I'm an artist raised and now living in Taunton, MA. We've vacationed in this neighborhood since 1938. I'm a Member of Cape Cod Artist Association and Falmouth Artists Guild. Both children attended Woods Hole Children's School of Science summers from ages 7 through 16.
Chris Shea purchased this cottage in 1967
We have rented this property to single family vacationers. Most of our renters have returned year after year for up to 30 years. The property is now available because our August renters recently bought their own cottage.
The primary benefit is location, location, location: the beaches, views, neighbors, simplicity, nostalgia, swimming, sailing, biking, walking, rocking, resting, and even the rhythm of the foghorn.
We stayed here last year and had a wonderful time. The location is unbelievable and it comes with a small private beach. It's rustic inside- but isn't that what a beach house is suppose to be. The owners art work is lovely and it was very comfortable. We loved sitting on the porch and watching the boats go by. The outdoor shower is great. I will return
We definitely felt like we were a part of "Old Cape Cod". The cottage was definitely authentic Cape Cod. Beautiful vintage wood paneling throughout. Comfortable sofas and chairs, TV with cable, and a library of VHS tapes and DVDs. Original artwork by the owner can be found throughout the cottage, giving it a real special, homey feel. The location was incredible! My favorite activity:Sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch with coffee in the morning, watching the beautiful sunrise. What a way to start a day! The private beach was a 30 second walk away! Most days we were the only ones on the beach. The beach is pretty rocky, so you might want to bring your water shoes. Once you get 12 inches into the water though, it's just sand. And the water is so warm and calm, you won't mind walking over a few rocks to get into it! We didn't spend much time in the cabin, didn't even cook one meal! I'm on vacation after all. But, I did notice that the kitchen was well stocked, the appliances appeared pretty new.
My only complaint is that there should have been more fans in the cottage. The week we were there was rather humid, and being a woman of a certain age, I need things very cool when I sleep. Though there were great breezes in the living room area, the bedrooms were pretty warm. When I wasn't rocking on the porch, or swimming in the sound, you could find me in the outdoor shower. The BEST outdoor shower!! We didn't use the indoor shower at all the whole week!
There's so much to do in the area. We might have to come for 2 weeks next year. We went to The Commodores baseball game on Monday night. We took the ferry to Martha's Vineyard, hiked in "The Nob", took morning walks along the beach , ate on the outdoor deck at The Casino Wharf, breakfasts at the Country Fare in town....on and on. We loved our little cottage!
