About Don Aiken
I am retired and live in Durham NC. I have a son that lives in Wilmington, they have two girls.I bought this house so I would have a place to stay when I came to visit.
Don Aiken purchased this House in 2012
Why Don Aiken chose Kure Beach
My Son and two granddaughters live in Wilmington. This gives me a place to stay when I come to visit. Also, because it is at the beach and close to the water I am able to rent it out to help with expenses.
What makes this House unique
You can cook out or sunbath in the back yard. also, you can relax in the porch swing in the front yard. There is a Air Hockey game in the loft.

We had a great weekend get away with friends . Easy walk to the beach . Quiet back yard to relax
Perfect for our needs
This is a comfortable, older home which suited us perfectly. There were a few minor problems, such as a worn couch and a few items needing repair, but the many ammenities, quiet and convenient location, and price more than made up for any minor inconveniences. We loved the outside shower (in fact, my 3 year old grandson insisted on using it daily), the air hockey game, the front yard swing, the excellent washer and dryer, the picnic table with umbrella, the beach chairs, and very nice kitchen. My husband and I slept on the enclosed porch bed. The divider curtains provided enough privacy, and the wooden blinds kept out most of the morning light. Our bed was comfortable. The air conditioner worked well, although it took a good while the first day to cool down the house from 84 to 74, so plan an afternoon at the beach while the house cools down.
Thanks for the review. The broken items have or are being repaired. The sofa deteriorated fast this month. Not sure what caused it to. It will be replaced before the next season. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks again
We went for 5 nights with 4 kids and 2 adults. We absolutely loved how close it was to the beach access (with 4 and 6 year old walking, was still under 5 minutes even when they were super tired). There was plenty of room in the house, everything we needed for the kitchen, a high chair (awesome!), an air hockey table that was fun, an outdoor shower (super handy!), items to take to the beach if needed, and outdoor grill & picnic table, wonderful washer & dryer, and Direct TV & WiFi.
The upstairs loft room worked well for our teenager, but the toddler bed would not have been a good solution there for our 2 year old. She would have played with the air conditioning unit. This area was VERY hot and stuffy even with the AC, so one would want to keep that in mind in the dead of summer.
Additionally, the bedroom with bunk beds was neat as far as location and space for our boys (4 & 6) but was also extremely stuffy. The fan provided didn't really give off much air, so we bought another to add to the air flow (which we then brought home b/c we needed anyway). I do wish that sheets and towels were provided rather than needing to bring our own or using a service.
Mr. Aiken was a dream to work with. He's always quick to respond.
Quick note to parents of littles: the dining table is on top of carpet. We used the vacuum regularly to keep the crumbs at bay and were extremely mindful and careful with any spillable items, but it was a constant fear that the floor would be messed up. The couch also had some tears on it, and we were constantly having to tell our kids not to pick.
All in all, for a family without really small children (or small children who do well without messing with too much stuff), this house is great!
Great location. Great value.
The proximity of the beach was remarkable. The new washer/dryer combo helped. Only thing I could recommend is newer furniture, possibly another tv, & a locking bedroom door. Watch your head with the stairs. You'll see. But at half the cost of the area, it can't be beat. If we venture down that way again, I'd definitely consider Don's place. Don't bother packing chairs/boards it's all there for you. Overall a great value. Great time. Thanks for ther opportunity.
Thanks for the review. I never had a need to lock the bedroom door, but I am installing new lockable locks on both bedroom doors. Also, the sofa will be replaced before the next season. Thanks for the suggestions.
Good location (and price) for families with younger kids!
Great location and short walk to the beach! Sleeps 7, practically speaking, since the toddler bed should not count. Beds were comfortable. Nice washer and dryer. Porch queen bed is separated from living room area by a curtain, so not very private, but worked well enough for my grown kids. Attic room with the twin bed cooled down well with the provided AC unit. No lamp or bedside table in that room, though, which would be handy I think.
The house was very neat and clean, and Don text several times to ensure we were enjoying our stay.
We enjoyed our stay at Don's place in Kure Beach North Carolina. The weather was great and we went to the aquarium rode the ferry at Fort Fisher and enjoyed the ocean during our memorial weekend stay. We would absolutely go back !
Thanks for the great review. I try hard to ensure my guess have a great time and that everything goes smoothly at the house. Any problems I will address as soon as possible.
Disc Golf. Must eat at Britts Donuts at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. Amusement Park at Carolina Beach, just a short ride from Kure Beach. Live music.
