About Frances Ponder

After retiring from public school teaching with 30 years, I wanted to do something totally different. When the Matson House became available, I purchased the property and totally renovated the inside and decided to use the house for short term vacation guests. I have two adult sons, Jason and Aaron. Jason was commissioned from United State Naval Academy with a degree in mechanical engineering and from Navy Post-Graduate School with a masters in mechanical engineering. He is currently a LT Commander in the US Navy stationed at NavSea, Washington, DC. Jason and Cristin married Oct. 2017 and make their home in a historic row house in downtown DC. Aaron earned a degree in physics and then moved across the US to earn a masters in renewable energy engineering at Oregon Tech. He currently works for PacifCorp in Portland but wants to move to a more progressive renewable country.

After retirement, I began volunteering in juvenile court through CASA (court appointed special advocate), work local elections for the election commission, and work sporting events at Science Hill High School.

Frances Ponder purchased this house in 2011

Why Frances Ponder chose East

Since I was a public school teacher, the Matson House fits my style. It was built as a school in the late 1800's and was called Matson Institute. The Matson House is located on adjoining property to my log home and additional acreage. The house is very comfortable and nicely furnished. I guarantee the house will be very clean and ready for you at check in. I am always available for directions, suggestions, or any need you might have.

What makes this house unique

The inside of the house is completely new and very clean. All new plumbing, electrical, foam insulation, high speed wireless internet, HD cable-TV, ADT monitored security and all furnishings create a comfortable home environment. The house is user friendly!

Outstanding

  • 5 of 5

We were amazed by this house and the work that went into making it gorgeous inside and comfortable. It was well furnished with comfortable living room furniture as well as very comfortable beds. We both took naps on the recliner sofa. The bed linens were very, very nice. Frances goes above and beyond. This house was so clean and well organized. Guests are provided with unexpected things like a Kuerig coffee maker along with a huge variety of different flavored Kuerig cups. The kitchen has top of the line appliances and had more pots and pans, cooking utensils and dishes than any other place we have ever stayed. Little things were furnished that made a huge difference like dish detergent, lotion, hand soap, and hand sanitizer in the kitchen. The bathrooms had liquid hand soap furnished. Too many things to list that were furnished. If you are thinking of going to anywhere close to this place, I highly recommend you stay as it is well worth the money and a nice hotel room would probably cost a lot more and you wouldn't have the conveniences of this house. There are so many wonderful things to say about this place that I could write a book about it and maybe I just did. If anyone has a complaint about this place, something is wrong with that person, not the house or furnishings. Enjoyed talking to Frances and her relating historical information about the house. We both loved her and felt like we'd known her forever. We really liked that the owner was close by. We will definitely be back.

It was awesome, we stayed for four nights, we could'nt have asked for more, Francis could not have done any more for the way the interior was remodeled. We didn't want for anything. We will definitely come back! Michael from Indiana

Quiet & Relaxing yet everything is 10 mins away......

  • 5 of 5

You will not be disappointed....so much nicer than staying in a hotel & yet the same price. Frances has thought of everything...even if you forgot your dental floss! It was so wonderful having a full kitchen for cooking up meals & yet 10 mins away were downtown JC or Jonesborough. Very convenient & oh so quiet! We slept in every morning, didn't hear a single thing outside....very peaceful! And CLEAN! I had to hunt down my son's toys under things & never saw a single dust bunny!

This was just a weekend trip for my husband & I, along with our 9 year old son, to explore the area for possible relocation. Frances was a wealth of information & really helped us understand the areas around JC, along with the school districts best for our son with special needs. She really went out of her way to help in every way. She got us in touch with a realtor beforehand so we could have everything lined up. By the time we got there, we felt we were meeting an old friend. We actually met her out for lunch one day. So many personal touches, from menus, things to do, and she even came by one evening with a gift for our son. We really enjoyed our visit & highly recommend this charming old schoolhouse....though, it is definitely renovated & immaculate. And the furniture is super comfortable. Plus our son was so happy having his own room. He was in heaven!

Book it, you will not be disappointed. Thanks again Frances, hope to see you again soon. ox
