About margaret steiger

I left the heat in Florida to come to the Mountains to enjoy the beautiful cool air and magnificent views.

We are a few minutes from Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, which the kids absolutely love as I did when I was younger.

margaret steiger purchased this cabin in 2006

Why margaret steiger chose Blue Ridge Mountains

it is new, with fireplace in the living room, it has it all. I did not just buy this property, I thought it was so beautiful I decided to build a nice log cabin here. and so I did.

I have an entrance on the lower level, then I have built an addition onto the driveway which will take you strait to the main floor, with out walking up any stairs, which is nice, especially when you are carrying luggage and groceries.

What makes this cabin unique

I love the cool summers and Love to ski in the winter, it is the place to be in the fall when the leaves change colors, and the flowers in the spring are lovely. A great getaway for my wife and children and all of my grandchildren

A Wonderful Cabin In The Woods

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is in a great location, really well maintained, and beautiful.

Can't recommend this place enough. Exactly what we wanted for a great price!

Owner's Response: I did not meet guests, I can only say that they left the house in wonderful condition, I hope they return someday, perhaps in another season when the leaves are changing or maybe in the winter when the ski resort is open

Mixed review

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 9 celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary there recently, and we had a wonderful time. The house is spacious and had most of what we needed. The family loved the pool table, but didn't use the foosball much because the lamps wouldn't come on and it was dark. The worst thing was the 9th bed, a futon. It was terrible; it was lumpy, had a big hole in it, and a sharp spring poked my grandson who slept there.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry, I was not aware that the futon was damaged, I will have it replaced

A Lovely week in the Mountains!!

  • 4 of 5

Our family and friends got together at this lovely cabin on the mountain top to relax and eat and have fun.... and we did! The house is spacious and comfortable. The bathrooms and water are good. The fireplace was very welcome in the mornings. We all cozied up with coffee and stories... Thanks for the great time!

A quaint little getaway in the NC mountains

  • 4 of 5

We rented this property to celebrate Christmas as a family, including my wife, kids, and parents.

It turned out to be a great choice!

The cabin is more spacious than it appears on the website. The basement has an entire bedroom, 2 bathrooms, and games and TVs, so my parents were able to treat it as a separate apartment when necessary, and my kids had fun playing pool and foosball.

Upstairs, we found everything we needed. The kitchen was reasonably stocked, the fireplace worked well, and there were plenty of beds, couches, etc.

There are multiple washer/dryers for laundry, an abundance of bathrooms, etc.

We particularly liked the huge dining room table. We had several meals all together and also worked on several puzzles, crafts, etc.

There are literally TVs in every room, so no shortage of entertainment.

As for the view, I'm sure it would have been great if the weather had cooperated. It was cloudy and rainy for our entire stay, so we didn't see much of anything besides clouds. But we were certainly high enough to imagine some great skylines.

One of my favorite finds was a 2-mile single-track trail that connects to the Appalachian trail. This just about 1/2 mile from the cabin.

A few considerations for potential guests:

Location - The cabin is at the top of a 2-mile stretch of very steep, narrow road. It ends at a VERY steep driveway up to the cabin. Having now been, I wouldn't even consider driving to this cabin in winter time without a 4-wheel drive vehicle. And in icey or snow conditions, I still might not try it. Even with good traction, the constant climbing pushed our poor loaded-down mini-van to the limit.

Also, the closest grocery store is almost 30 minutes away. So consider buying groceries on the way, or plan enough time after arrival.

Internet - The wifi was easy to connect to and worked well enough, but it was pretty slow and spotty compared to what most of us are used to. I wouldn't be able to work remotely from this location, for example.

Don't come for the pool table - It was fun for the kids, but needs to be resurfaced, balanced, and all the queues need to be repaired.

Directions - The owners provided specific directions for the last couple miles of the drive. We chose to rely on our GPS, which was a mistake. It took us on a very roundabout path through a lot of mud. Follow the directions provided :)

Overall, this property wasn't perfect but exceeded my expectations.
