Great house with perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

The house & yard were clean & spacious! More than enough room for the adults to lounge around inside or out, while the little ones played! Nicely located within walking distance to the downtown. Perfectly located near many of the Black Hills attractions. Jim was a great host & everything was provided for! We would definitely go again!

Perfect home/location for our families of 6 adults, 3 small children and a dog!!

  • 5 of 5

From our first arrival until our departure, Jim and June were VERY attentive of all our needs. We needed a stroller and high chair, it was provided. The tire on my husband's bike tire was flat, a pump appeared to fix it. We ran out of ice, Jim brought some from his own home. They went above and beyond any homeowner we have ever experienced before. The home and backyard were perfect for our family. My daughter's family of 5 took the upstairs and it was ideal so they could put the children to bed at night and the rest of the family could talk/laugh/watch tv without waking them. The firepit, hot tub and backyard were also a hit for the whole gang, safe for kids and dogs alike, and a beautiful little oasis complete with rose bushes. The kitchen is fully stocked with cook ware to plates/glasses/knives. (maybe better than ours at home!) Plenty of room to chill waters for the hikes that our family took. The location within the Black Hills could not have been better for us as we wanted to see all the "hot spots" - Rushmore, Custer loop, Sylvan Lake, Bear Country, Needles Highway, etc. It's a little bit of a drive up to Spearfish, but well worth it and very doable. Took the scenic route there and fast loop home through Rapid City. Downtown Hill City is cute with several good "treat shops". We loved Turtle Town for the candy/ice cream and Mountain Treats for the bumbleberry pie! The handbag shop was a hit with our granddaughter. Also, if you like to bike, you are right off the George Mickelsen Trail which is 109 miles long - we wish we'd had more time to explore that. Overall, this home was ideal for us and we would highly recommend it to all. Oh, and lastly, TWO washers and dryers made it nice to not have a pile of laundry to come home to.

The best place we have stayed!!

  • 5 of 5

This house was first of all beautiful but also perfect for our big family! The location is downtown Hill City which was so nice to walk down to the shops. It felt like a little oasis because the large fenced yard was so private and so nice for the kids to run around and be safe!! Thank you Jim and June!! We are so so so appreciate!!

This home is GREAT and feels like home.

  • 5 of 5

The Main Stay has a welcoming feel that made us all feel right at home. Jim and June (the owners) also made our group feel supported and helped at any time we needed information. The hot tub, yard and well decorated interior added to the charm and comfort of the home. The location of this house was another gem. Walking to dinner at night or shops during the day was another bonus. Having the house close to the Mickelson Trail was very important to our group. Hill City is the heart of the hills and so is the Main Stay home. Thanks Jim and June.

Family of 10 Spring Break to Hill City South Dakota

  • 5 of 5

WOW! Our accomodations were amazing! This house had so much character and was ideal for our family of 10! This was an 8 day adventure. I cooked the majority of our food in our home. Jim had everything we needed and more and if I asked for something it was provided immediately. I asked for a high chair and we had 2, a playpen, stroller offered... We spent hours in the hot tub, making smores at the fire pit, playing card games around the chairs and outdoor table, and late night card games around the dinning room table. The entertainment room was perfect for the basketball family members with the big screen TV. And the fireplace was some amazing ambiance and very roasty toasty on some cooler evenings. I did not think we would need 2 washers and 2 dryers, but I used all of them! The location was perfect! We hiked Sunday Gulch on our first day in Custer State Park (sign on side of trail above frozen over waterfall where we ended Closed for the season) it was strenuous - beautiful - a must see. Needles Hwy was also closed - we will have to come back to see. Mt Rushmore was right there, the Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park. Crazy Horse was impressive. So many things to do. Hill City is adorable. Badlands are spectacular and the trails there with breathtaking views (1.5 hour drive from the house one way) Bear Country also was closed. We did have the best of everything. We were sitting outside in shorts one day and in the hot tub with snow later that evening. The Hills are so beautiful and I can't say enough amazing things about it. We saw Buffalo, wild goats, prarie dogs, prong horns, wild sheep, the sweet neighborhood dog Cher, deer everywhere, eagles,...Most amazing vacation ever. I would highly reccomend it! Jim was the Host with the most!! Thank you for a phenomenal vacation!

Beautiful stay

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, cozy house in a great location! The owners were very nice and accommodating. We had a wonderful family gathering and there was plenty of room. The backyard is wonderful and a huge plus that the house is pet friendly (and a block away from the Michelson trail!)
