About Paul Hellinga

Denise and I have been richly blessed to own this property and look forward to many years of sharing this amazing home with family, friends, and clients. For many years we have been boating with our family at Lake Mead, and now with 7 grandchildren, we found that Big Bear fits our vacation needs wonderfully, with all the amenities we want, close proximity to our home, and year round seasonal activities. We hope to glorify God for all he has blessed us with, through sharing this home with our family, friends, and others.

Paul Hellinga purchased this chalet in 2013

Why Paul Hellinga chose Big Bear

This property is the place we have often dreamed of, an exceptional and beautiful home, with amazing lake views, easy lake access with boat docks, level entry for easy access during wintry snow months, large bedrooms with plenty of room for kids. We hope this will be in our family now for generations to come, where our kids, and grand kids will make wonderful memories, celebrating all the seasons of the year, and seasons of life.

What makes this chalet unique

There is almost nothing that you can't do in Big Bear. From boating and water sports in the summer, to cozy retreats in the fall, snowball fights in the winter, not to mention skiing and all winter sports, to the smells and joys of spring time, this home has it all!

Guestbook comments from the owner

As owners of the property, we stayed for several days this past week ourselves. We just wanted to shout out a big THANK YOU! to all our guests this past summer. With one exception, everyone took great care with the property, treating this really special place as if it were their own. This is everything we hoped for when we ventured out to share "Lakeside Memories"! Here's to hoping we can accommodate our annual clients again next summer!

Thanks again!

The full Big Bear experience, right on the lake

  • 5 of 5

Owner was very easy to work with, and the process of checking in was seamless. The property is massive, and the house is a little weathered, but for the price, it's pretty awesome. Hot tub was absolutely amazing and very clean, and the beds were pretty comfortable. The lake was just high enough to get their dock afloat – and we were able to fish right from it. Would definitely stay here again.

Great place for your family

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend. The kids played in the back all day. However we left our sleds there:(. But we will definitely book this house again. So leaving the sleds for later and for others to use as well works for us:). Thank you for sharing your home:). The only bummer part was only having the weekend there.

Amazing House, Would Definitely Comeback!

  • 5 of 5

This place was probably one of the nicest houses that I have ever stayed in. There is plenty of space so you will never feel cramped any where inside the house. My group was so surprised when we actually stepped into the house and saw how big it was. All the features like the steam shower, outdoor hot tub, etc. are top notch and only add the the great experience. Large kitchen to prep and cook large family meals if you want to. Amazing views from the deck; try to catch a sunrise at least once because it is just breathtaking. Paul was great to rent from and was very helpful in notifying us with any updates that popped up. Would definitely comeback to this place!

Don't rent this house! not worth the money!

  • 1 of 5

Our stay in this house was far from pleasant. The house looks nothing like the photo. There is no water and no lake. The house was filthy and full of spiders, spider webs and wasps as well as wasp nests. The heater didn't work properly. The toilets were clogged. Unlike all of the other cabins we have stayed at for the last ten years, this owner was dishonest about the rules and his expectations. We followed the rules in full and he still kept a good deal of the deposit. We washed dishes and put them all away; vacuumed the entire house; mopped the floor; did the laundry for the towels; turned off all lights and locked all doors and it still wasn't enough. Owner charged us for an alleged clogged toilets that he never disclosed! There are many options of beautiful places to stay in Big Bear. We regret we chose this house and we will never again choose it. Find a different place to stay that is actually worth the money spent - this place is not it!

Owner's Response: It is very rare for our family to deduct anything from the security deposit, however the clients during this stay broken two lamp shades, one above the pool table, another in a bedroom. They left a toilet clogged and did not notify us that we need a plumber. Our house clean had to work an extra 8 hours to clean up their mess throughout the house. They were supposed to check out at 11 am, when I noticed the alarm was indicating people still there I called them and asked if they need to stay longer. They told me they were skiing and his brother was still there. At 4 pm they called and said their daughter was sick and couldn't leave until five pm. When I called them at five pm, they said they were just finishing a pizza and would be out by 5:30 pm. They left trash throughout the house, mud tracked throughout the house, food in the refrigerator. I could have deducted much more from their security deposit, but decided not to. I'm glad they won't be back, this is the kind of renter's I try to avoid.

Car: recommended

On this site Roy Rogers, famous cowboy, movie star, built a cabin for himself when he owned the Pleasure Point Marina. This house still has one of the original walls from that cabin built by Roy Rogers! Even more, the claw bathtub in the upstairs bathroom was the tub owned and used in that cabin built by Roy Rogers! Just a little history behind one of the finest lake front homes on Big Bear Lake...
