There is something for everyone in Tahoe Donner!
Our whole family loves sports and the outdoors. We rented cabins many times in Tahoe Donner over the years and we enjoyed all of it - Donner Lake, the tennis center, cross-country and downhill skiing and - being a competitive swimming family - that heated lap pool at Trout Creek. When we decided to buy a home in the mountains, Tahoe Donner was the only true choice. It is great for both winter and summer. We look forward to fun times and wonderful memories here and we hope you will too.
Kim Bearly purchased this house in 2011
Tahoe Donner offers everything you could want summer or winter, for outdoor recreation and relaxation. Truckee with it's fun bars, restaurants and shops is right around the corner. A little further afield and you are in the Old West at Nevada City for Chili cook-offs, taking the railroad, touring the Comstock or, exploring the various lakes and towns in the area. And of course Tahoe City and Lake Tahoe are accessible by a lovely bike path. It is a true year-round vacation destination.
This place is perfect!!! Plenty of space for our family of five. The kids loved the air hockey table and we played most of the games. The kitchen has everything you are going to need to make meals here at the cabin. I brought a few knifes and other kitchen items in case but I didn't have to use any of the stuff I brought because they have everything! Master bed was super comfy and loved the view (has a nice deck off master but we had fresh snow the night we checked in so we never went out). Great neighborhood and two neighbors introduced themselves and welcome us to the neighborhood. Wood burning stove and fireplace kept the place toasty and the central heating was nice for the nights. Stayed over Christmas and the place was decorated perfect for Christmas. When you walk in the views off the back make it feel like your in the middle of the woods by yourself. We loved this place!! Great location that is close to everything. Thank you for everything!! Nothing bad to mention about this place. You'll be happy you picked this place! Everything was awesome from start to finish!
Thank you Kim for allowing us to stay in your home this past week. My family and I had a fantastic time visiting all that the area has to offer. Your home was the perfect location and had all that we could have wanted in the way of comfort and convenience. It was great to spend the day hiking and swimming and then come back to the house and fire up the barbecue and relax on the hammocks or inside. My favorite part was simply enjoying a good meal on the back deck waiting for our nightly visitors to arrive. Yes, that's right, a family of four deer would walk by every evening. On one night they stopped and ate leaves off of one of the bushes just off the deck. Thanks again!
First off let me say that the owner Kim went out of her way to contact us directly as this was a very last minute booking. No other homeowner did that, some never responded and a couple just sent a payment request. We appreciated Kim calling us directly making sure we were able to book her home and gave us some more info about the area. When we arrived at the "cabin in the woods" we were so impressed at how nice the home was. The pictures don't do the home justice, it's even nicer than the pictures. Upstairs had 2 rooms, a full bathroom and loft area with a air hockey table that our kids loved! The master bedroom was spacious with a cathedral ceiling and windows that allowed the light in in the morning and a sliding door that opened to a balcony outside the master bedroom. Nice to go out and look over the back and open to feel the breeze. 2nd room had a queen bed and bunk bed. Downstairs had another. Bedroom with a queen bed (we didn't use this room) and full bath, the bathroom had a nice seat inside the shower/tub area. Loved the kitchen, opened up to dining room as living room. The kitchen was very roomy, my hubby and I were able to cook together comfortably. We were able to make some great breakfast during our stay. The dining area had a nice table we were all able to sit around and enjoy our meals. The living room had a sectional and 2 chairs that was perfect for us to lounge and enjoy our time together. We enjoyed all the board games that were available to us and had a couple of intense games of CLUE. We also enjoyed the deck out back with the BBQ and the 2 hammocks on the trees in the backyard area. Our 10 year old daughter spent her down time relaxing and reading in the hammock as often as possible during our stay. We can't wait to go back! We saw a buck (deer) on our first day there and a raccoon the next night. The only way our stay better could have been would have been to include our dog Leo. Otherwise our stay was darn near perfect! Loved your home Kim and we'll be back! Thanks
This is our second stay at Kim's charming cabin and I can't imagine staying elsewhere. We were here in the summer 2 years ago. We were anxious to try a winter stay as well. The cabin is pristine clean and charmingly decorated just as we remembered. It shows pride of ownership in every detail.
Beds: We have found every bed to be very comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows - very cozy. We did not use the bunk beds.
Bathrooms: Quite large for a cabin and gleaming. Fluffy white towels and well-stocked with TP and soaps.
Kitchen: We do not seriously cook much but I really appreciate having spices, seasonings and olive oil if I want to one night. Both stays we have had teas and sugar and basic stuff in the fridge - mustard and ketchup, other condiments. We don't 'expect' these items but there is a selection and it is very convenient.
The layout: It is large for a cabin - all bedrooms spacious with nice views and custom blinds. It's nice that the upstairs loft area has the air hockey table. The family room, dining area and kitchen are integrated so the group feels cohesive.
The forest out back is gorgeous, private and silent. We remembered hanging in hammocks out there in summer; we built a snowman this winter.
We really enjoyed the Trout Creek Center just down the road - the fitness center and the heated pool were a great way to spend an afternoon and the hot tubs after skiing were perfect. We recommend to anyone coming to bring a lot of your own food. The lines at Safeway in Truckee can be long especially between 4 and 7.
This is not a luxury cabin (nor is it priced like one) but it is perfect for a group or family to spend quality time relaxing in the woods. The knotty pine walls and vaulted ceiling are exactly what we want in a mountain cabin. We have nothing but praise for this cabin and it's nice to know what you are getting when you return...and we will return time and again.
We had a wonderful time during our stay here. Loved the air hockey! And having the untouched woods right out the back door was a joy to us all.
Our group of 8 had a fantastic time here. The adults felt it was a home, not a rental house. The kids just cared about the air hockey table and the board games. Close to Donner, we could come back for a quick break when we wanted. More often than not, it was just great to play in the back yard. Owner Kimberly was responsive to any questions and made sure we were able to get in touch with the snow plow service. Everything was accurately listed. We hope to return again soon!
