Guestbook comments from the owner

My wife and I took our 7 year old son and his best friend to the Islander Inn on the ocean in Cape Broyle. We arrived around 4 on Friday and spent the first few hours collecting rocks and searching for pirate treasure on the small secluded rocky beach just seconds from our front deck. Later that evening we roasted hotdogs and marshmallows over an open fire on the beach. The boys then got a quick wash and were sound asleep while the wife and I watching the sun set with a glass of wine or three. Saturday was spent exploring the East Coast Trails, including a 30 minute hike into a fresh water swimming hole that was right out of a scene from Paradise Lost. The narrow river fell into an opening about 200M by 400M before closing back up and rushing away downstream. The tiny pond was cool and oh so refreshing after the walk and we spent hours meeting a dozen other hikers who had the same idea. Later that day we found another fresh water swimming spot only 5 minutes up from the cabin and spent an hour there under the hot sun. That was followed by a 2 minute walk from the river to the gas bar for a soft serve ice cream to beat the summer heat. It was then back to the cabin for steaks and burgers on the BBQ and a trip to the beach to prepare the new fire pit. As the evening settled in we started our fire and again roasted hotdogs and marshmallows. The boys were wiped by 9:30 and the wife and I enjoyed the remaining night on the deck watching stars and listening to waves beat the rocky shore. Sunday morning saw a last search for treasure and a sad farewell to the beach and the deck as we headed back to the city by noon. Although there was TV, a phone and internet in the cabin, we did not require any of it.:)

Charming Cabin in quiet location with all necessary amenities

  • 4 of 5

This was a great property. It was clean and comfortable. Wifi worked very well and the showers were hot. Kitchen had everything you required to cook at home, and an abundance of Windows on all sides meant we could enjoy the cool sea breeze so it wasn't too hot inside. We saw whales and puffins right in the harbour! It's away from the hustle and bustle of the city but that certainly doesn't mean there's nothing to do! The east coast trail goes right by the house, kayaking, boat tours, archaeological and paleontological dig sites and more all all within a half hour! I would most certainly return to this place and stay again!

Nice quiet little cottage right on the ocean.

  • 4 of 5

Nice, clean facility with a great deck and an awesome view. During our stay we saw minke whales, puffins, loons and a seal just steps away from the cottage.

Just a few kilometres off of route 10 we found it very easy to get around to the numerous attractions in the area. South to Cape Race, Lighthouse Picnics and Bernard Kavanaghs in Ferryland. To the north the trip into St. John's was easy as was the drive to O'Briens Whale watching tour in Bull Bays.

We would recommend Brian's cottage to anybody wanting to experience a quiet, laid back Newfoundland vacation.

Cottage on Admiral Bay - Cape Broyle

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely little cottage that overlooks Admirals Cove! We would recommend it to anyone that wants a quiet, relaxing vacation overlooking the beauty of a little part of God's creation. Rocks surround the cove and when the tide is out there is even a little beach you can climb down to. The hiking trail (East Coast trail) starts right out the front door and you will see people pass the cottage to hike this trail. We also had some research scuba divers come to our bay to collect some data. We were only an hours drive from St. Johns, Cape Spear ( the most easterly point of Canada), Signal Hill, Petty's Cove (great restaurant there) and other wonderful coastal villages and scenic places. We were located on the Irish Loop and completed the loop on one of our days (be sure to have a full tank of gas when you do this loop). There is a good local grocery store down the road that had anything you needed and a few restaurants not far away with good food. We loved our stay at the cottage!!!

A lovely little cottage close to major attractions with its own private ocean side cove. Spotlessly clean, well appointed. Steps to the trail, lovely deck for your morning coffee and fire pit for evening gatherings. Everything you need for a girls week or family vacation. Lovely. Great hosts.
