Perfect Quiet Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This house was wonderful. It was very clean and neat. The furniture and decorations were comfortable. I enjoyed a lovely bath and there were rockers on the porch. The window air conditioner worked well to cool the entire house. The kitchen was well stocked with kitchen tools and they left breakfast foods. It was a bit difficult to find the correct driveway from the road and the parking is a bit tight for more than one vehicle. Thank you!

Better than staying home, maybe.

This was a last-minute getaway, and I admit I'd had a hard time booking my first choices. The cottage is clean, and everything was as promised. It snowed on our one full day, and we did take a walk/hike in the snow, down the road and for a short distance on the nearby Appalachian Trail. In good weather, that would have been lots of fun, but I became worried with the winter conditions, so we only hiked for a little over an hour -- out of the whole weekend. There is nowhere to walk right around the little house, which is not what I'd call a "cabin." It's a small, fully-civilized house on a road next to other houses, and sharing a driveway with a garage that has been converted to another "cabin." So it didn't quite feel like the getaway we were seeking. Since it was winter, too, we could see lots of signs around the property that the owners were clearning the woods, presumably to create a view. In the winter, the piles of logs, brush, and make-shift roads for the tractor give the impression of disturbed land. I can see how it would be prettier in the summer. We were somewhat disappointed, I'm afraid.

Just perfect

  • 5 of 5

Our 4th visit to Rich & Christy's two cottages - we've stayed in each one twice now - and we'll certainly be back. The quiet wooded setting feels peaceful the minute we step out of our car, and Christy's many thoughtful touches in the cottage - breakfast food waiting in the fridge, blankets ready on the rocking chairs outside - immediately make us feel at home. The cottage is immaculately clean and well stocked with kitchen utensils, plates, etc. as well as a collection of board games and books, along with items you may have forgotten like shampoo and razors. Highly recommended as a couple's getaway if you like a wooded setting and would rather hear wind in the trees than traffic noise outside your bedroom.

PEACEFUL STAY

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the mountain cottage just outside of Waynesboro, PA. The cabin was clean and inviting. The owner was very nice and near by in case you needed anything. The cottage didn't have a television, but WIFI was available and there were lots of games to play. It was really great to be away from all the noise (the television included). The mountains were beautiful and a welcomed change of scenery. My only negative would be that the window air conditioner was kind of loud. However, the cabin had a wonderful porch on it and trees all around so it was much cooler with a nice breeze so you could turn the air conditioner off.
