About the property

History and tradition in a holiday apartment in Padova for 2 people

Totally renewed in the past few months, this ground floor apartment is ideal for 2 people. The living room and the bedroom are facing the spacious courtyard, and are flooded with light. The kitchen and the bathroom have both a large window facing a secondary road with very little traffic. You can have your meals in the spacious living room or more cozily in the kitchen. The living room has a comfortable double sofa bed in case you need some extra sleeps. The apartment has 2 accesses, one through the main entrance hall and the second one through a back courtyard, here, upon request a parking is available for the guests.

The apartment is located in the heart of the city centre, the area has limited traffic access, but it is very well served by public transportation and taxis. Moreover you can easily reach by foot Piazza Duomo, Piazza dei Signori, Piazza della Frutta and Piazza delle Erbe. These, together with Prato della Valle, are the main squares in Padua and they are only few minutes walk away from the apartment. Here you can enjoy moments of total relax, and taste typical Venetian food or sip a glass of wine in the many restaurants, bars, trattorias and wine bars that in the good season are equipped with tables and chairs in the open air.

The railway station is very easy to reach, by foot it takes 20 minutes and if you like to use public transportation the bus stop is at 4 minute walk from the apartment. From Padova you can easily reach both by car or by train the most beautiful cities of art Venice, Verona, Vicenza, Ferrara, Bologna and many others.

If you will come by car please provide your plate number at least 6/7 working days before arrival so that we can get you the permission from the local police to let you drive in the centre of the city. The apartment has a dedicated car park available in the court yard (extra charge).

About The Owner

My name is Anna Cogo and I manage two apartments in central Padua. I also manage Frassanelle, a family estate in the countryside 20 km west of Padua in the Regional Park of the Euganean Hills, where it is possible to rent villas and apartments in a beautiful and quiet surrounding. I have started working with tourism in 2008 and today I am responsible for 12 properties in Veneto. In these years I have built up a great experience end a good knowledge of the region. My mother language is Italian but I speak and write English, French and German.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2012

Why The Owner chose Veneto

Il Mezzà is located in the center of Padua and everything is easily reachable by foot. It is quiet, comfortable and beautifully furnished with antiques that have been well maintained. In this apartment in Padua there is no sense of decay that some old property may have, all the upholstery are new. I am a traveler and I know what is more appreciated when you arrive in a new place and what are the expectations after a long and often tiring journey: comfortable modern sofa and beds, spotless linen, a clean bathroom equipped with toilet paper and soap and spotless kitchen. My attention is to make sure that everything is perfectly clean and welcoming.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We spent ten nights in this ground-floor apartment, in the imposing Palazzo Papafava dei Carraresi in the historic centre of Padua. On our arrival we were warmly greeted by Anna, who showed us round and filled us in on all the practical details. We were very impressed not only by the comfort of the apartment itself, with its beautiful antique furniture and numerous old paintings and drawings, but also by the well-equipped kitchen and functional modern bathroom. Although we stayed over the New Year period with low temperatures, particularly at night, the heating system was very efficient and we never suffered from the cold. We had several opportunities to meet Countess Francesca Papafava, who lives in the palazzo; she provided us with ample information about the history of the building and her family and was always very helpful when we had any queries. The palazzo is very well located for visiting Padua: the cathedral and the magnificent baptistery are just a few minutes’ walk away, as are the central squares with their market stalls and the splendid Palazzo della Ragione, with its covered food market underneath. The other main sights – the Cappella degli Scrovegni, the Basilica di Sant’Antonio, the Orto Botanico etc. – are within 15/20 minutes walking distance. The railway station is only a few minutes away by taxi, and can also be easily reached on foot or by public transport: we made a number of trips to nearby cities likes Este, Vicenza and Treviso, and Venice is, of course, just half an hour away. All in all, we highly recommend this apartment and would love to stay there again in the near future.

This is a lovely apt., very spacious and nicely appointed. There is plenty of light, the bed is very comfortable, and the kitchen has everything you need for a nice stay. It is quiet, very secure, first floor (lovely entrance!) and perfectly located in Padua - close to great shops, wonderful restaurants, and all the main sights. We definitely recommend it and hope to be back one day !

Plenty large and Ideal in every way !

  • 5 of 5

We leased this apartment for a extended period of time, staying all of September and October. I cant say enough about how ideal this apartment is, in so many many ways. The location being ideal. In the very center of the best of the central historic area of Padua, walkable to everything, yet right on the road to everywhere, either by car or train, we REALLY enjoyed Padua and the surrounding areas.

The apartment of a comfortable size, plenty of room, decorated with tasteful and comfortable furniture, tasteful in every way. More than adequate storage for our belongings, with easy access large closet and plenty of dressers. Large bedroom, large windows in every room, very warm and tasteful decor and quality comfy king bed, high quality everything in fact, bed linens and towels. Bathroom as well as Kitchen, new and quality everything, more than adequate with with plenty large refrigerator, freezer, and and a quiet dishwasher, Also Washing machine in the apt! The bathroom is accessible from the bedroom and also from the main living areas, giving privacy to those in the bedroom and also any guests staying in the living room area. Doors between all living areas, afford plenty of privacy... Cooking was a joy, having every cooking tool we needed, and did we enjoy cooking and preparing many of our meals. With one of the best daily fruit vegetable and meat/fish markets in all of Italy, a few min walk away, we had everything we could have possibly wanted within easy access. Eat in the Kitchen with Ambiance or the main living area of the apartment. We felt very safe in Padua and our apartment, Major selection of restaurants and morning coffee and pastry shops, again out the door. There is no Bad food in Padua ! Many of the restaurants, open air dining, ambiance abound ! Easy and uncomplicated access to the train that would take us everywhere, ..The management team for the apartment, available and helpful. My vote is of course Padua, and this apartment. We will return!

