Not Clean, lots of animal hair, not good for small children, hot tub fee
We visited during ski season.
Positives: Nice kitchen, heated tile floors, shuttle to village, owner responsive.
Master comforter was filthy, crusty stains on both sides, tons of dog hair. We had to sleep with the thin sheet because there was no way we would touch that comforter.
Animal hair everywhere. We have stayed in many pet friendly vrbo’s, and this was by far the worst in terms of animal hair. My daughters bottle fell off the bed side table, and when I picked it up, it was covered in animal hair. The couches, blankets, even toaster had animal hair on it.
There should be a note in the listing that the stairs are very steep and dangerous for young children, and parents should bring a child safety gate, or the owner should provide one if they are advertising to families.
The towels are budget motel quality. Thin, small, scratchy and stained, and in some cases ripped.
There were huge thick spider webs on all the walls, in particular the master bedroom, where a vacuum could easily reach and remove.
The floors and rugs seemed dirty.
The cable only works sometimes upstairs. It’s glitchy and takes a long time to connect.
Listing states there is a hot tub, which was a big plus for us, then we found out you have to pay to use it.
There is no easy walking path to get to the village in the snow, your only option is to walk up the main busy street or walk through the snow up hill. Don’t count on carrying your gear up hill to the village, the shuttle is a must.
I emailed pictures of the comforter and spider webs to the owner. While he promptly responded, I was hoping for some type of reimbursement for the hefty cleaning fee. The condo rules are that renters start the laundry, strip the beds, start the dishwasher and drive the trash all the way down the road to the dumpster. With this being done, I’m wondering why the condo can’t be cleaned appropriately. Crawling into a filthy bed at night is not comfortable. Paying a hefty cleaning fee and entering a dirty home is inappropriate and unfair to the renter. Some of the cleaning fee should have been reimbursed.
Hi Kimberly, we appreciate your feedback and apologize that you happen to stay after the housekeepers hadn't done such a great job. They of course typically do, and perhaps it had something to do with the fact that it's the busiest time of the year and also a back to back stay that day. We must say we're surprised that the 3 minor issues we discussed during your stay would justify a 2 STAR review? We have informed our housekeeping crew to keep a closer eye on comforters, pet hair, and cobwebs... these are difficult to see and unfortunately got overlooked, but in reality was merely a small stain or two, 2 old small/thin cobwebs, and a few pet hairs found throughout a pet friendly home. I'm not justifying it by an means, but just bringing it back down to the degree at which it should be mentioned. We did not issue a refund since the home was 97% clean, and the few things were minor enough that they were even missed during an arrival inspection unfortunately. Everything else you mention really shouldn't have been as it's quite unfair because asking to strip beds, run the dishwasher, and start a load of laundry to help housekeeping is a norm. Also, the TV works fine, the stairs are completely standard, the hot tub is described in the listing as being at the Rec Center which is a $3 fee, and the home is literally among the closet to the village within all of Northstar... The shuttle stops 20 ft from our door, or it's a 3-5 few minute walk to the village. It's actually one of the great benefits to staying in our condo! Thanks for being so understanding and we would love the opportunity to change your mind about everything by hosting again in the future.
Awesome place!! Can't wait to go back!!!
Great place! Clean, spacious..loved the heated floors and steam shower!! Great location- quick walk to the Village! Enjoyed our stay and can't wait for our next trip!
Great location, condo itself needs work.
My family of 4 + 2 dogs stayed for the weekend.
The good: Amazing location, access to free parking (opposed to $40 premium parking) in the village and the rec center with hot tub, gym and arcade! Location is not ski in/ski out, but walkable to village. Kitchen was well equipped and washer/dryer were new. Tons of extra blankets and pillows.
The less good: the temperature in the condo was variable and when the thermostat was set to 63° upstairs (brrrrr) it was about 80° in the bedrooms downstairs. Also, the code lock for the front door was broken and the key to open the ski storage was missing from the lock box. We could watch a DVD but the cable wasn’t working.
