Please book early for 2017 as our property usually books up by March for the summer! This immaculate home is located directly on the Albermarle Sound with a private dock and swimming platform. Enjoy a (FREE) solar heated swimming pool just feet from the Sound. We also use a salt chorinator, which is much healthier than chemicals and better for the skin. An acre of beautiful landscaped yard and breathtaking waterfront views are yours to enjoy!
There are two large Master suites with Andersen french doors that open to sitting areas where you can enjoy the serenity of the water with your morning cup of coffee and listen to the variety of native birds. The home, with touches of Cape Cod decor throughout, has a total five large bedrooms, three full baths, a large indoor jacuzzi tub, , wood floors, French Doors onto a patio, a gas fireplace, and a beautiful piano.
Also, the bedroom areas are on either end of the house and separated by the common living area (living room, kitchen and dining room). So, there is much more privacy in situations where there are two families or if the adults want to be separated from the kids (smile). The property is located on nearly an acre of beautifully landscaped grounds with several large pine trees where the kids can explore the hideaways, nooks and crannies, and spend hours swimming in the lake-like Sound or in the heated pool with Soundfront views. Use the firepit in the backyard for smores!
Guests have told us time and time again that the pictures don't do justice to the experience. There are (2) two-person kayaks for your use and a hammock for relaxing in the back yard. Crabs are plentiful from the dock and the Sound has a clean, sandy bottom and is just 4 feet deep for 100 yards. Call soon to enjoy kayaking, swimming, fishing, bicycling, or relaxation at our home.
Located away from the hustle and bustle of the tourists but close enough to enjoy the quaint shops, the local winery and eateries. This house will provide the rest and relaxation you need. If you are looking for an escape with or without family, we invite you to visit our Soundfront home at the Outer Banks!

I am a nurse anesthetist and fitness instructor in Columbia, MD I am passionate about fitness and good nutrition. I have traveled a good bit and have tried to create an experience for families who visit a "Sound Decision" It offers privacy and many opportunities to reconnect with each other as it seems all have such a busy life these days.
Tawyana Fleming purchased this house in 2004
We have been visiting the Outer Banks for several years. We wanted a quiet location to spend time with our family. We were so blessed to find a property right on the sound with an existing dock and all on one level. Its located on the mainland but still on the most beautiful waterfront and the best sunsets at the Outer Banks. Its a 5-7 minute drive right over the bridge to the main Outer Banks attractions so its close to the 'action' but private for those of us who truly like a vacation away from it all. This is a unique location and the only vacation rental property in this neighborhood.
An acre of flat land with a beautiful back yard right on the Albemarle Sound. The crabbing right off the dock is excellent. The water is clean with a sandy bottom and about 4 1/2 feet deep as far as you can see! The salt chlorinator solar heated pool is open from mid-May to mid-October The home accommodates 2-3 families very comfortably with 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths. We provide one canoe and one kayak for your use in the sound. We have several repeat renter families that have been coming to the Outer Banks for a long time. Once they stay at our place, they say nothing else compares and its like staying at a home rather than a rental property.
This has got to be one if not the best rentals for this area! The view and the privacy, by far, cannot be beat! The owners have thought of every ammenity possible-they are a pleasure to talk to and work with. This home is much more than meets the eye and I can honestly say that we can't imagine staying anywhere else while visting the outer banks! Even in the "off season", my young children (3,5, and 8)were completely satisfied and entertained! We will be back and cannot wait to sit once again in those red chairs by the ocean!
First off, my specific ratings for this rental:
2 stars for the condition of the actual house
5 stars for the location
3.5 stars overall, for the price paid
The location of this vacation home cannot be beat! My family had a wonderful, relaxing vacation and the rest of what I write below is meant to inform future renters, as it has yet to be adequately documented.
The following is a list of minor maintenance/upkeep issues we encountered with this home:
- A good number of the towels are threadbare
- Much of the nonstick cookware is scratched - i.e. the coating is flaking off, presenting a health hazard
- The wooden step from the master closest to the pool had a bad board, causing it to bend when stepped on
- House needed a thorough cleaning (numerous cobwebs (some w/eggs) in most corners, furry ceiling fans, dust on headboards, window sills, etc.)
- Many of the sheets on the beds had small stains
- Numerous drainage/water pressure issues that should be checked out by a plumber (i.e. most of the week, the tub took hours to drain after a 10 minute shower. After my husband cleared the drain, the problem was fixed Also, it was a good day if anyone could get a toilet to flush successfully on the first try)
- No hammock was available, contrary to the pictures
- both the A/C and WiFi went out for a day (owner was very responsive on these issues)
Upon arrival, we learned that the gym/club membership at had not been renewed, due to the house being up for sale. This required my brother-in-law to purchase a week-long membership (he is in law enforcement, which requires him to maintain a fitness regimen) Because it was an amenity that was initially listed with house, I felt slightly short-changed and hence the vacation got off to a less-than-ideal start. I don't think that this was done intentionally, but something in addition to the emailed apology should have been offered.
