After a day of kayaking, shopping, hiking, beach combing, antiquing, cross country, sailing or just whatever you've been up to... think about coming home to the comfort of a beautifully restored and quaintly decorated farm house. The Homestead is conveniently located just minutes from the heart Ashland WI, with easy access to Bayfield, The Apostle Islands, the Brule River, Cooper Falls State Park and Hayward/Cable (Birkie).
This little farmhouse we call The Homestead, is actually a duplex. Both have a full kitchen fully equipped. The upper suite (apartment) called "Little Scandinavia" is 600 square feet has a bedroom with queen bed, living area, bathroom and kitchen. The lower suite (apartment) called "Times Past" is 900 square feet and has a bedroom with a queen bed, a large living room, kitchen, bathroom, and a sun porch with a double futon. WIFI is available for guest use.
Come enjoy the country, so close to town. Take a walk up the road to enjoy the farm animals at the nearby inn, or better yet, hire Mark to hitch up the horses for a sleigh or wagon ride. This farmhouse was the home of Kelly's grandparents and great-grandparents. We have enjoyed the journey of restoring and decorating it, to make it into a home away from home, for you!

We are Mark and Kelly. The owners and caretakers of 'The Homestead'. It is dear to our heart as it was the home of my (Kelly) grandparents and great-grandparents. Every Sunday evening was spent with my grandpa and gramma in the country (and many other times too). Nine years ago we built our B&B, Second Wind Country Inn to the south of my grandparents old home in the back cow pasture. Our children are the fifth generation to live on this land. We recently acquired this old farmhouse and market it hand in hand with our B&B. So we live at the inn just south of 'The Homestead'. My hubby drives horses similar to what farmed these old fields in the early 1900's just like my great-grandpa. He also still putters on our 40 acres with my grandpa's old 8N tractor. Come take it in...Come enjoy the country...
Mark and Kelly Illick purchased this farmhouse in 2012
Every Sunday evening was spent at this old farmhouse. I (Kelly) loved coming here to see my grandparents. I spent many of hours with grandpa at the barn playing in the hay mow, loving up the cats and helping Grandpa milk the cows.
This sweet farmhouse is charming and inviting. It's the perfect place for the perfect get-a-way.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at "The Homestead", specifically in the unit aptly called "Whimsy." It was nice to unplug for a few days ( there is Wi-Fi, but no TV- gasp) and enjoy the beauty of the country setting. Yes, this is an old farmhouse and not for everyone's taste, but the home is furnished with an attention to detail with lots of vintage antique items that made us feel like we were spending the night at Grandma's house! It is centrally located outside Ashland and close to Bayfield, Apostle Islands and Copper Falls State Park (all within a 30 minute drive). The owners were quick to respond to my questions by email and even gave us a tour of their B & B (located on the farm adjacent). We loved having a full kitchen to prepare breakfasts and lunches as needed, but we found several good restaurants in the vicinity as well. This is a great getaway spot for couples and others that need some time alone to celebrate or regroup/refresh.
Very clean and comfortable overall with a nice hobby farm setting. The kitchen is the most thoroughly appointed of any we've stayed in. We were disappointed that there's no grill or fire pit, since they were at the last place we stayed.
I stayed in the upstairs apartment of the Farmhouse and although there was a couple renting the downstairs, I rarely heard them and enjoyed three quiet evenings in a gorgeous setting. The Farmhouse location was perfect for the time I spent in Ashland, Bayfield, and even an easy trip to Duluth.
Took my family up North for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The kids loved the farm animals and even cried when we left. That's a good sign. Great hosts and a fantastic stay.
We had a wonderful stay in this very clean & cozy home! We will be back and would recommend it to others! Great owners!
The farmhouse was neat and tidy. Perfect for a couple who want privacy. I would rent this property again :)
