Relax with a beautiful view from any of the three patios
Casa Flor de Cactus is located on a hill above the village of La Manzanilla. It has stunning views of the Bay of Tenacatita. It is unusual in its privacy and quiet. A paved road brings you past the three other houses on the road to the paved parking spot. The house is surrounded by trees and its namesake, an ancient cactus.
The house sleeps 6 with a master bedroom downstairs with a full bath. The main level also has a living room and a beautifully tiled kitchen. Both open out through wide wooden french doors onto a patio that overlooks the bay. The sunsets are year-around and something is always blooming.
Upstairs is a grand room with a cathedral ceiling made of local palm leaves. This is the traditional design in this part of Mexico. Rustic but elegant, screened on three sides, it is open to the breezes and amazing views. There are two hammocks and two Adirondack chairs. There is a half bath and washer upstairs and a second shower outside.
All the beds have side tables and reading lamps.
The kitchen is well appointed . There are dishes for 8 and all needed appliances such as a juicer, Cuisinart, blender and toaster.
In the back of the house there is a paved area for hanging clothes as well as a garden of palms.
The road to the off-street parking spot is paved. Although it is a scant half-mile to the beach the road is steep in some places. A car is recommended but not necessary. One can always take a taxi for two dollars. The view makes it worthwhile! Also note that there is a dirt road that leads right up to behind the house but it is only suitable for four-wheel drive vehicles
We have planted lemons, oranges, Mango, papaya, bananas and avocados. Maybe there will be homegrown fruit to eat while you are there.

About Patricia Amsler
My husband and I lived and worked in Latin America for several years. We and our two sons love Mexico and when we found La Manzanilla we knew it was a special place.
Patricia Amsler purchased this House in 2005
Why Patricia Amsler chose La Manzanilla
We bought a building lot and had this beautiful house built by local craftspeople. We have become good friends with the Mexican family from whom we bought the land. Deme also built the house and it was a collaboration that was both fun and deeply satisfying.
What makes this House unique
The house is quiet and private. The views of the bay are expansive and the sunsets are year-around. It is comfortable and secure. The gardens are lovely and there is a caretaker and housekeeper close at hand.

Fabulous house...very special. We will be back many times!!!!
We loved it. It was so peaceful and luxurious. It is well furnished and we loved the lay out. The kitchen had everything we needed and the patio...well a slice of heaven. Always there was a a breeze and we lounged and relaxed and swam and walked. Patricia, the owner, was great and so were Ramon and Olga. It was spotless. Highly recommended. R
Loved this house
We just left this house and are soooo coming back. It is just beautiful. It is quiet yet so close to the beach and the taco stands. It has amazing views and the sunsets are so lovely. We liked the art work and the tile work. The owner was super helpful. It is a gem!
A really special house
We have stayed at Flor de Cactus twice and just loved it. It is surrounded by a natural forest and the birds sang and flew by. It is just a five minute walk down the beach yet you are in your own tropical oasis, removed from the dust and noise of town. We loved the exercise of going up and down the hill but sometimes grabbed a taxi. The hill was not an issue. The security is great. There is lots of outdoor lighting and handsome traditional iron grill work on all the doors and windows. We loved having drinks on the patio or while swinging in the side by side hammocks. You can hear the ocean and there was a gentle warm breeze. The furnitue is comfortable and there is a huge eclectic collection of books. Ramon, the full time caretaker, was always available and the owner was helpful. This really is a specal house in a great Mexican beach town. There are plenty of restaurants and shops and the boogie boarding was so much fun. We'll be back.
We had a wonderfully blissful experience in this amazing home. Experience three vistas of the Tenacatita Bay. Breakfast on the lower deck and moving upwards through out the day for amazing views and complete privacy was a real treat. Ending our day reading on a hammock watching the sunset we were reminded of the beauty all around. You can sleep outside or inside, read to your hearts content since this house is filled with books. The beach is a ten minute walk away. since the house is on a hill we got great exercise everyday. If you are not a walker there are taxi's in town.
The owner is incredibly helpful and has designed a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing home, from the garden/landscaping, to artwork, physical layout, and amenities for comfortable living. We can't wait to visit again!
Casa Flor de Cactus is a slice of heaven. It sits high on the hill, with amazing views of Tenacatita Bay from all three levels. The casa is well-appointed, immaculate, with the owner’s personal and thoughtful attention to detail. We felt as if we were staying in someone’s lovingly and tastefully decorated home. The most enchanting space is the upper level bedroom/bath, open on three (screened in) sides, with a palapa roof. In the morning the brilliantly colored birds would wake us with their birdsong as we lounged in what felt like our own “nest”.
After a leisurely breakfast prepared in the traditional tiled kitchen with yet another view out the the bay, we’d eat al fresco on the patio. Then, a short walk down the hill into town for our day’s supply of groceries at one of the local markets and for our daily half kilo of fresh tortillas from the tortilleria. Afternoons were always spent at the beach - the water is perfect for swimming and kayaking. After a walk back up to our casa, we’d rinse off in the outdoor shower. Then, laze around in the hammocks, reading or taking a siesta, in the top floor aerie. Evenings meant a spectacular sunset from any of the terraces or a sunset walk on the beach. We ate most of our meals "en casa", but there are many great restaurants in town, many right on the beach. Our time here in “La Manz” was restful, restorative and revitalizing. We will be back again next winter!
Our house is in La Manzanilla. Tucked into the corner of Tenacatita Bay in the south end of Jalisco, La Manz is a charming small Mexican beach town with a great swimming, body surfing, boogie boarding and walking beach....one of the best beaches on the west coast of Mexico. It is the perfect mix of genuine Mexican fishing village and tourist amenities such as bike and kayak rentals and a wide choice of restaurants and bars. The locals are friendly and happy to share their slice of paradise.