Very comfortable apartment in an ideal location.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect apartment for us to explore Padova and Venice. Very comfortable, in a beautiful building with everything a tired tourist needed. We had 3 day trips to Venice - a 15 minute walk to the station, lots of convenient trains and only half an hour away. But so much to see in Padova - Scrovegni Chapel and Palazzo del Bo were particular highlights. We loved shopping in the markets, produce was delicious. We definitely wish to return.

Elegant property in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed in loads of apartments and this was easily one of the best. Situated in a grand palazzo with windows onto an internal courtyard on one side and a street on the other, it has character in abundance with beautiful stone tile floors and antique furniture. Yet it also very functional with quality fittings throughout, very well equipped and everything very well thought out.

Spent days trawling the internet for apartments in Padova and this one stood head and shoulders above the others.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Nick, we are happy to hear that you have enjoyed your stay at Il Mezzà! Our aim was to create a cozy and intimate atmosphere that at same time would preserve the sense of history of an ancient palazzo in Padua, so we are glad that you have appreciated the details and furniture. We hope to see you again, thanks for being our guest!

Central, secure, comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

If you enjoy old world understated quality and modern comfort, and if you are using a car, this is an ideal place to stay. Located in the old heart of Padova, close to the markets, cafes and restaurants and shops, this apartment has excellent parking directly by the apartment door, which is within a secure courtyard. It is all exactly as the photographs show. The furniture, linens, the kitchen and equipment is all quality, practical and comfortable. It is clean and well maintained and I would recommend it.

An illustrated guide to the larger palace and the Papafava family's significance in Padova would be a lovely book to read.

We would have been delighted to use the garden- even a restricted part of the garden- but it was out of bounds.

It was an excellent, restful apartment with everything we needed for our visit. The September weather was pleasant and we had no need of the fans or heaters.

We did a little cooking every day, buying delicious things in the markets, and this was a source of daily delight.

The city of Padova, or Padua in English, is located only 30 km West of Venice and it is well known for its prestigious history and for the many artists and scientist that have lived and worked here. In the middle ages, under the rule of the da Carrara family, it has represented a serious threat to Venice’s ambitious expansion in the main land.

A visit of Padua has to start with the Scrovegni Chapel painted by Giotto, the frescos represent one of the most relevant and valuable masterpieces of western art. The walls of the Chapel are painted with scenes from the Gospels and the life of Jesus and Mary. The Chapel belongs to the same complex of the Museo degli Eremitani which includes the archaeological museum and the pinacoteque with art works by Giotto, Guariento, Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, Tiepolo and a broad overview of Venetian paintings from '400 to '800.

Founded in 1222, the University of Padua, named Il Bò, is one of the oldest in the world, among its illustrious students and teachers there are Copernico and Galileo Galilei. The University's Botanical Garden, founded in 1545, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because “it is the origin of all the botanical gardens in the world and represents the cradle of science, scientific exchange and understanding of the relations between nature and culture.” The university also host the oldest anatomical theatre in the world. The room, perfectly preserved, was built in 1594. The central area still has the original dissecting table and around it the up going wooden tiers for the students as in a Roman theatre.

The Basilica of St Anthony of Padua is the symbol of the city, its construction started in 1232 and went on until 1310. Here are kept the relics of S. Antony, the Portuguese Franciscan saint who died in Padua in 1231.

The Court of Padua was located in the Palazzo della Ragione, built starting form 1218, its first floor hosts the largest hanging room in the world and the walls are entirely frescoed with astrological themes, here you can also find the huge wooden horse, created on Count Annibal Capodilista’s will for an extraordinary feast in 1466. The Palazzo separates the two Piazzas, Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta, animated daily by a lively vegetable and fruit market that is only 8 minute walk from the apartment. The ground floor of the Salone is full of little exquisite food shops as bakeries, butchers, fish shop, cheese shops etc.

Only 4 minutes walk from the apartment there is the Padua Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and its Baptistery: an impressive Romanic style building first built in 313 and rebuilt many times over the centuries. The frescoes in the Baptistery are the work of Giusto de’ Menabuoi, a painter active in Padua in the second half of the 14th century.

If you like to have a rest during you visit of Padova, go to Caffè Pedrocchi, the world famous “door less café”, so-called because until 1916 it was open 24 hours a day, located just in front of the university it was a famous meeting place for artists, intellectuals and students.

If you decide to come to Padua do not miss the largest square in Italy and the second largest in Europe, Prato della Valle today is the favorite meeting place of Padua’s students and every 3rd Sunday of the month there is an antique market. In the medieval time it was the place for military parades and folk festivals. The shape of the square is elliptical and in the centre there is an island surrounded by a canal and 78 statues, made in the 18th century, which represent important people of the history of Padua.

Padua is also full of restaurants, trattorias and wine bars, you will find in the apartment a list of the ones most recommended by the owner.
