Not a clean property
Microwave, refrigerator, and coffee pot all had crusted on food that needed scrubbing with a sponge before we could use. There was no clean sponge, so we had to buy some. Silverware and several plates were the same. Spare blankets were stained and had hair on them. Whole place needed a good dusting. Beds were reasonably comfortable. Sheets were clean. No information on using heat which was an issue during our stay. Definitely not what we were hoping for from a basic rental.
We are very sorry that the guest did not feel our apartment was clean. We always try to maintain it in a clean, welcoming condition. We hope that any guest who has a problem will notify us immediately and give us and opportunity to correct the problem and make their stay more enjoyable. Our Caretaker/
Housekeeper, Deb, has very high standards and would try to correct a problem promptly. Guests always have her contact information, as well as mine. Deb typically contacts guests during their stay to make sure they are happy, as she did with this guest. An issue like the operation of the heat could easily have been dealt with on the phone. We wish the guest had reached out and let us correct the problems.
Nice location, not charming
The apartment was in a nice location and pretty easy to get to. I felt it was not so charming as everything in the living, and dining rooms was rather brown, not too cheerful. There was plenty of room for a family if needed and the kitchen has a nice stove and big refrigerator. The screened porch is nice and it is very quiet there. I was very disappointed in the locks on the apt. They are rather flimsy and look like easily picked. I felt uneasy sleeping. The fixtures were clean but the floors were not. Chris
This is a lovely period house, very well equipped, in a quiet residential street. Cambridge and the surrounding area has a lot to offer for nature lovers and history, the home of the Harriet Tubman museum. There are good restaurants and one which we particularly enjoyed is 'The High Spot'. The temperatures and humidity were high during our visit, so we enjoyed swimming at the Dorchester County Pool, on Virginia Ave.
We had a comfortable stay. There were a couple of things. Ants in kitchen, got rid if them with some spray and the cutlery could have been better. Other than that loved the location and the house was very homey.
DC to Cambridge
The house was lovely, charming and comfortable. We LOVED the screened in porch and spent most of our time there. Walking distance to river and restaurants. Lovely historic district. Very friendly town/neighborhood. The only downside was the handy man woke us up early several mornings with a radio and circular saw. Also, there seemed to be confusion about our reservation but overall a wonderful stay.
Less charming than we expected
This home is located in a beautiful historic area. The surrounding homes served as a beautiful glimpse into historic Cambridge. We had very pleasant interactions with the property manager and a helpful realtor who made our entry/exit very simple and accommodating. The 'transaction' process was great!
The property itself, held some pluses and some minuses. We enjoyed the lovely screened in porch for morning coffee and evening drinks. The beds were very comfortable and the neighboring tenants were very kind.
On the downside, upon first opening the door we were met with a strong musty odor which, unfortunately, lingered in some of our clothing upon our return home. We traveled on a 90 degree day and struggled to cool off the apartment for lack of working windows/screens.
Although the apartment was adequately equipped with necessities, the bathroom was not as clean as we would have liked, including the presence of mildew around the tub.
Located in the West End Historic District among many homes over one hundred years old
