Overview

About the property

Centrally-located, newly renovated 3,300 sf beachfront home w/ spectacular views

A truly unique home on Vancouver Island where you are steps from the beach and a 10-minute walk to the restaurants, high-end grocery store, liquor store, shops, world famous street murals, renowned live theatre, galleries and several town parks. We aren't aware of many houses on Vancouver Island that are so centrally located on the waterfront. You'll be relaxed from the moment you step into the house with the sweeping ocean views and sound of the ocean.

The space:

We recently purchased this house and spent the past several months renovating the interior. The house has a large and bright open floor plan with kitchen, bar area and living room all in the conversational space. The house was specifically designed to take advantage of the incredible ocean views with large windows. Even on rainy days, it's amazing how bright the house is due to all of the windows.

The house was designed by the original owner to be a large floorplan with low density - hence 3 bedrooms for 3,300 sq ft house. The ideal maximum configuration for comfort is 3 couples and 4 children. We wouldn't recommend, or necessarily approve, 4 couples or more.

There are 3 outside decks, with private access to the beach from the deck. There are 3 cozy living room areas to relax indoors - two on the main level and 1 upstairs. For more detailed information, please check out our website by searching for "Chemainus Beach House" on your favorite search engine.

The house has a separate and dedicated in-law unit in basement where Jenny's Costa Rican mother often lives. She has lived in the Cowichan Valley for the past 30 years and can answer any questions you may have.

Nature abounds in the water in front of the house. There are seals and otters, as well as orcas that swim father out in the sound. There are thousands of sand dollars to see when the tide goes down. And if you make it out to the little island out front, there are several species of crabs and clams that live there. The ocean is very swimmable in the summer because of the shallow coast line that warms up the water when the tide goes out.

The beach house is an "end unit" where it adjoins a small town park, playground and beach. So, the views from the house are unobstructed for about 240 degrees. The living space faces the ocean with total privacy from the neighbors. The beach is only 38 steps down to the lower beach deck, and then about 5 steps on a removable ladder to the sand. In the summertime, the water is warm and calm. There is a tiny island you can either swim or walk to, depending on the tide.

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire main floor and upper floor of the 3-story house. When the weather is rainy, you can have access to the house through the lower level garage. The bottom unit is usually occupied by my mother, who can answer questions and make sure your stay is great.

About Jenny Reilly

We (Jenny and Bill) have 2 children (7 and 10 years) and live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Jenny grew up on a farm in nearby Duncan, BC, along with her 4 brothers and parents. We have recently bought this beautiful house as a place to come back to visit her family and provide a place for her mother spend time in the lower unit, which has an entirely separate private entrance. We love this house on the beach, as well as the small and very friendly community of Chemainus. We hope you will too!

Jenny Reilly purchased this house in 2017

Why Jenny Reilly chose Chemainus

I grew up in Duncan and remember visiting Chemainus with my family. We would walk the mural footprint path with a giant ice cream cones in hand.

Years later I brought my own family there for a visit and fell in love with it all over again. The people are warm and embracing, and are very proud of their town. The best way to describe Chemainus is "charming". From the Willow Street Cafe and the old-timey Little Bear Ice Cream Shop to the flowers decorating the street corners and houses and the famous street mural and live theatre, it is no wonder that Chemainus is a "must see" tourist destination on Vancouver Island.
