Newcastle is noted for the friendly welcome of its residents, its unique setting at the foot of Slieve Donard and on the Irish Sea, the stunning scenery and the historic homes and castles within easy driving range.

This home provides a relaxed and safe base for your family as you explore this area of outstanding beauty.

The house has 3 double bedrooms, sleeps up to 6 people and has private off street parking. There is also a Living Room, Sun Room, Dining Room and Eat-In Kitchen.

The location is ideal for visiting local attractions, dining out and a variety of outdoor activities.

There are stunning views of Slieve Donard from the living room and sun room. Fully renovated and upgraded in the spring of 2013.

The house is a 7 minute walk from the Newcastle Beach and Promenade which have stunning views of the Irish Sea and Slieve Donard mountain.

It is an ideal launching pad for playing the famous Royal County Down golf course, venue for the 2015 Irish Open, as it is only a 10 minute walk.

Some of our travelers have also come to climb Slieve Donard. You can start your trek up the mountain right from the house.

About Peter Brannigan

This home is owned by a brother and sister that grew up in the South Down area and we have extensive family in and around the town of Newcastle.

Peter Brannigan purchased this bungalow in 1997

Why Peter Brannigan chose County Down

Our family are from the Newcastle area and this has been our family home since the 1990's. We grew up in Downpatrick, a historic town 14 miles from Newcastle. One of us lives locally and the other lives in the USA, visiting and staying in this home as often as is possible.

What makes this bungalow unique

This home is ideally situated for relaxed exploration, golf enthusiasts (Royal County Down, Ardglass, Downpatirck and Kilkeel Golf Courses) and those wishing to enjoy the stunning scenery and amenities available in the South Down area. The location is perfect for people of all ages since the walk to the center of town is totally flat and takes about 7 minutes.

It is also ideal for those with or without cars given the extensive bus system from the town and the wealth of amenities available within walking distance of the house.

Tollymore Forest park is about a mile away and is perfect for family picnics, hiking or relaxing with beautiful mountain views. Explore the Hermits Cave and the Stepping Stones across the river.

I would highly recommend this house, me and my friends stayed for a weekend break. As soon as I walked through the door the owner Joan welcomed me and showed me around the house. It was in brilliant condition, very cosy. Also she went through everything I needed to know. She also kindly left some refreshments. It was the lowest price I looked at and was definitely the best refurbished. It was brilliant to find that it was only a few minutes walk from Newcastle town and beach. I had an amazing time here and I will be back for sure. I would recommend this place for any breaks away or a family break. I had a ball.

Very spacious, bright and a short walk to town

This is a very spacious house and could easily accommodate a family or at least four adults. It is bright, sunny and warm. There is off street parking for at least two cars and is an easy, flat walk into town in less than ten minutes. It is also surrounded by the glorious natural beauty of the area. We enjoyed our stay immensely.

Excellent holiday home.

A very comfortable house for our 3 generations on vacation, the children enjoyed playing in the large enclosed garden while the adults could relax on the patio, in the living room or bonus sun room with great views of the mountains.

Joan & Peter are very accommodating hosts who left a much appreciated welcome package of goodies & responded quickly to any issues that we had with the property.

The location in the beautiful Mourne Mts. with scenic drives & walking trails is also ideal for walking to the town for shopping, recreation or wining & dining!

Would definitely stay here again as would the other members of my family too. We all had a great vacation. Thank you!

Wonderful stay in the beautiful Newcastle

We had a wonderful week in Newcastle and I highly recommend this lovely little bungalow as a base for your stay. Myself, my husband, my two young children and my mother had a much needed break in July this year. Before I booked Peter was more than helpful about the suitability of the house and area to our needs. He, with Joan's help went to great lengths to source a travel we cot for us for our stay which was greatly appreciated. Upon arrival Joan met us warmly at the door and had very thoughtfully provided a few essential food items to get us started. Our kids devoured the yoghurts and we very much enjoyed our cuppa and fresh wheaten on arrival! The house catered for our every need and we were delighted to be walking distance of the shops, restaurants and promenade. It was also fantastic for our kids to have a private back yard to run around in when we just fancied a quiet glass of wine outside in the evening. One major highlight for me was the lovely power shower, essential after a day on the beech! Its the little things in life! This is a lovely little holiday home, I hope we can come back very very soon! Thank you very much to Peter and Joan for your hospitality.

Second Stay Even Better than the First

We had such a pleasant family stay last summer that this spring I brought three friends for a Northern Ireland/Scotland golf adventure. We kicked off our trip with three rounds at Royal County Down. Peter and Joan's home made for a great launching pad and everyone in my party loved the accommodations. In order to fit us in (3 BR with 3 double beds), Peter and Joan brought a rollaway into the sun room. I slept there and can attest that the rollaway may have been my most comfortable bed of the trip. There is plenty of room for four golfers - just as there was for my family of five last year. Peter is quick to respond to any emails and Joan is the perfect host upon arrival. We appreciated Joan's thorough instructions on the home (heating, lighting, etc.) and the wee bits of groceries that started us off on the right foot. We walked down to the center of town for dinner and groceries and Royal County Down is but a 60 second drive away. We're already looking forward to our third stay!

Wonderful Newcastle Stay!

We had a great time spending 3 nights in Newcastle. The property is exactly as described and Peter and Joan are wonderful hosts. Joan spent a good deal of time showing us around and provided a nice welcome package of goodies. Our family of 5 had more than enough room and we loved that the cottage was walking distance to the center of town. We went on a number of strolls around Newcastle and it was nice not having to get into the car to go to the market or a restaurant. Royal County Down was spectacular and is just a few minutes away. Tolleymore Forest Park was a big hit with our children. And we thoroughly enjoyed walking along the beach promenade. We'd highly recommend the cottage and we can't wait to come back again in the future.
