About Karen Schaaf

Mike and Karen Schaaf reside in Savannah, Georgia.

Karen Schaaf purchased this house in 2013

Why Karen Schaaf chose Georgia

On a short weekend trip, we discovered St. Mary's and fell in love. The small town is quiet and picturesque with historic architecture, beautiful waterfront vistas, and the friendliest residents. You feel at home right away!

One look at the Captain Morse House, and we knew we had to become its caretakers. We have spent the first six months painstakingly restoring it to it's former glory. We are very proud of it, and would like to share it with you.

What makes this house unique

The Captain Morse House is located in the heart of historic St. Mary's, and is the closest VRBO to the riverfront and Cumberland Ferry.

Restaurants, shops, and the beautiful Howard Gilman Waterfront park are all short steps away (our dogs LOVE the park!)

The Navy's Kingsland Submarine base is a ten-minute drive, great if you are active/retired military.

The price point of this property should be that of a one star hotel

  • 1 of 5

Multiple locations throughout the house where rodents have chewed through the walls, ceiling and floors are just covered with wire screen. No proper repairs have been made in years to this home and it shows. Does not comply with current safety codes such as ground fault protected circuits in kitchen. House is not secure. No alarm dont leave valuables.

Beautiful historic home in downtown St. Mary's, GA

  • 4 of 5

The home was beautiful. It was a functional older home. We had one shower that didn't work well and the plumbing was consistent with an old home (poor water pressure when more than one thing was running), but overall we loved this place and would rent the same home again.

Charming Vintage Home in Historic Saint Mary's

  • 5 of 5

We loved this charming home. There were six of us - three couples. We each had a bedroom and bathroom to ourselves and plenty of room to spare. There are a lot of special touches and antiques in the house that complete the character of the house. We tooled around town and visited the chalk art contest and music in the park. We spent a lot of time inside as it was hot and humid outside. The air conditioner works great. We played a lot of cards. Our two favorite restaurants were Saint Mary's Seafood & More and The Riverside Cafe.

The house was quinnessential Deep South with classic charm.

  • 4 of 5

Beds were indeed comfortable, AC was nice and kitchen well stocked. The house provided us with the needs of our vacation. St Marys is a very chill town. Restaurants and bars nearby relatively quiet. Loved the access to Cumberland Island - magnificent history of Carnegie legacy and wild horses leftover from Spanish influence.

We did some fishing and enjoyed the variety of species and richness of nature in the local waters. Thank you Karen for making our stay easy and appreciate your prompt replies to all inquiries.
