About stacey nielsen and lawrie bowles

My husband Lawrie and I currently live next door to the Frog and Fern Cottage where we raise chickens and ducks and grow many of our vegetables.

We chose to move to Quadra island 11 years ago because of its natural beauty, outdoor opportunities and warm community spirit.

stacey nielsen and lawrie bowles purchased this cottage in 2007

Why stacey nielsen and lawrie bowles chose Vancouver Island

When we first moved next door to the cottage we imagined the fun of renovating it to a cosy vacation get away. It has a welcoming and cosy feel that seems perfect for families, couples or groups of friends building memories.

We enjoy filling it with our own family for special occasions.

The sound of the screen door slamming and the frogs chirping speak of holiday fun.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage has a heart. Our guests tell us they feel at home as soon as they open the front door.

The warmth of the logs, the skylights and the bright décor make inside cheerful even on rainy west coast days. The forest provides a peaceful retreat full of bird song and frog chatter.

Cute and cozy cabin

  • 3 of 5

The cottage had all that we needed. The owners were friendly people. It was a close distance to Rebbeca Spit. There was a cute sitting area outside by the bbq.

What a gem

  • 5 of 5

This adorable log cottage has everything you could want and is only a few mins walk to the Rebecca Spit. Perfect location and all the comforts! Host Lawrie was very kind and welcoming; we wish all our accommodations were like these! Thank you for the "somewhere to call home" while we were on Quadra Island, like a mini paradise. :) Thanks again.

A log cabin in the woods — with all home comforts

  • 5 of 5

Frog and Fern was the most peaceful and secluded of five places the four of us stayed at during our three-week holiday in BC, and Stacey and Lawrie were very friendly and welcoming hosts. It was lovely to meet them and make their acquaintance.

We had selected Frog and Fern because we wanted to end the trip in a log cabin in the woods and it was everything we hoped it would be with all the comforts of home. It was a lovely place for the family to get together at the end of each day after our explorations of Quadra Island.

A 15-minute walk took us to the enclosed and sheltered bay of Drew Harbour and the unique formation of Rebecca Spit with its views to the mainland mountains. The walk out to the point of the Spit has to be one of the most beautiful we've ever done. A half hour or so drive took us to Surge Narrows where we really felt we were in the wilderness of BC, and the views from Chinese Mountain were fabulous.

Perfect accomodation and location

  • 5 of 5

Quadra Island is a lovely destination – it has a laid back island feel but there are plenty of activities and lots of places to explore. We really appreciated the travel tips and suggestions from Stacey and Lawrie, particularly the swim and picnic at Village Bay Lake.

The cottage is ideally located – bike rentals, kayak rentals and the Grocery store are just down the road. Tennis courts are 5 minutes drive away. The cottage was so lovely, clean and very well equipped that we ended up BBQing and eating at the cottage more often that going put for dinner.

Highly recommended!

My husband and I stayed 4 nights and this was our first trip to Quadra Island. The cottage was very well set up for us and in a great location. It was clean, and decorated with so many nice little touches. We were so close to Heriot Bay, and Rebecca Spit Provincial Park. The owners were very friendly and helpful. I loved the bathroom and the beautiful claw tub. Our only small complaint was that no beach towels were provided, and that would be helpful to travelers coming by plane, where luggage and weight is restricted to bring their own. Besides that, it was a lovely cottage, well equipped and a great location. We definitely will be back!

Perfect accommodation on Quadra

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with our 4 month old baby and grandparents stayed at the cottage for 2 nights. We were on Quadra for a little family get together with the rest of the family at a nearby resort. The cabin worked out perfectly for our needs and was very economical for 4 adults compared to staying at a resort. Was clean and perfectly prepared with everything you need. In a beautiful area and so close to the beach! Beautiful landscaping and cute outdoor patio.
