Vive Le Carroll Gardens! New York Magazine just rated Carroll Gardens in top 10 areas to live/work/play in NYC!!

The Brownstone Brooklyn neighborhood that was once an Italian stronghold is quickly becoming the city's Little Paris - fueled by a new French program at a local public school.

Neighborhood playgrounds have recently filled up with French-speaking tots - making it easier these days to find croissants than cannoli on Court St., where merchants have seen a surge in French families looking for favorite products from home.

French government officials estimate there are as many as 20,000 French residents in Brooklyn, more than in Manhattan, with the largest concentration in Carroll Gardens. Butcher John McFadden, whose family owns Staubitz Meat Market, has seen a surge in demand for French-style racks of lamb, boeuf bourguignon and filet mignon. 'It's doubled, tripled, recently,' McFadden said. 'It's good for us.'

Carroll Gardens' other main strip, Smith St., has become so French that restaurant owners launched a Bastille Day celebration. 'If you come to my restaurant on Saturday or Sunday, everyone is speaking French,' said Jean-Jacques Bernat, whose postcard-perfect French bistro on Smith St., Provence en Boite, has begun stocking special candies and other goodies, especially for the nabe's growing numbers of homesick expats.

Why Loretta chose Brooklyn

Carroll Gardens is a beautiful tree lined area with great shopping and restaurants. It is close to the subway and a few minutes from Manhattan. The neighborhood is very family friendly and safe. There is also a very enjoyable nightlife with great bars and eating options. All within walking distance of the home.

What makes this apartment unique

This home is in a great location in the best neighborhood of Brooklyn. We love Carroll Gardens and this home is located conveniently between two subway lines.

Great Place, Great Area

  • 4 of 5

Me and friends had a great stay, comfortably slept the 5 of us with plenty of space left available Loretta was very accommodating and comes highly recommended. The best part is you are walking distance to Smith Street with tons of bars, restaurants and some of the best pizza I've ever had.

Property was not cleaned before our arrival.

  • 1 of 5

Upon arrival I found the beds not made. There were dirty towels laying outside of the bathroom, you could tell that one of the beds was slept in and dirty, a couple of dishes in sink and I needed to sweep the outside steps, because they were a mess. I would ever recommend this property for families ever.

Correct mais sans plus.

  • 3 of 5

Great time and stay in Brooklyn.

  • 5 of 5

Loretta really accommodated us well before and during our stay. The small bedroom is definitely small but livable for two people. The location made it easy to walk down to Smith St. and visit the local shops and get to the train easily. The grocery store on the corner had everything we needed to feed the family on a budget and made it easy to spend where and when we needed to. Overall the house was quaint and made for a wonderful stay in Brooklyn.

Good location, larger basic unit

  • 3 of 5

We liked the location, being close to restaurants and the subway. We were in Manhattan in no time with great connections all over. With two older kids it was great - everybody had his own bedroom. Response to cleaning was good after arrival. The owner was accommodating when our son got real sick during our stay. Would be wonderful though to have a full set of cutlery and new towels/face cloths to make it feel more like a rental unit/home away from home. Maybe a binder with things to do directly around the complex would be helpful, when we left we noticed all sorts of nice stores and restaurants around the corner Thank you

Perfect location - very basic

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay - the location is perfect. Having said that the place only has the most basic equipment (e.g. there were not enough spoons, forks,... for all guests) and whoever cleans the place should take the time to look into and under things... We found used coffee mugs with tea bag still in and other things that should be cleaned/found with a little effort.

Summary: If you need lots of space in the perfect location and do not plan to stay in other than for sleeping - you found your spot.