Our deposit was returned 19 days after our departure. The delay, I suspect was due to the owner questioning an issue that was discovered on the Wednesday after we had left. IMHO, all issues should be identified within the 5-hour cleaning window and by incoming renters' arrival inspection. This caused a bit of post-vacation stress.
On a big positive note, the location on the sound, the pool, and the private surroundings made for the perfect vacation spot for my family.
Bottom line, I'd probably rent this property again, if given the opportunity.
Having traveled to the Outer Banks for 30 years, we decided to give the Sound a chance. All of our other vacations have been on the ocean. We're so glad we did! The kids had an amazing time swimming in the pool, crabbing, kayaking, and jumping off the dock. It was so nice having a large yard, which you don't normally get with oceanfront homes. The early bird adults spent their mornings drinking coffee on the dock. Sunsets were gorgeous. The neighborhood is nice and quiet and safe. Public beach access is just a quick drive away. We can't wait for our next Sound vacation!
We had an extended family vacation at this property, and it was perfect for our needs. The living area (family room, dining room, kitchen, sunroom) are in the center of the house with sets of bedrooms and bathrooms split on both ends of the house. One end even has a couple steps and a door closing the main part off from the bedroom and bath area. This worked well for us as we have small children that could be put to bed in a quiet area while the adults stayed up. The finishes are functional but not high-end, again perfect for families. The yard and location are both great. The yard backs up to the Sound. There is plenty of space and fun to be had there, including a charcoal BBQ, a fire pit, seating, a lovely pool, a hot tub, kayaks and a canoe, lobster pots, a private dock, and breathtaking views. The road is flat and in a quiet neighborhood just a 5-minute drive across the bridge from Kitty Hawk and the Outer Banks islands. So, we liked being out of the hustle and bustle but a short ride to the fun. Some days, we just stayed at the house and enjoyed the amenities. I highly recommend this house for families looking for oceanfront relaxation!
I had to put 5 stars because if you notice nothing else shows up. I think all the reviews were written by the property owner because what people have written doesn't match the house.
First the positives. This was a nice house but older. Needs lots of updates, but something I could look past. The view out the back was beautiful and it has a very nice dock. The pool was nice also. The area is nice and quiet and off the busy main road. We took nice jogs and walks. Also very short drive to the grocery store or Wal Mart to get things. The kayaks are nice.
The negatives. The house has a musty smell. The sheets in the beds were stained and some even smelled. The hot tub didn't work properly and didn't stay hot. Someone came and worked on it half way through the week but the next day it didn't work again. One of the bathrooms is big and nice with a great shower. The other two are old and have water pressure problems. One is very tiny. Some of this stuff I could have look past but the owners can't be trusted. They said we checked out late when we left by 10 am. They then said we damaged a wall, which we didn't and they were not giving the deposit back until they got threatened with a lawyer.
So over all you can and we have got a lot newer and nicer houses for the same or less money. Also the pictures that are shown are outdated. If it tells you anything, the small bushes around the pool are so big now you can't see the pool. Again, just my advice go someplace else.
This house fit our needs perfectly for a relaxing vacation week with my parents, our 2 children and my sister's family and her 2 children. The backyard and dock are beautiful. Our young children were too little to swim off the dock but enjoyed the solar heated pool immensely. Was also great for little kids that the pool has a secure fence with lock mechanism out of reach for the kids. Hot tub is in a perfect spot for a great view of the water. The layout of the home is great for multigeneration family visitors. The wifi worked well. Kitchen was serviceable and better stocked with pots/pans/utensils than some beach houses we have stayed in before. The neighborhood is lovely and quiet. There were a few small maintenance items (e.g.: on arrival, lightbulb out in a bathroom, towel rack needed remounting, unstable rocking chair) but they didn't affect our overall enjoyment and the owner was responsive to fixing them (though after our visit.) We had a wonderful time!
This home combined the best of both worlds for our family. My husband and I used vacation in Wisconsin as children where we would fish and have a lake atmosphere. Our kids are more used to the beach atmosphere since we moved to the East coast. We were able to have our kids experience fishing for the first time as well as enjoy the beach. It was great not having to worry about chlorine reaction with my kids since the pool is saltwater. The house was equipped with all kinds of cookware and utensils to make meals easy. We also enjoyed checking out the occasional crab in the crab pots by the pier.
Catch your own crabs from the dock! This is a great place to kayak, jet-ski,or boat. You are only 3 miles from the brand new water park scheduled to open spring 2017! The closest rental home to the park. A PGA rated golf course is seven minutes away by car with a great restaurant, You can drive to Manteo in the summer to see a live re-enactment outdoor play of the Lost Colony, The Wright Brothers Memorial is 15 minutes away by car. A brand new WATER PARK less than 7 minutes driving distance away is planned for 2017 or 2018. Our vacation rental home is the closest to the waterpark! Others will have to drive back over the bridge in traffic while you can enjoy the watepark at your lesisure Our favorite activity is sitting on our private dock and enjoying the gorgeous sunset! In the evening, build a fire in the firepit with firewood provided and roast marshmallows, The kids love this!
