About Ken Hogan
Ken and Ardith are semiretired professionals, he a pharmacist, and she a human resource professional. We fell in love with a classic cabin in East Verde Estates built in the center of the first 2 lots sold in the subdivision formerly used by the Tonto Apache Indian Tribe as their summer recreational and hunting area. Arrowheads and other artifacts are often found in the yard after being exposed by a heavy rain. The little red cabin was built in 1954 and passed down through the generations and was eventually owned by the large extended family. Sadly, it was seldom used and fell into disrepair. In 2012, the family agreed to sell the property and we were lucky enough to purchase it. One year later, with lots of money, blood, sweat, tears, this small jewel of a home sits completely modernized on 2 of the most private and desirable lots in the community, beckoning guests to enter and enjoy this historic area's splendor and serenity.

Why Ken Hogan chose Payson
Visiting East Verde Estates, bisected by the East Verde River, for the first time is best described as love at first sight. Between the friendly neighbors, daily wildlife encounters, majestic granite and sandstone cliff formations, grandad sycamore and cottonwood trees, crystal clear night skies, and cool mountain breezes, you may never want to leave.
What makes this Cabin unique
Relax in the hanging hammock chairs while watching the occasional river otters, the resident great blue heron, ducks, deer, elk and bald eagles or just listen to the breeze rustling through the trees. On cool crisp evening nights, enjoy sitting in front of the gas fireplace while reading a book or watching your favorite movie, all while knowing that shopping, restaurants and lively entertainment are only 5 miles away.

Wonderful property and hosts
Beautiful quiet location close to lots of wonderful attractions with knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and generous hosts.
Beautiful setting, clean and quiet!
Had a wonderful 2 month stay! The screened porch overlooking the river was our favorite place to relax. We saw elk and javelina, and lots of beautiful birds. The owners, Ken and Ardith, are wonderful and quickly became good friends. Best vacation rental ever!
We had so much fun hosting you for two months. You were always finding and reporting on new and interesting places to hike or explore in our area. You have inspired us to get out and explore more. We hope you have a safe trip home and we are looking forward to seeing you next year.
I had a very nice time, Ardith took me hiking with the Pine hikers, Ken took me to old Indian sight in his jeep. Also revisited the Apache Trail along with other activities
It was a pleasure having you as a neighbor and friend. There are lots of things to do around here and you seemed to do many of them. We are really glad that you had such a good time.
My wife & I opted for a quiet escape with our 2 Yorkies and hit the jackpot!
First, the cute 2 bedroom cabin. This is a 1950's cabin that the owner's completely remodeled a couple of years ago, saving the original wood floors. There is a picture book on the fireplace showing the transformation. It has everything you could need, just bring your food. We cooked on the grill one day, but checked out local places in Pine & Payson most of the time.
The location is just 5 min. from Payson right on the East Verde River. You can walk along the river in both directions. The dogs loved it. The Elk, finally saw them on our last night, walked right along the fence and were sometimes in the yard. You can here the river running as you sit on the enclosed porch or out in the large yard. You have neighbors, but this is a very nice, quiet neighborhood, nestled into a canyon. If you bring your furry friends, they will get some small burrs in their feet depending on the time of year. No big deal, but be prepared.
The owner, Ken, is super nice and can recommend places to go, etc. We searched thru a lot of listings before deciding and were very happy with our choice.
Lots of things to do here, or...nothing if you prefer. Personally, I like to get out into nature then sit on the porch with a beverage, listen to the river and watch the wildlife. We're glad you enjoyed yourselves and hope to see you again soon. Happy Anniversary!
Tranquil cabin, great owners, close to everything!
We spent the month of June at the East Verde Riverfront cabin. From the initial inquiry until the day we left, Ken and Ardith were totally accommodating! The cabin was comfortable and had everything we could possibly need during our stay. The kitchen was great and easy to work in. Having 2 full baths and an extra bedroom allowed us to spread out a bit, especially when we had visitors.
The screened-in porch was a delight. We read, dined and just hung out there. Our cat loved sitting in the windows watching everything outside.
We thoroughly enjoyed all that Rim country and Payson have to offer... But most of all spending time at the cabin and with our hosts! We very much look forward to our next visit.
You really seemed to pack a lot into your month. We're glad you took some time to relax. You also turned us into bike racing fans. Someday, we will attend the Tour De France. It's nice to see people enjoying the cabin and this area as much as we do. Thank you for the great review! Hope to see you again.
The cabin was great, and the surroundings were even greater. Its located right on the riverfront with beautiful scenery and fishing. The cabin was fully equiped with everything we needed. Ken, the owner, is super friendly and helpful. On the day we arrived he was out of town, but he made sure his cleaning lady stopped by to make sure we settled in and had everything. Overall, we really loved his place and enjoyed our stay.