The bad: the safety rail on the top bunk bed was broken. The master bathroom sink doesn’t drain well. The blankets, though plentiful, were not great quality. The shower drain was loose and both downstairs bathroom had glue marks on the side of the shower (maybe from an organizer no longer present). No orienting map was provided with location of rec center, info about parking or shuttle service. The condo was also missing a “drop zone” for ski gear (maybe would t have been an issue if the storage closet unlocked).
Thanks for the feedback Elizabeth, and I wanted to clear a few things up here... first off, Tahoe Alpenglow Properties is available on call for troubleshooting as we explained before your arrival, and we would have been happy to show you how to use the automated August lock on the front door, access the cable on the television which does in fact work, and explain that the storage closets on the exterior of the home are Owner Closets. Our Guest binder does in fact provide info and number for shuttles but not for the NPOA Rec Center so we will add this info immediately to assist future guests. The marks in the shower were from an old soap dispenser that the Northstar association had put in place, and we attempted to remove. Unfortunately I cannot explain why it was so hot downstairs and cold upstairs as there are vents throughout the home and heat heat typically rises... perhaps the floor heating on the bottom floor was also up high? This is the first we have heard this. We are sorry to hear everything was not up to your standards, will address these concerns immediately, and remind everyone that this home is actually one of the most modern and recently remodeled condos in the entire association! Thanks again and we hope to better serve you in the future!
Home Base for Fun!
Aspen Grove was perfectly located for our Tahoe adventure!
Plenty of room in the kitchen, bedrooms and living room allowing for family fun.
If you love to cook while on vacation - this is the right kitchen, all the necessary cooking essentials and supplies were on hand.
Large flat screen TV and plenty of couch room for after hours movies from a long day adventuring.
Patio views were into a small grove of trees providing a relaxed illusion of isolation from neighbors. Parking is right next to the staircase providing a short distance to the front door.
Towels, pillows, blankets, storage - all the room to store your vacation items over an extended stay.
Club house amenities for small kids is amazing (big kids too) - video games, pool table, ping pong, pool, BBQ areas, tennis and pickle ball - a short 5 minute walk away - as well as the guest passes allowing access.
Hiking trails out the front door (great trail runs) - bring your trail bike - or your dog and enjoy miles of trails.
Chalet was nice and comfortable
The chalet was nice and convenient. The beds were comfortable and the furnishings were nice. We didn't spend much time at the place because we were out and about the entire weekend. My only comment negative is that I asked for late check out because we were playing in a softball tournament and needed to be at the field Sunday morning. Since no one else was checking in that day, it didn't seem like an outrageous request but I was told there would be a charge for checking out more than 1 hour late. I'm sure this is standard practice, but would've appreciated a little flexibility with regards to this. This didn't damper our stay, but did cause a bit of a scramble on Sunday.
This unit is beautifully remodeled with the exception of the bathrooms which are small and with only one tiny sink and they nfeel old and outdated. The issue we had is the owner (or manager) told us there is a King bed in the master - it was at best a double bed. This created completely uncomfortable sleeping arrangements for two adults desiring a King bed. Also, the second bedroom has bunk beds and while the bottom one is great, the top bunk is hard as a brick so one of our children had to sleep on the couch upstairs. We will NOT stay here again. Also, the hot water in the second bathroom was not working for our first 36 hours....the manager come over and discovered the handle was put on backward so what is typically hot is cold and vice versa. This is a cute unit but again the sleeping arrangements were terrible for our family and overall the bedrooms especially are much smaller than represented in the pictures online. Will not stay here again
We apologize for having misunderstood the bed was a Queen, not a King. When you said the hot water was not working, we showed up within 30 minutes to show you the part that shows to be cold, was actually hot. The shower has since been labeled, and listing has been updated to reflect a Queen bed in Master. Granting a full refund per your request because of this just wasn't reasonable given your stay was for 3 nights, but we did give you a free night because we made an honest mistake. Glad you enjoyed all other amenities.
Just a 4 minute walk to Northstar Village and Lifts, with inclusive guest passes to all Northstar amenities! Golf at the Northstar Golf Course, or any of the other 5 or so within 30 minutes. Truckee is 10 minutes away, and Kings Beach North Lake Tahoe is 10 minutes away.
