About Ann Ritter
Port Royal native who has lived in Atlanta since 1979. Corporate refugee and consultant who has also taught at the university level. I now do project work, teach yoga and maintain a yoga-therapy practice in Decatur, GA. I enjoy this lovely little cottage when I can between other guest stays. And I would love to share it with you.
Ann Ritter purchased this House in 1962
Why Ann Ritter chose Port Royal
The original "house" here was two rooms with a bath added later between. It was built on Parris Island, USMC property, in the earlier part of the 20th Century and used as a Wave's quarters near the base hospital. Decommissioned when the US Naval Hospital was built, the older hospital and outlying buildings were either torn down or moved off Parris Island in 1961 and '62. My father contracted for the demolition work on all, and relocated this structure to Port Royal in 1962. He added the additional two rooms on the lower level and the back porch. The house served as a manager's home to serve his business from 1964-66, when my father died. Used for storage from 1966-'98, the house was left to me as part of my mother's estate, and I had it restored for rental in 1999. It has been consistently lived in for all of the nearly 20 years since, only last year returning to me for another sprucing up and occasional visits from my family.

Comfortable, sweet cottage in a great location. Close to shops, the YMCA and nature preserve. A nice place to spend time away from home. Easy working with the owner.
Thank you for the nice review, Phoebe.
Likewise, working with this guest was easy and pleasant.
I am delighted that the conveniences of modern Port Royal are there close by for everyone to enjoy, and that the cottage can provide a quiet and lovely temporary home to guests who need one for a few weeks or months.
great vacation rental
Truly enjoyed sitting on the porch in the morning with coffee and the evening with wine while gazing at the marsh and wildlife.
The best part was the location on the marsh. The property has a retro feel and was well equipped with just about everything we needed for an extended stay and we felt comfortable. The wifi worked well. the building could use some maintenance. The bathroom is antiquated and getting into the claw foot tub to take a shower is a safety concern.
I have checked things that are in walking distance, or less than 1.5 miles from the cottage. The City of Beaufort is less than 10 minutes drive away, and it has many additional amenities and necessities that you can purchase, as well as a major hospital/ER/medical facilities and personnel.
