I have been on lake Vermilion every summer of my life. My grandfather bought our property in the early 50's .It's gone thru a few remodels since then. My wife and kids enjoy the lake as much as I do!
As a family we enjoy boating, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting.
Keith and Brenda Johnson purchased this cabin in 2013
Cedar Cove, the cabin we are renting, is adjacent to our cabin.
We have known the last 3 families who have owned this property and watched them enjoy Lake time too.
When this property became available my wife and I decided to buy it so other families could enjoy the Lake Vermilion experience.
This property is centrally located east/west on the southern shore of the Lake. We are within 7 miles of the Fortune Bay Casino and golf course. We are within 4-5 miles of 3 different restaurants.
We have a small sand beach which is quite a bonus because most shorelines are rock!
Of course the best asset is the Lake itself! 1200 miles of shoreline with over 300 islands. You can also get to the BWCAW from Lake Vermilion. There is a canoe portage and also mechanized boat portage going into 'Trout Lake'.
The cabin, sauna, and amenities were everything that could be expected and more. The property is excellent for families with kids, couples wanting to relax, and excellent fishing on Vermilion Lake.
The sauna was excellent and a great place to relax after a long day of fishing.
The hosts were very cooperative and easy to communicate with at all times as required.
The cabin was very clean and very well equipped with all the essentials for a full kitchen.
The location is very peaceful and tranquil with beautiful sunsets.
The boat launch was very close and the dock was excellent for a 21' 3" boat.
The boat trailer was easy to park on the cabin's trailer spot.
I would recommend this cabin to anyone interested in relaxing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and all other water sports.
The beach was very good for swimming.
We truly hope to return in the near future.
The owner's are very nice. Beautiful view in a calm bay. Cabin was spacious, loved the sauna and shower. We will definitely be going back!
We were a party of four adults who stayed for one week at this cozy and comfortable cabin. The owners were friendly and prompt in communicating with us. We loved the cabin and its location on the lake. The cabin itself is very clean, well appointed and comfortable. The kitchen is fully stocked with all gadgets and dishes you might need. There is one bedroom and a 1/2 bath on the main floor and two bedrooms upstairs. There is a fire pit, a sauna, and a canoe for renters' use. There is a small sandy beach and the lake water is clean and clear! The deck was lovely and the yard was perfect for campfires and accessing the lake. The trees and bushes in between cabins made it feel very private, even if you could occassionally hear your neighbors. The lake is large and our guys had great success fishing for Walleye and other fish while we were there. There were hummingbirds, a lot of loons on the lake and we were able to see the Northern Lights while sitting around the campfire two of the nights we were there. Beautiful! We had a wonderful week and would highly recommend this cabin.
A couple of things to note:
- You cannot drink the water from the tap. So bring plenty of bottled water.
- Verizon customers do not get service in this location and the cabin does not have wifi - so we were off the grid for the entire week (and we loved every minute of it). We could drive approximately 10 minutes in either direction to get cell service when necessary.
- The shower is outside in the sauna. It is clean and the water was hot. We had no issues with this.
- You need to "carry out" your own garbage and recyclables. There is a free recycle drop spot about a 5 minute drive from the cabin and the owner provided information on a for fee garbage drop location as well. (We took our garbage home with us to put in our own can - no problem).
- The Vermillion Club (about a 5 minute drive from the cabin) has fabulous pizzas. You can eat in or buy frozen ones to take back to the cabin!
Overall we would not hesitate to recommend this cabin and would definitely rent it again when we return to the area.
We recently enjoyed a week relaxing at Cedar Cove. The sunsets were fabulous and the lake was clean and quiet during the week. We came primarily to fish and rented a boat out of Timbuktu Marina which was about a 25 minute drive from the cabin but much less by water. There is a small building close to the lake full of odds and ends which was handy for storing all our gear in. The cabin was also well stocked with just about everything you could think of! The reason I didn't give this cabin a 5 star rating was for a couple of reasons. . .first of all, the sewer system is a holding tank system so when the tank is full you must contact the owner to have it pumped out. This shouldn’t be a big deal except we had NO cell service at the cabin with Verizon (not limited service . . .no service!) and no other way was provided to contact the owners. Consequently, we had to drive 10 minutes toward the town of Cook before we were able to text the owners when the light came on (indicating a full tank) and then make a repeat trip to text again when the truck had not come by 5pm that night to pump it out. . .5 hours later. I would suggest to the owners that since there is a situation that will routinely occur requiring renters to contact the owner that a landline be installed and if that isn't possible due to location, that a burner cell phone be provided for situations such as this and in case of emergencies since it’s very likely that many renters will also use Verizon as a provider and experience the same difficulty with communication. The week we were at Cedar Cove there were very few people around or out on the lake (which we loved!) but it could make for a scary situation if the immediate need for help came up. The other item that we were unaware of until after we arrived was that the owners require the renters to take all their trash and recyclables with them when they leave. This was an unanticipated problem since the "dump station” several miles away had limited days and hours of operation. Consequently, we had to leave with bags of trash in an already jam packed van which does not go over well with the other passengers sitting next to it!! Hopefully a "heads up" will allow future renters a chance to plan for this in advance!
We very much enjoyed our stay at Cedar Cove! The cabin was clean and well stocked. Although we were hesitant about the shower being in another building and had never used a sauna, we LOVED it. As nice as the cabin interior was, perhaps the best part was the outside space. The deck is large, clean & faces the Lake. We alternated sitting around the fire pit or the lounge area near the dock. Talk about impressive sunsets!
We were very happy with the Cedar Cove Cabin! My family loved using the sauna and then jumping in the lake. Lake Vermilion is beautiful, and the mid-lake cabin location is ideal. For such a popular lake, it almost seemed like we were the only ones on at times. Very quiet, no noisy speedboats or jet-skis. We would definitely come back again!
