This quaint cottage nestled at the top of a hill is surrounded by woods and has a new wrap around deck which provides a breathtaking view of the exquisite clear blue water of Crystal Lake. It is the perfect combination of privacy and relaxing serenity on top the hill and all the convenience of a 1/2 blocks walk to the public beach, park, tennis courts, restaurants and local shops. At the base of the driveway you are connected to the Betsie Valley Trail. This is a 22 mile bike/hike trail which runs between Frankfort and Thompsonville.
You are minutes away from two boat launches, a day dock, and boat rentals of all kinds. There are so many things to see and do in this area. Just to name a few . . . the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, M22- Michigan’s Scenic Highway, Point Betsie Lighthouse, Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa, Arcadia Bluffs Golf Course, Crystal Lake Golf Club, Winery tours, Interlochen Arts Academy, Little River Casino in Manistee, shopping in the Leland, Glen Arbor and Traverse City.
There are many other area lakes to fish in addition to the fishing in Crystal Lake, the ninth largest inland lake in Michigan and deep water fishing in Lake Michigan just 7 miles away. Enjoy the swimming and relaxing in the sun at the Crystal Lake Beach, Lake Michigan in Frankfort, or tubing to the Mouth of the Platte River in Empire.
We rent Saturday to Saturday.
Crystal Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Michigan. This area has no much to offer as a vacation location.
We fell in love with the location. It's so close to the beach and downtown, yet so private. You aren't right on top of the property next door. It's the best of both worlds.
We had a really great time at the hideaway. Beautiful view. Walk across the street to the beach; close to the quaint downtown for pizza/coffee/beer. Scott and Nancy were very accommodating and quickly solved one minor little problem we encountered. The house was nicely equipped and the kids enjoyed having their own little hideaway in the basement bedroom. The lake was gorgeous and great swimming. In fact, all was pretty much perfect except for the last day when the kids got swimmers itch. Don't take it lightly! But it added to the memories.
We had a wonderful time at Scott and Nancy's cottage. The home was beautiful, cozy and equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed sitting on the porch every morning having coffee and then a cocktail in the evening watching the boats go by. The view off the porch was breathtaking! We visited Frankfort which was a great town with an awesome public beach. We also visited Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Pt Betsie. The only negative was it was very hot the week we were there and didn't get much sleep because there was no central air. They did provide plenty of fans and Nancy was always very helpful if we had any questions. I highly recommend this cozy place and our family would definitely go back!
We had an amazing time and enjoyed our beautiful view from this cute cottage. Decorated just right for the MI vacay and everything we needed was provided. The porch/deck was wonderful for our slow, quiet mornings and busier, playful dinners.
We walked to the beach daily, rode our bikes on the Betsy trail into Frankfort (about a 2 hour round trip), enjoyed the music night and craft fair, walked into town. It is so nice to have all of this within walking distance to the cottage. We had a fire in the fire pit and made s'mores one evening, used the BBQ grill to cook out, and enjoyed each day on the expansive deck...simply gorgeous views!
Our group include my husband and myself, our four children, and two grandparents. The lower level was perfect for the kids, and the adults each got the upstairs bedrooms. Ample storage for all of our things, plenty of extra blankets for everyone, extra chairs to pull up to the table for dinners, all of the kitchen gadgets you may need for preparing your meals, games for the kids to play, room to run and play safely outside, and a bench swing that the kids just adored!
My one and only complaint would be it was pretty warm for northern MI during our stay and we got hot some days/nights. They had a number of fans that we put around the cottage, but the air just didn't move well.
We would definitely stay at this cottage again as we make the trip to Crystal Lake each summer!
Thank you for sharing your Hill Top Hideaway with us, you have done an outstanding job updating it and making others feel welcome!
Overall, we loved our stay at the hill top hideaway. We were traveling with another family with young children and the metal spiral staircase to the basement was not super convenient but we made it work. Loved the wraparound deck, patio and outside fire pit area. Our family spent many evenings huddled around the fire. Nice, short walk to the cute, little town of Beulah. Having no a/c only bothered us one of the days. We'd definitely stay here again!
This was an awesome place to stay! Wonderful vacation. The view is outstanding and the privacy is great as well! I would recommend this vacation home!
All things were as advertised. It has been a long time since we were in Michigan and we had a great time. Everything we needed was supplied in the cottage as the owners said it would be. House was clean. Good view of the lake and pleasant little town. We would recommend this to families who like the outdoors - hiking, fishing, boating and swimming - or to someone who just wanted to have their morning coffee on the deck and watch the sun rise.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Recently rated by Good Morning America one of the most beautiful places in the United State.
