Cozy, Relaxing, Spectacular Setting

  • 5 of 5

There is only one problem with this house: it's very difficult to leave! Our family takes several day and overnight trips to upper Bucks County every year and we've stayed in many nice houses, but this one is our favorite so far. The restoration of this old carriage house is immaculate, and preserves all of the building's original charm and detail while providing the maximum amount of modern comfort. The enormous, fully functional fireplace in the living room was the centerpiece of every night of our winter vacation here, and the owners generously provide all of the firewood that you could want. The kitchen is both roomy and cozy, with an island, plenty of workspace and a top-of-the-line range, and is well-stocked with professional cooking equipment. The two bedrooms and bathrooms on the second floor were likewise beautifully appointed and comfortable.

The setting of the house is also spectacular; it's nestled in the strip of land between the canal and the Delaware, providing a secluded, quiet environment with great views of the river. The back of the house has direct access to the canal tow path, so going for a run or bike ride couldn't be easier. The front of the property ends with a beautiful terrace that overlooks the Delaware, with Adirondack chairs and a stairway leading down to the water. Having coffee by the water each morning was a highlight of our stay.

The house is very clean and cozy and built for leisure and relaxation. It's a great place for adults and families with school-aged or older children, but probably not ideal for families with very young children. We can't wait to return!

Superior Accomodations

My wife and I stayed at the house recently and I can only echo the previous reviewer's comments. Every aspect of this house exceeded our expectations. It is a wonderful retreat, perfect for writers or nature lovers. It is also located perfectly to visit the many local Bucks County historical treasures. We rafted the Delaware several times, using the included passes for a local company that will bring you back to good old Bridge Five. The house is situated directly on the old Delaware Canal which gives you access to 60 miles of biking and hiking pleasure. The owners have gone to exceptional lengths to make their home an incredible experience and we enjoyed every minute we spent there. We've rented vacation homes in Europe, Canada and throughout the US and this one tops all the others.

Enchanted Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four, including two adult children, my spouse and I, and our two dogs enjoyed a relaxing and adventurous vacation. The cottage is beautifully appointed with top of the line finishes. There were no details left to chance and we arrived in the evening to find an illuminated treasure. Inside, there were chocolate mints in the candy dish, fresh flowers in the living room, and cords of firewood ready to light. The beds were comfy and adorned with fresh linens, and the bathrooms were stocked with plenty of fluffy towels. Every room is tastefully decorated with charming light fixtures, artwork, and unique furnishings. My favorite features were the rounded cottage doors, especially the front door, which is framed by a small blooming tree and is trellised to look as though it sprouted right out of the pages of a fairytale. By daylight, gardeners will find a small paradise of blooms, birds and butterflies outside of every window and door. We found adventures to explore each day. We made frequent use of the river which was accessible for tubing from the front yard. We also enjoyed many walks and bike rides on the jogging trail behind the property. We took a trip to visit Gettysburg and enjoyed a 2 hour horseback guided tour of the battlefields. We also took a day trip to Lancaster. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage with us!

There are many people from both New York City and Philadelphia who choose our area for their weekend retreats. As a result, there are many fine restaurants, art galleries, and antique shops that cater to sophisticated interests. Yet the area is casual and very friendly. And forget about the traffic jams so typical of rides to the New Jersey shore and the Hamptons! Even on a Friday evening or Monday morning, your ride back into the city will be less than 90 minutes.

We have kayaks, a canoe, fishing gear, river tubes, bicycles and all the trimmings you need for a riverside retreat.

We are located roughly 15 miles north of New Hope, PA and her New Jersey sister community, Lambertville. Both villages are artist communities rich in culture and live theatre. We are 6 miles south of Frenchtown, NJ where there is great shopping and wonderful places to dine. All along the river are very interesting Inns with vibrant restaurants with interesting food and drink.

The tow path that runs along the Delaware Canal is great for running, hiking and biking and the wildlife is stunning.
