As soon as you walk in, you can immediately sense the character and charm this home offers. The intriguing back yard takes these same feelings to a whole other plane. Each of the multiple tiered levels has something to grab your attention. Whether you want to spend time discovering the variety of plants and trees or just take a load off and relax in any of the many sitting areas and nooks, it’s there to enjoy. Part of the inside space was just remodeled including a complete bathroom makeover. The cozy kitchen is equipped with all the necessities to prepare your favorite meals and the office offers space to catch up on work and/or accommodate extra guests.

About Steve Hogan

I am an avid traveler and explorer. I enjoy doing a variety of outdoor activities most of which are readily available within a short distance right here on the central coast. While I’ve spent the past several years getting to know the area, I’ve only scratched the surface and look forward to many more years of further exploring this wonderful location.

Why Steve Hogan chose Central Coast

After an extensive search inside and outside the U.S. for the perfect 'get-a-way spot', California's central coast eventually hit the radar screen. Then, I spent four winters RV camping in the area. During this time I explored just about every neighborhood between Nipomo and Paso Robles. Eventually, San Luis Obispo hit all of the criteria points. The next task was to hone in on exactly which neighborhood offers the best fit. I wanted to be just off the beaten path to avoid too much downtown hoopla, yet still be able to easily walk to all of the amenities. As it turns out, the Jennifer street walking bridge offers a perfect buffer that establishes the edge of downtown on one side and a quiet neighborhood setting on the other. Once the historic railroad district was in my sights, it was a matter of waiting for the right home to hit the market.

Then, one day during one of many neighborhood searching tours, a for sale sign appeared on the perfect house, the perfect lot and in the perfect location. The rest, as they say, is history. Along with having a great property, I'm also excited to be able to easily hop on a train and go north or south to literally get anywhere else I want to go without the hassle of driving.

What makes this house unique

Once you get to see the inside and outside of this house, there's more to grab your attention nearby. For starters, the property backs up to Terrace Hill open space. From the back of the lot, you make a left which leads you to a hiking trail. While it's a little bit of a steep climb to get to the top (approx 5 min), you'll be nicely rewarded as you take in the birds eye view of the entire city and beyond. From this vantage point, the overall scenery reminds me of a life size railroad set that a hobbyist would replicate and build in a garage or basement. Additionally, if you trek up for a sunrise or sunset, the colors can be spectacular. Another nearby attraction is the easy access to the bike path which starts at the Jennifer Street Bridge. From here you can go for a stroll or ride along the path. Or, take a visit to Sinheimer park (approximately ¾ mile). At the park you’ll find tennis courts, a public swimming facility and even Frisbee golf. In the summer, you can also catch a Blues baseball game, the peanuts are great!

Perfect for Us

We very much enjoyed our stay in Steve's home. The location may seem a bit off the beaten path, but the house is actually very close to a walking bridge that drops down directly into a neighborhood I happen to love . . . includes Gus' Grocery and Sally Loo's. We are walkers, so I think we were across that bridge every morning to get coffee. From that spot, you are seconds away from historic downtown SLO. The VRBO page for this home includes a lot of pictures of the owner's very whimsical backyard, but my favorite outdoor spot may actually be the front porch. I do believe that is depicted as the "Peace and Tranquility" photo you see as the first shot of the property. The homeowner was kind and generous in allowing us to bring our young dog. I honestly cannot imagine how things could have worked out better for us in this situation. We are very thankful for his doggie hospitality. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Great option for Cal Poly parent visits!

The house is a quick walk to several restaurants, and the back yard is a fabulous place to sip coffee or wine and enjoy the SLO weather!

Great Stay

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The house is close to downtown SLO (about a 10 minute walk) but also is quiet and offers a nice place to get away, if need be. We would absolutely stay at Peace and Tranquility again.

Great getaway in SLO!

Steve was very accommodating as is it was a last-minute booking. Without him, we would not have made it to SLO this weekend considering we had two dogs with us!

The house is located in a nice, quiet neighborhood and it was cool to be near the train station. The back yard is unique and beautiful, multi-tiered with chairs and nice views from multiple vantage points. Plus, it backs up to a hillside where you can take a quick hike up and get panoramic views of SLO and the surrounding area (and maybe find some playmates for your 4-legged friends if so equipped :)). If you do take dogs with you take note that they should always be supervised as there are breaks in the fence and no back fence to the property.

The house itself is comfortable and well-appointed. We didn't make much use of the kitchen as it was a short stay but the house was nicely laid out and a great place to spend the night, wake up, and unwind. The pet-friendliness is much appreciated. :)

Beautiful Backyard!

We really enjoyed our stay at Steve's Vacation Home. It was bigger than what the pictures showed, very clean, close to downtown, and had a beautiful and huge backyard! We really enjoyed hanging out on the back patio, enjoying the Central Coast weather and drinking local wine from Baileyana. There is a trail at the top of the backyard which we didn't have time to explore, but would be a great option for active folks who want to go on a quick hike. I will definitely stay here again when I visit SLO.
