About Elaine

Owners, Tom and Elaine, are locals, having grown up east of Lake Washington. Elaine headed to the University of Washington and found she loved Seattle, and within a few years of marrying Tom, they decided to make NE Seattle their home. She studied architecture at the UW, and went on to start a residential design business. Tom was a home builder for many years, before he joined Elaine in design. We currently live just 5 minutes away, and are here at this house for work every day.

We're happy to answer questions.

Elaine purchased this apartment in 1989

Why Elaine chose Roosevelt

We had lived and worked in the Roosevelt District for several years when this Craftsman home on Ravenna Boulevard came up for sale. It had been 'upgraded' with aluminum siding, but we could see its beautiful lines, and bought it. We moved our office to the main floor and rented out the upper and basement apts. Years later, while prepping for house painting we discovered the original shingle siding was in terrific condition, so we stripped off 700 pounds of aluminum, and revealed the lovely original cedar siding. We spend part of almost every day at our office here in this house and in the Roosevelt District, and we never get tired of it!

What makes this apartment unique

Ravenna Boulevard is a beautiful street with a meridian of grass and trees, 24 blocks long, that runs from close to University Village and the east end of Ravenna Park, all the way to Green Lake. There are dedicated bike lanes, and people run, jog, walk, skate along this route all the time. It's a historic house in a wonderful location.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Seattle is a beautiful city, and if you have the chance to stay in a place as friendly as this one, you will have a perfect time. I stayed here for a little more than a week, and if I ever return to Seattle I will return to the Ravenna Guest House. The location is great and Elaine and Tom are excellent hosts.

The apt, had all your needs, linen, cookware, a desk. Plenty of space. Well kept. I will stay here again. The owner Elaine and her son Brian who stays on sight was available and provided clean linen immediately upon request. All the supplies needed to keep the apt clean for an extended stay.

My husband and I enjoyed staying here while we visited Seattle. It was perfect for our needs. The kitchen has lots of space and cabinets and a big deep sink. The bathroom shower was spacious as well. The washing machine and dryer were convenient and the bed was comfortable.

The location was close to everything and in a nice neighborhood. Had a strong WIFI signal which was nice. The owners were very helpful and friendly.

Car: not necessary

The Ravenna Suite at Ravenna Guest House is located in the heart of the Roosevelt District - an easy walk to University of Washington, Greenlake and Whole Foods. There are 6 bus lines close by, including Express bus service to downtown, and direct bus service to Husky Stadium. Car and bike rentals are available close by, too. Explore the Roosevelt District, with restaurants, pubs, interesting shops, parks and more, all within walking distance.

Join the locals and take a stroll on the 2.6 mile path around Greenlake, where you will also find special events, sport fields, and paddle boats for rent. And don't miss visiting the UW, one of the most beautiful campuses in the country.

Ravenna Park is just blocks away, but it feel like you have left the city behind. The trail through the wooded ravine is a favorite walk for locals.

South of the UW campus, across the Montlake Bridge, is the Washington Park Arboretum and the lovely and tranquil Japanese Garden.

Swimming beaches and boating opportunities abound on Lake Washington, Lake Union and Greenlake. Rent kayaks from the Northwest Outdoor Center on Lake Union and paddle by the Floating Home communities and urban shoreline, while enjoying the spectacular view back to downtown Seattle.

On the western boundary of Seattle is Puget Sound. Visit the Locks, Shilshole Marina and Golden Gardens Park along our saltwater shoreline - all just a few miles west of the Roosevelt District.

Hop on a bus to downtown and you will find the Seattle Center with the Space Needle at its heart, Pike Place Market, ferry terminal, shopping, theaters and restaurants, our professional sports stadiums, and nightlife.

Take a day trip to Mt Rainier, or plan a hike in the Snoqualmie National Forest area. Head out to the many lakes and rivers, experience white water rafting, or bike on our extensive bike trail system. In the summer and fall, the North Cascades Highway opens, and you might feel like you have landed in the Alps.

There is so much to see and do, and we're happy to make suggestions based on your interests.
