Brad and Victoria have lived in Hawaii for more than 22 years, raising a family and each establishing their own businesses. Brad retired as a fighter pilot from the Hawaii Air National Guard and Victoria still is known as one of the best massage therapists in the area.
Victoria and Brad purchased this house in 2001
Brad and Victoria spent more than a year looking for their home. 'We wanted to be in Kailua and as close to the beach as possible and be able to walk and ride our bikes into town.'
Victoria, the visionary, decided she had found her place the moment we drove into the open driveway. Walking through the house and seeing the tall ceilings, open floor plan that lead onto the huge lanai with the peaceful garden, we could see family BBQ's and morning coffee out there. Brad ( being the great handyman) built Victoria her dream master bedroom with its own entrance, garden and sitting room. We have poured a lot of time, energy and love into this home and we are so happy to be able to share it with guests.
We loved our home away from home last week! We hadn't vacationed as a family in over 10 years and this house....became our home! Thank you to Brad and Victoria who were very gracious and accommodating. We had a couple of special requests which they agreed to help us with and our trip couldn't have been more perfect. A short walk to the beach. We could see mountains from the house and hear the ocean at the same time! We would book this house again in a heartbeat!
This is a great place to stay for any sort of visit to Hawaii. It is located in Kailua where you can get a real feel for living local.
20 minutes walk from the local town center where shopping is available to satisfy all.
We attended daily Yoga which is part of the lifestyle of the area while spending plenty of time on the local beach which is just five minutes walk just over the street, we enjoyed watching the sunrise there along with many locals.
All in all a great visit which was enhanced by great communication from the owners Brad & Victoria.
We are certain to visit again :)
We stayed for 9 days at Brad and Victoria's Kailua Hale. We couldn't have been happier with our decision! From the very beginning they were very helpful. Brad contacted me before we decided to rent from them to tell us all about the house and the location and it was that personal touch that did us in. Brad even had a gift basket waiting for my parents for their anniversary when we got there. There was someone to meet us at the house and showed us where everything was, which was nice. We also had a crib and booster seat waiting for us which was nice so that we had everything we needed right away. The kitchen was stocked with basics (coffee, sugar, olive oil, spices) and so were the bathrooms. We bought our own food to cook breakfasts and everything needed to cook was provided (the town is literally 5 minutes away). There were 7 of us so we did have to run the dishwasher quite a few times since we used all of the dishes and utensils with each meal. The house was extremely spacious, comfortable and CLEAN. My parents took the master bedroom which they said was fantastic. My husband and I took the queen bedroom which also fit the crib. My brother and our oldest son took the twin bed room. All of the rooms had fans however the queen bedroom was the warmest (the fan isn't very strong) but we just moved the floor fan to that room and it was fine. Bathrooms were spacious (it helped there were 2 in the house!). The washer and dryer were a bit old but worked fine (just make sure to shake out the sand from your clothes first!). The house also came with beach supplies which was awesome. We left 2 chairs camping chairs there since there needed to be more chairs, but it did come with toys for the kids, snorkeling gear and even suntan lotion. The walk to the beach COULDN'T HAVE MORE BEEN MORE CONVENIENT!!!! It takes less time to walk there than it takes for me to write this review...maybe 1-2 minutes walk? it's literally across the street. When we first walked over to the beach it was breathtaking. Prefect location, quiet, not many people at all and clean! I had no desire to even go to Waikiki Beach. It was amazing to just wake up in the morning, throw on a jacket, and walk to the beach to see the sunrise. Overall, it was everything we wanted and then some. Perfect place, perfect location (easy access to anywhere you need to go), perfect memories. If we ever get to go back to Oahu I would definitely want to stay here again!
Kailua is near the best beaches, so a house a block or so from Kalama Beach seemed ideal. We saw the Blue Angels buzz the beach practicing for the air show... pretty cool. Since I have young grandchildren, the proximity to Sherwoods Beach & Baby Makapu'u tidepools (15 & 20 min drives) was also great. There are lots of good dining options in Kailua and Honolulu is only a 30-40 min drive over the Pali if you feel the need for some fine dining. A huge Whole Foods and other supermarkets are a couple of minutes away... they offer local foods that you won't see in mainland stores.
A pile of beach towels, beach mats, umbrellas, boogie boards and some sand toys are provided. And a surfboard (we didn't use it). The only thing missing in that area was a cooler to take food and drinks to the beach.
The house was stocked with laundry soap, dishwasher soap, paper towels and toilet paper. Dishes / kitchen gear were sufficient for our needs since we weren't cooking much beyond breakfast (Portuguese sausage!)... I come to Hawaii for grindz I can't get on the mainland so we mostly ate out! Had to remember how to cook rice without a rice cooker, but that turned out good so no problems. The washer/dryer are a bit rusted but I know from experience that rust happens quickly near the beach in humid Hawaii... they worked great and that's what counts. Wifi was speedy after we reset the router. Parking for two cars!
With older appliances, it's not a luxury property but is less expensive considering its proximity to the beach and spacious floorplan. It is nicely decorated and very clean. Linens and towels are good quality. The master suite is quite big w/ a new bathroom and window a/c unit that was put to good use. The kids' bdrm (w/ twin beds) had a decent cross breeze even though the week we chose was exceptionally hot and wind-less. I recommend the owners consider a window unit for the 3rd queen bdrm as it has less cross ventilation due to the laundry being across the hall from it. We used the media room as an additional sleeping area as it was a bit cooler at night. There are ceiling fans everywhere that could have easily handled more normal Hawaii temps.
The best part of the house is the big covered lanai where we did most of our eating and hanging out. Happily, there were no mosquitos! We were careful to never leave food or dirty dishes out overnight, so we did not see any pests in the house.
All in all a great vacation with good memories.
After staying at Brad and Victoria’s vacation rental more than 3 months ago I neglected to write a review. I did call Brad when I checked out and told him how much I enjoyed the house and how everything was awesome. Brad contacted me a few days ago to tell me that someone had left a very negative review. He asked if I would be willing to leave a review based on my stay.
I read the negative review and I am in absolute disagreement with what was written. Brad and Victoria were awesome in providing us with advance information and answered all and more of the questions we had. The house was perfect. It was beautifully cleaned and well equipped. The media room surprisingly even had a large collection of videos for our use. There was an abundance of beach towels and house supplies. The kitchen was an original Hawaiian house design. It was clean, neat and equipped with more than everything needed. All the beds were extremely comfortable and the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. The short walk to the amazing beach was perfect. I don’t understand all the little complaints that were mentioned in the review. I found none of those. I would with complete confidence recommend staying with Victoria and Brad. You will have a vacation to remember!
We enjoyed our stay at your lovely home. The location was excellent--so convenient to the beach--and the house was very comfortable. I enjoyed the air conditioning while my husband was happy with the warmer/hotter rooms! We appreciated the beach towels and the two parking spaces.
