Traditional galleried villa restored and re-designed by Naomi Cleaver
Featured in the Times '50 Best Villas in the Caribbean' list, 15 November 2014
'The overall effect is a mash-up of Mad Men, Rudyard Kipling and James Bond. Features include a deep veranda, white cathedral ceilings, old metal fans, white muslin and a bathtub at the foot of the master bedroom's four-poster.' The Sunday Times.
'Cross Gone with the Wind with an early Bond film (think Dr No) and the resulting style will be something akin to that of Naomi Cleaver's gorgeous house on the Caribbean island of Nevis: ceiling fans, white muslin, lush colours and romantic verandas, plus leggy furniture, graphic fabrics and sleek mid-century minimalism.' Katherine Sorrell, Daily Telegraph magazine.
'Naomi Cleaver has kept it simple – white-painted wooden floors, cathedral ceilings and walls (except in the living room with grey/blue tones inspired by a cactus in the garden). And she brought over her Fifties’ furniture that was upholstered to match. The whole look’s a fantasy blend of Mad Men, Somerset Maugham and James Bond.' Cheryl Markosky, Primelocation.com
The Galleries has 5,500 feet of living space, with two air-conditioned double bedrooms – plus one fan-cooled double downstairs – three bathrooms, large living room, a galley kitchen upstairs and a vast chef's kitchen downstairs, studio and an air-conditioned media room with WiFi, Hi-Fi, books and 150 movies on DVD.
There is an acre of garden, with two outdoor eating areas. The garden features mahogany, banana, citrus, palm and mango trees and a variety of cactus, and bird life including herons, white egrets, warblers, banana quits, grass quits, finches and hummingbirds.
Plus a 70 foot swimming pool, with outdoor shower, and loungers.

About Naomi Cleaver
We have been visiting for over 20 years, and we've owned the villa there since 2005. We lived there for two years 2008-2010 while we managed a major refurbishment. Naomi wrote her book 'The Joy of Home' there (Conran Octopus 2010).
Naomi Cleaver purchased this Villa in 2005
Why Naomi Cleaver chose Cliftons
The villa is elegant and funky, mainly stone and wood with natural breeze and a wide wraparound veranda gallery. There is secluded 70 foot pool and large airy kitchen. Nevis itself is small and peaceful (there are no traffic lights!) but with plenty to do - hiking, cycling, sailing, golf and tennis - plus beautiful beaches and romantic plantation house restaurants.
What makes this Villa unique
Designed and refurbished by Naomi Cleaver, designer, author and TV presenter ('Other People's Houses', 'Britain's Best Home', 'Honey, I Ruined the House', 'Grand Designs Trade Secrets', etc.) www.naomicleaver.com

Good evening Naomi and Oliver
On behalf of my family and friends I could not possibly allow the moment to pass to take a few minutes out just to let you know about our vacation and stay at the amazing Galleries after returning home last week.
Where to start to start really, we were met at the Jetty on Nevis by the wonderful Amelia after a fun but brief crossing from St Kitts the BA flight with a slight delay though a mute point meant that we arrived in darkness and as we walked to our hire car a small trio played music. The darkness added to the event because that merely contributed to what awaited us in all its glory, with the outside stunningly lit the girls said they felt like movie stars, though quite tired we managed to enjoy a few refreshments from the fridge ( nice touch) whilst exploring The Galleries with Amelia and each of the family trying to decide on who slept where.
It’s hard to explain the sense of pleasure one experiences waking up on holiday, particularly when you are greeted by a clear blue sky, stunning scenery and the sea. Due to the time difference the girls could already be heard from the swimming pool, it was just 7am, one of the biggest plus points of the Galleries is the super swimming pool where we all spent many hours. Maybe the addition of a large BBQ might be a welcome addition?
We didn’t really want to leave the house, but we explored the Island beaches most mornings with afternoons by the pool and then followed your recommendations visiting truly some wonderful places to eat most evenings, too many to mention but Golden Rock stands out for us, but then so did at least five others ! The in-house booklet recommendations and comments were spot on.
The location was perfect for exploring, the house was made for fun with all its amenities for the perfect vacation but the influence of Naomi was everywhere to add that special touch of luxury, Sandra now wants a house with a Veranda if only to read and relive those Nevis sunsets and the girls are ready to book a revisit for next year.
Thankyou both for allowing us to enjoy The Galleries and of course Nevis, a lifetime of memories to savour. Fabulous.
