About Dr. Layne Longfellow

I am a retired college professor and professional corporate keynote speaker. I created 'Lecture Theatre,' in which my informational lectures were presented in a context of live and recorded music, poetry readings, and visual media - a one-man performance art piece to convey serious, useable information.

I have lived in Ann Arbor, Berkeley, Boulder, Cambridge and Yellow Springs; I subscribe to the New Yorker, Nation, Harper's, Atlantic. But I was born and reared in Appalachian Ohio and West VIrginia, and remember the epiphany of indoor plumbing.....

Dr. Layne Longfellow purchased this chateau / country house in 2004

Why Dr. Layne Longfellow chose Capital Territory & High Country

I built this home on this Hill to be next door to my neighbors, with whom I was hanging out here since 1972, when we were young faculty.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Peace, privacy, quiet, natural and human-made beauty.

Every aspect of both houses is unique, having been designed and constructed individually.

The art collection is idiosyncratic - ranging from precious to whimsical, domestic to foreign, craft to fine art, heavy emphasis on the work of friends and colleagues.

My wife, mom, and I absolutely loved spending a week at this home. Here is what made it so great:

- Cozy & warm with lots of great sitting spots

- Great views of forested hills, thumb butte, and the stars

- Close to downtown

- Separate studio was perfect for my mom

- Relaxing hot tub perfect for star gazing

- Lots of interesting art and furnishings throughout the house

- Very well stocked with everything we could possibly need

Prescott, AZ is a very popular tourist and outdoor recreation destination. The downtown surrounds the courthouse square, a historic area. Hiking/biking trails, local cultural events, friendly people, many historic sites - Prescott was Arizona's first capital, and the structure is intact. The climate is so year-round benign that Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University established a campus here, where flight is possible nearly every day of the year. This is a four-season climate, and all are gentle. This is the home of the World's Oldest Rodeo.

It is a haven for antique shops and those who love them.

You can be as active or as 'retreated' as you choose.
