Unique house in a great location
We just spent 2 wonderful weeks in the Berkshires at the Brick Building. It is in a great location within 10 to 15 minutes of Stockbridge and Lenox and only 5 minutes to the Rockwell Museum and the Botanical Gardens. It was welcoming and well equipped with a unique combination of historic features and modern touches and a beautiful back patio on a creek. Loved the open concept first floor and loft like upstairs. Ben, who is close by, responded quickly to our questions.
Beautiful, artistic and lovingly restored piece of history
We loved this brick house, which reminded us of a SoHo loft inside. The artwork and wide plank floors are gorgeous, and the home spacious and comfortable. The owners are lovely and must be wonderful cooks - there are lots of cookbooks and specialty kitchen appliances. It was an easy drive to the Norman Rockwell Museum, wonderful restaurants, and Ski Butternut. Thank you for your graciousness and a wonderful family weekend!
Lovely home....great owners!!
My husband & I stayed in the brick house for July & August, 2015. It was very comfortable for a long term stay. The kitchen is amazing & state of the art-- very well stocked. I can't think of anything else one would need! Lots of spices & oils, vinegars, etc.
the house is well set up-- the 1st floor is very open with an open living area, kitchen & dining area, plus a more private bedroom, full bath & powder room. It's very livable especially since my husband can't really do stairs. The upstairs is huge with two separate sleeping spaces and another living area. Very private. State of the art washer & dryer upstairs. The owners have just recently put in a very beautiful and relaxing back yard with a big table plus relaxing chairs near the babbling brook. So relaxing!
The owners were lovely--very welcoming, readily accessible and accommodating. I would rent from them again in a New York minute!! The house is clean and very well cared for as well as very well equipped.
I don't have any negatives to report. Excellent location--about 10 minutes from Tanglewood and close to most other Berkshire locations. Don't miss the West Stockbridge farmers market on Thursday afternoons! House is great for couples or families or groups. I recommend it highly!!!
Although the building is old, the bathrooms, kitchens & electric is very modern, yet beautifully integrated. Bedding is new & lovely. Will stay there again if we come back to the area!!
We loved staying in this redone historic brick house for many reasons. The location was perfect, about three miles in one direction to Tanglewood, and the Rockwell Museum in the other. We were three couples, and it was large enough to accommodate all of us comfortably, the kitchen is awesome, well equipped, gourmet appliances, so we were able to enjoy eating at "home" sometimes. I'd recommend "Alta" restaurant in Lenox, and there's a great farmer's market on Fridays at Shakespeare and Company. We went to a play at the Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield, a nice theatre, and well done performance.
Great Berkshires Get-away Home
We spent President's Day weekend at this lovely home with the intention of doing a ski vacation. At the time, the Berkshires were in its beautiful winter glory. This home has great character and is very comfortable and although it is an older building, everything has been wonderfully restored and modernized; the house was very warm despite single digit temperatures during our stay. There is not a covered garage so be prepared to heat your car during the winter, but the parking is right next to the house.
Our family was very happy and comfortable during our stay. We have four children ranging from 3-9. We all slept in the upstairs bedrooms. Note that the second room upstairs is part of an open loft and is separated by curtains. This is fine for families staying with children or relatives. The stairs are a little steep so you need to watch your toddlers, or have some rules, going up and down the stairs. The kitchen is great; the bathrooms are new.
We found the house to be a great location. We went skiing at Butternut which was about 20 minutes away. We went to a convenience store about 10 minutes away and there were some bigger supermarkets and drug stores about 15 minutes away. Some of the reviews made the place sound kind of remote but we did not think that was the case.
The owner was very responsive and helpful throughout the process. The house was easy to access and very clear information and instructions were left for us regarding the home and the neighborhood. We would definitely consider staying here again.
Interesting and great location
My husband and I stayed here for four nights during a "bucket list" trip to Tanglewood. As a history major, I was intriuged by the prospect of staying in a place with history. Friends who came out from Boston also thought it was a neat locale. It turned out to be extremely convenient to Tanglewood and the Norman Rockwell Museum, the two things we most wanted to do. (In fact, it turns out to be on the "easier" (left turn) way out of the Tanglewood Parking Lot at the end of a concert.) The owners were very responsive to questions, etc. That said, I'll offer a couple of comments to manage expectations. The home was correctly described as not handicapped accessible. Because it is an older building, some doorways are narrow and the older floors are sloping. (My husband has Parkinson's Disease, and uses a walker, but we managed okay on the ground floor.) It is probably not a good choice for someone who wants a conventional place or layout. (The kitchen, however, is beautiful.) We enjoyed opening the downstairs bedroom window and listening to the babbling brook outside our window at night. However, it does not have a good outdoors area for sitting or entertaining, if that is important to you and your Berkshire experience. Still, the Stockbridge Town Beach is nearby, and I enjoyed some quiet time there. It is a very spacious place that would be great for an informal gathering of family or friends that don't need traditional spaces. There did not seem to be good grocery stores nearby, so you may want to shop en route to save yourself a trip when you first arrive. I appreciated that the owners provided some provisions, but would have shopped in Great Barrington en route if I had focused on this before my arrival. Enjoy!