Very best wishes
Roger and Sandra
The Galleries review
The Galleries was a wonderful place for my wife and I and our three kids (ages 17, 19, and 20) to stay for a week. The place was beautiful and there was plenty of room. Very clean. Well stocked. Oliver and Naomi arranged for all the little things that made our stay perfect.
Lovely island, lovely house
We stayed at the Galleries during Christmas week 2017. We were a family of four with children ages 3 and 6. Overall: The house is lovely and as advertised. It is secluded, but not far from activities. I think you must have a rental car on Nevis.
As promised (and included in the rental price as an amenity), we had a driver meet us just outside of airport arrivals and drive us to a water taxi. We were soon surfside at Oaulie Beach in Nevis. We were met there by the owner's assistant who escorted us to a waiting rental SUV. A quick drive to the house, a quick tour of the house, and then we were on our own. The assistant is friendly and checked in on us once or twice.
The house is spacious, with lots of areas to find a spot to read or reflect or just gaze at the sea. I would say the house is a designer house and not well suited -- at least initially -- for small children like ours. After placing some of the more delicate looking objects out of our kids' reach, we felt more comfortable.
The house is well stocked and there were some groceries pre-delivered. There was also a house bar with a bit of rum and whatnot. The wi-fi worked fine. We did not watch any TV, although there is a DVD library in the house. And older large house can be confusing. I spent the first 24 hours, figuring out light switches, door latches, etc. -- that sort of thing. The beds and bathrooms were comfortable and there were plenty of towels and cleaning supplies.
The house is well located for Oaulie Beach -- the best beach on the island for small children as the waves are gentle and there is a small hotel with a restaurant and toilets. I suppose you could walk from the house, but we drove because we had smaller children, floats, etc. We drove 5-10 minutes to Pinneys Beach often for lunch. We enjoyed driving around the island -- it's impossible to get too lost, although we did once.
Pool: was on the chilly side for me, but our kids enjoyed it. The website photos for the pool actually do not do it justice -- it is a clear, sparkling pool that enjoys loads of sunshine.
Monkeys? Yes, the monkeys visited our house. Once we had perhaps as many as 15 come right up to us. The flowers, trees, birds, etc., make the setting very lovely.
Kitchen: well stocked with bakeware, cutlery, spices. Use the fridge for ALL food and clean up after you eat -- otherwise ants invade. The local supermarket is well provisioned.
What a lovely week - we want to return!
Very beautiful, great gardens, amazing location and very close drive to the beach
Loved the home and location so much! The pool offered a wonderful swimming oasis on hot summer days.
Wonderful stay in an incredible property
We had the most amazing time in Oliver and Naomi's beautiful home, The Galleries. The house is incredibly stylish and comfortable, with beautiful bedrooms, two great kitchens and the most gorgeous luxurious pool.
The house is really well equipped with a well stocked kitchen, including barbecue and picnic equipment, and everything you would need for self catering purposes. All three bedrooms are very comfortable and luxurious. The upstairs sitting room is a great place to relax, beautifully designed and the veranda has the most glorious view of the sea and St Kitts in the background.
The house is surrounded by lush gardens, filled with beautiful birds and monkeys playing in the trees. We spent our days swimming, sunbathing and reading, and our evenings eating on the veranda by candlelight or watching movies in the media room. All in all the most relaxing and wonderful week in a fabulous environment!
We are a family of five, and had the most incredable stay at The Galleries!
The home is truly a work of art, but still has everything a working home would need.
The pool, the screened porches, the monkeys, nature and Nevis.... magnificent!
Nevis is old-fashioned Caribbean. Just five miles wide, it’s a relaxed island rounded by beaches and rising through rainforest to a 3,200 ft peak. “On the map Nevis is a pool of green champagne. Life here seems defined by the constant, although somewhat half-hearted, struggle to achieve maximum comfort for minimum effort.' Sunday Times, April 11, 2010. Nevis has plenty of places to visit, from old plantation inns (like Montpelier, where Nelson was married in 1787, and The Hermitage), to funky beach bars (Double Deuce, Sunshine’s) and romantic restaurants set high in the rainforest (Golden Rock, Bananas). There is tennis and an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Jr. championship golf course. Hiking, cycling and horse riding are easy to arrange, as well as scuba diving and kayaking. We can also organise fishing charters and day sails. We can also arrange car hire for your stay. But please note: there are no traffic lights on Nevis
