Central! No need for a car to see the town.
Located just 3 blocks from the waterfront Malecon, 2 blocks from the local supermarket, 3 blocks from the Saturday Organic Farmer`s Market, 3 blocks from the main Plaza with the church, and nearly all of the best restaurants in La Paz are within a few blocks radius.
Built by an architect for his young family, this recently finished home is very comfortable.
Two king bedrooms each with private baths (one has a jacuzzi tub), large combo kitchen living room opens onto a terrace garden and custom designed swimming pool. It is a small house with the feel of a spacious luxury mansion.
Red cedar cabinetry, closets, and doors throughout the house gives a real warm cozy feeling and every room was designed to have natural cross ventilation. The famous afternoon Corumuel (south breeze) of La Paz cools the house every evening. And sleeping with the windows open is welcome as every window in the house has screening to keep out the unwanted flying guests.
La Paz is a wonderful authentic Mexican town.
I hope you enjoy our house and La Paz as much as we have.
My architect husband and I met as Dive Guides in La Paz in 2005. We married on the beach and lived here for many years.
Wanting to start a family, we stepped off the dive boats and built this house for ourselves. Our baby girl was born here in La Paz early 2012 and we lived happily in our dream home.
Now we are following another dream and are spending a few years in other parts of Mexico.
I hope you enjoy our house as much as we have.
Jessie Harper purchased this house in 2011
Location, Location, Location. We purchased this property because it is close to everything that makes La Paz great. From the house, we walk along the Malecon every night and go to get Ice Cream at our favorite local place.
Being a small property has many advantages. It made us pay especial attention to the design of the rooms and the garden so they feel large and spacious.
Confortable. Cross breezes though out. Rooftop is great, pool refreshing. Difficult sleeping at night was the only drawback of the house. We struggled to find restraints we liked. Bismark and The Shack we not that good. The tamales in front of the super market we outstanding. A taco stand a the end of Madero, Hermanos Gonzales was great. A mexican restaurant called Grillo just off the Malecon was good as well. Especially the mole. The Tail Hunter was just OK. La Fuente ice cream, great. If your looking into going to Espirito Island, you can't go wrong with Mar y Aventures. All equipment provided. Found it challenging to navigate the streets since there are very little signage. Nonetheless, you'll get the hang of it after a few days.
Thank you for a wonderful week!
The house was so enjoyable.
We will miss the turquoise waters of La Paz!
The property is close to great restaurants and to town. It's apparent the owners put some love into building their home. The woodwork, kitchen, and dipping pool were special. La Paz was the perfect getaway for us. We loved the rustic charming town. It's not too touristy but has everything one needs to have a perfect vacation. Location was great. We wanted to stay in the city center because we didn't have a car. So, as others have said, you get the city sounds. But, for us it was worth it to be close to great restaurants. When we had a small problem with the house, the owners responded quickly to fix the problem. Thank you for the wonderful vacation home.
The house is exactly as described and shown in the photos. The location is excellent particularly if you don't rent a car since everything is within walking distance. When we inquired about a grill (it is not listed in the description) the owners purchased one for the house, which was very nice of them to do so. It was very convenient to have the key to the house in a master box when we arrived. My only suggestion will be to put a sofa bed in the living room this way the house could accommodate more than 4 people. The view from upstairs is very pretty. I will definitely stay here again in my next visit to La Paz.
We were very pleased with the location; just blocks from the malecon and shopping/services/restaurants. The rooftop was a great place to view the neighborhood and vistas. We didn't use the pool, but it was clean and attractive. There was a large cardboard box for a BBQ left on the patio which we moved out of sight. The home has a lot of interesting design elements, but the ventilation system of wooden lath windows allows all the outside street noise in. It was like having open windows. Though the toilets were spotless, we couldn't use the shower next to our chosen bedroom as the tub was very dirty and looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in months. The other shower door was clean, but the shower itself needed a good cleaning. The fan over our bed was so dusty on the visible side of the blades that when we turned it on it spattered small globs of dark dust over the bedcover. The dish drainer in the kitchen needed a good cleaning; dusty, water spotted, pancake batter. We never met the manager. When we called her and left a message there was no call back. When we called again for instructions prior to leaving we talked to her husband who asked why we were calling the manager and not the owner. When I explained the instructions were to call the manager he said to talk to him as his English was better. The instructions that were nicely set up on the kitchen table could use some updating regarding keys, leaving, etc. Overall we would give this home a 2.5, but gave 3 stars rather than 2.
We had a great time at Jessie's house. It was clean as a whistle and very comfortable. Thanks so much for a great stay!
Four of us enjoyed Casa Hormiga in February. The house was modern, clean, and comfortable. We were able to walk to the Malecon and the beach as well as the city center and many wonderful restaurants. Parking at the house, though on street, was never a problem. Yes, there was some street noise, but we quickly grew accustomed to it and accepted it as part of the La Paz experience (the street is not really very busy). As mentioned in a previous review, the solar hot water was most reliable in the afternoons and evenings ( showers were coolish in the mornings). McFisher, down the street, was a highlight (twice!) and Nim, around the block, provided an elegant dining experience (also twice...). We enjoyed several trips to the nearest Chedraui grocery store (amazing selection of quality food). La Paz captured our hearts. We absolutely love the city and its people. We hope to return soon to enjoy this beautiful home and welcoming city. This was the Mexico we hoped to experience.
