and this fit the bill
So glad you had a great time! Thank you for your great review! Please stay with us again soon!
Great mtn town in the middle of the Great Plains!!
We stayed 2 nights here and loved it! We are currently planning another trip. Medicine Park is a great quaint small town. At the edge of the Wichita Mountains, the way the town is laid out, it makes you feel like you are in a town in the foothills of the Rockies. The cottage is absolutely fabulous. It is perched on a hillside where you can see over the town. The sunsets are awesome from the front porch. We rode our bicycles from the cottage all the way through the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge and back for a 40 mile ride. The next morning we ran on the trails on the north side of town overlooking the lake. It is a great place to go for outdoor adventures and to see wildlife. We are from Tennessee but love vacationing in Oklahoma. There are so many people in this country who don't realize the beauty of this great state....from mountains to plains to rivers to deserts...it's all right here near Medicine Park. This cottage is a great base for your adventures. The pictures of the cottage don't do it justice! The owners are great to work with. Even though they don't live nearby, they are just a phone call or email away and will get back with you as soon as possible.
Thank you so much!
