Sandy Lane Villas
The Sandy Lane Villas complex is perched at the edge of the spectacular and historic Bloody Point beach. (Site of a ferocious battle between native Americans and British soldiers in the early 1700's.) The wonderful quiet, secluded beach is just steps away from your villa via a picturesque boardwalk over the beach dunes.
The large sunny pool between the complex and the beach dunes provides a fun destination for the whole family.* Along with spacious decking and ample lounge chairs is a shaded area for grilling. The beautiful architecture of Sandy Lane is in evidence with its many columns, arches, pillars and balustrades. The grounds have been professionally landscaped with palms and flowering plantings. Your villa is located on one of the best-kept secrets on the eastern coast: Daufuskie Island. Your home overlooks 3 miles of pristine, quiet beaches where all you can hear is the sound of gentle waves and beautiful shore birds. Watch the shrimp boats, bike or ride horses along the beach, take a Historic tour and discover the Gullah History of Daufuskie or take in a round of golf. Those interested in unique shopping opportunities will want to visit the Iron Fish Art Gallery, Daufuskie Peach, Daufuskie Blues, the Silver Dew Potter, Wine and Woodworks and more! And you certainly don't want to miss the Daufuskie Island Community Farm, where old and young visitors alike are encouraged to help feed the chickens and even to try milking a goat!

Very Nice place we stayed at.
Not much to do for the kids, only 2 restaurants open on the island. And they are only open 5 days of of the week. Pool was freezing cold, general store had pop in the cooler and that was about it. If you stay on this island, bring lots of Food!
First, I'm glad you liked the Sand Castle Villa. It IS really a nice villa, isn't it? Guests especially like to quiet and private feel with the ocean at the front and woods at the side.
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy our wonderful island more. As most of our property reviews will reflect, most kids love Daufuskie! There is, first of all, our beautiful beaches. And the Sand Castle Villa's building has a private pool. It's true it is not heated, and it is usually too cool in March for pool swimming. I'm sorry if you expected something different.
But (aside from the great beach!) there's so much more to do on Daufuskie, including for kids! First, children love riding around on golf carts exploring the island. Our wildlife is fabulous, and the people are friendly. We have a great community farm with lots of baby goats, cows, ducks, etc etc. DRG has a arrangement with the Haig Point's equestrian center for horseback riding and pony rides (and golf for adults). Tour Daufuskie offers kayaking and paddle boarding; legendary Sallie Ann Robinson offers wonderful historic tours of the island; and our island museum is fascinating and includes an interactive session for kids; For adult visitors we also have great artisan galleries, the School Grounds coffee shop, the Daufuskie Blues Indigo Studio, the Daufuskie Rum Company, the Daufuskie Peach shop, our wonderful funky General Store, the Wine and Woodworks shop, and much more. (By the way, I think you were referring to a now-closed general store at the county dock, and not the Freeport General Store, which has a pretty good selection of drinks, snacks, and basic food items.)
You mentioned the restaurants, but not the correct days of operation. The Crab Company at Freeport Marinas is open 7 days a week, and the incomparable Lucy Bell's Cafe is open every day but Monday for fabulous breakfasts and lunches. We also have several local ladies who will deliver delicious southern and Gullah meals to your property...with an option for a cooking lesson if it's prepared right in your own kitchen.
We do hope you try Daufuskie again, and we'll work hard to make sure you learn to love our special island as much as we do!

Great Place to Get Away
Anyone looking to relax and get away should travel to Daufuskie. This property is in a fantastic location with direct beach access. Deborah and her crew were there for us throughout our vacation to help with anything we needed - incredibly responsive and much appreciated. Would rent again -
Lovely Villa, Beautiful Island
We very much enjoyed our 5 days in this villa. It is modern, well maintained, and beautifully furnished and the kitchen really is one you can cook in. This villa is on the second floor of 5 floors in the condo building. The pool is a few steps away from the elevators and just beyond that is the beach. The beach is mostly white sand and stretches to a nature sanctuary to the south, approaching Bloody Point, and Melrose (I think) to the north. It was very uncrowded, even in August. We were often the only family on the beach. There are almost no waves at this particular beach, which would be ideal for small children or toddlers. The only advice I have for Daufuskie vacationers is to buy and bring with you EVERY drop of food and water or beverages you think your family would consume during your stay. There REALLY is no grocery store and when our group ran out of water bottles after 3 days we had to buy them individually for $2.50 a piece at the Bloody Point Golf pro shop. The Bloody Point little pantry stocks individual water bottles and milk, but not much else, and you will pay through the nose. The restaurant situation is not good. Plan to make all your meals at the villa. We arranged ahead of time to have Ernestine Smith prepare and drop off a meal of fried chicken, okra & tomatoes, and corn bread. It was absolutely wonderful. Marshside Mama's had decent food, but was really dirty. The Bloody Point Resort restaurant was clean, but the food was pretty awful (Chef Boyardee Pizza for pizza night- $99 for 5 people and tbh I have had better frozen pizza. It also took 1 hour to be served and they were not even busy.) While on the island, members of our group toured the island rum factory (very fun- highly recommend), stopped at a hand made soap and lotion business in a woman's home (Peach something)- also wonderful and played golf at Bloody Point- nice course. This is a great rental if you are looking for a quiet get away with your family.
Thanks for coming and we are glad you enjoyed the Sand Castle Villa...a consistent favorite with our vacation guests. It truly is in a wonderful location, just steps away from a beautiful secluded beach, and of course the villa pool. ********Sorry you were disappointed by the restaurants; most people rave about Marshside Mama's and enjoy the Bloody Point's Eagle Nest Restaurant, and especially Pizza Night. You did not mention the memorable Lucy Bell's Cafe, open for breakfast and lunch and specializing in incredibly delicious and huge southern-style meals (and not too far from where you were staying), nor did you mention the Old Daufuskie Crab Company, down at Freeport Marina, which has great menu selections, a lovely location overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, and often featuring weekend bands for extra fun. You also didn't mention our new Morning Coffee High, a fabulous little coffee shop located in the heart of the Historic District. Most of our visitors enjoying visiting all of these restaurants, and getting to know the local folks at the same time. **** Thanks for coming, and we hope to see you again. A beautiful condo - very private and relaxing! Deborah was a great help to us throughout our stay!
Relaxing, wonderful, family-friendly getaway
The Sand Castle Villa was a wonderful, clean, and well appointed condo. The villa is perfect for families of all sizes. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and very comfortable. The kitchen was stocked full of any supplies needed to make an enjoyable meal. The villa also included books, games, and other entertainment when we had a rainy evening. The view from the porch was of course beautiful, and the beach was very easily accessible. There where chairs and many other beach supplies that were provided which was very convenient for my family. Staying at the Sand Castle Villa was certainly the one of the highlights of our trip. We cannot wait to return to Daufuskie and the Sand Castle Villa!
Perfect getaway with resort-like amenities
Plenty of space for our family of 4, could easily accommodate 2 families. We loved the pool and the beach. To me, the Sandy Lane villas are the ideal place to stay on the island.
Daufuskie Island is a wonderful destination. There were times we were the only ones on the beach as far as you could see.
I can't wait for our return trip to the island!
We are so glad you enjoyed your Daufuskie vacation! We also agree that the Sandy Lane Villas are a great location for a beach vacation!
And, of course, the private and pleasant Sand Castle Villa is the perfect villa for families!
We hope to see you again!
