About Ernest Dale Holston

The owners, Renee and Dale Holston, are both natives of Chincoteague Island, and their ancestors here date all the way back to the 1700's.

Ernest Dale Holston purchased this house in 2013

Why Ernest Dale Holston chose Eastern Shore

The property has belonged to the owners for many years, and Dale lived his first sixteen ears on the same street. This long-standing history on Mumford Street led to the decision to build a vacation home in this location so that visitors could enjoy the atmosphere and spend time in at 1920's style Chincoteague home.

What makes this house unique

As you enter the home, you will see vast assortment of memorabilia from the early 1900's. The home was newly constructed in 2013.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights. We walked into the house and found it in pristine condition. It's obvious the owners enjoy their Chincoteague roots. There are artifacts and memorabilia every where. The kitchen was very well out fitted. We cooked dinner "at home" 2 nights. We enjoyed our morning caffeine on the lovely screened in porch. My husband used the outdoor shower each evening while I used the indoor shower. (His preference) The master bed was very comfortable. You did have to be careful when walking around the bed, as there was little clearance between the foot board and the small table which held the TV remote.

We look forward to coming again. We walked all over town, rode our bikes, and truly enjoyed the island and our home away from home.

Quaint, very clean and very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This little house was everything we hoped it would be; very cozy, well-equipped, right in downtown Chincoteague yet very quiet. The owners have done a wondeful job providing a well maintained, well equipped and very comfortable rental that is more like a home than any vacation unit we've ever stayed in. We opted to cook most meals at home (fresh seafood of course!) and had no trouble at all due to the abundance of useful cooking gadgets and utensils in the kitchen. Morning coffee on the back porch was a pure pleasure, and each night we strolled to the ice cream stores through quiet streets. We can recommend this rental unit without any hesitation, and we hope to return again soon!

Beautiful House, Not Very Practical

  • 3 of 5

We've come to Chincoteague for more than 20 years and this is the most beautiful, upscale place we've ever rented. This house would be nice for a childless couple, but we were traveling with a college and high school age daughter, and found it really wasn't for us:

1)The bedroom with twin beds has no space for a bureau. The girls had to live out of their suitcases.

2)The bathroom is lovely, but it has no space for toothbrushes or toiletries, or anything else. Walls are covered with decorations, but no shelves!

3)The kitchen has matching pots and pans and dishes (rare in a beach house!), but nothing like a basic, non stick skillet, or a set of measuring cups and spoons.

4)The decorations EVERYWHERE. Great if you are in a bed and breakfast for the night, not so nice if you need space to place your own belongings.

(Important note for anyone with kids considering this house: unless you trust your kids with lots and lots of breakable collectibles, this is not the place for you.)

5)Big furniture, small master bedroom. I have grazes on my leg from bumping into the edge of the big captain's bed, as there is barely any walking space between it and the bedroom wall, and there's a little table holding the TV cable box that also gets in your way. It would be worth wall mounting the box, and taking the stand out!

The good points:

1)Fabulous screened deck--I took pictures of it because we are moving into a new house and need to redo our deck, and I loved this one. Beautiful deck furniture, too. The outdoor shower is a nice touch.

2)Speaking of furniture, we loved eating at the big table so much, we are considering one for our own house.

3)Living room is overdecorated, but the chairs and sofa are comfortable, and it's a cozy spot to read. Excellent WiFi. (We never did use the TVs!)

4)Very clean, lots of things on hand, including a state of the art washer/dryer.

5)Lots of privacy--neighbors are at a distance. Very quiet. This is a great location. It's just a quick walk down to Main Street where you can find Bill's Restaurant (best on Chincoteague) and more. The Island Supermarket and a fish market are on the next street down, easy to bike or walk, and minutes by car. Or you can drive down Willow Street over to Maddox for the world's best ice cream (really) at the Island Creamery, and down the commercial strip towards Assateague.

6)Very nice, helpful owner. We appreciate the loving care that went into this place. It's just not right for our family.

Comfort and Convenience!

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredibly relaxing stay at myrtle on Mumford! so close to downtown's restaurants, but also very close to the grocery store, seafood market, and farmer's market. The home was well outfitted for cooking at home, and we loved our meals on the private, screened in back porch. This home has amazing character and is steeped in the history of the island. Very comfortable for our family of four. Dale is available and accommodating- we hope to return year after year!

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year staying at Myrtle on Mumford. As I have stated before, we will not stay anywhere else. Dale is always on hand when needed and he always greets us. He is very informative and gracious. This is the perfect home away from home. Everything is soooo comfortable and inviting. We treat it as our own. My husband and I can't wait to return to our vacation home away from home!! Thank you for another great vacation Dale.

God willing, see you next summer!
