About Ann Rosoff
Throughout my childhood, my family spent part of each summer renting a house on the Vineyard. We kids took off our shoes at the beginning of each visit, and put them on again just before we left. We learned to swim, picked berries and made jam, went to the Chilmark Community Center's kids programs and movies, and discovered the best beaches. After several years of visiting and renting, my father fell in love with this spot. He built the house when my sisters and I were teenagers, and later spent much of his retirement years here looking out over the Elizabeth Islands and swimming in the Sound. We have all brought family and friends with us to enjoy the special beauty of this place and the warmth and serenity of this house. It has seen a generation of grandchildren, now nearly grown themselves, all of whom have climbed the trees, explored the beach, picked the blackberries and blueberries, and collected shells and rocks. We have scattered to different places, from California to New England to England - but the house, with its specialness, remains to be enjoyed.

Relaxing family vacation!
My husband, myself and two older teens (and family dog) thoroughly enjoyed our week at this Spring Point/Chillmark cottage. The cottage was extremely clean and offered everything you would need for your stay including dishwasher, washer/dryer, grill, not to mention beach chairs, beach towels, games and books and more. The decor is simple and comfortable. The back deck with views of the sound is amazing, offering wonderful sunsets. The walk to the private beach easy - the beach extremely private and a bit different everyday. There are many lovely walks nearby and within the Spring Point area as well. The fish markets in Menemsha offered great seafood - cooked and fresh and is only a short drive. We also stumbled upon the Chillmark Flea Market which was fun to walk around. Opportunities for great lobster rolls through local churches exist throughout the week. If you need some groceries, Cronig's worked well. You truly feel away from it all here. If you are looking more for shopping, restaurants, people watching, this might not be the place for you. This place truly represents the Up Island experience! Working with the owner was a pleasure - very organized and responsive. This place is a gem!
Classic Summer Cottage on the Beautiful North Shore of Chilmark
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this Spring Point cottage. Its secluded location in an oak forest with views out to the Vineyard Sound is lovely. The path down to the private beach is short and pleasant and not at all steep. The beach itself is gorgeous and deserted. The home has a large deck with a gas grill that did a perfect job cooking our fish filets. Inside, the house is tastefully furnished in a manner that made me feel right at home. The bookshelves were lined with great books that made me wish I could stay for the entire summer. Finally, the owners could not have been nicer, and they provided us with bed linens and towels and more than enough of the usual household necessities to tide us over until we could make a run to the supermarket. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a peaceful Up Island retreat that is close to the Vineyard Sound.
Perfect relaxing vacation
I was looking for a place where we could get away, sit and stare at water and spend time with family. I found the perfect place. What lead me to this house was the view in the lead photo. What sold me was the owner, who was responsive and helpful throughout.
The view is lovely and changes throughout the day and evening. Spectacular sunsets each evening. We spent many hours on the deck looking at the view, talking and reading. Even when it's raining, the living room is comfortable and still affords the same beautiful view, which includes wonderful gnarled black oaks.
We ate dinner on the deck every night, except the night it rained when we ate a the lovely long dining room table. We ate seafood every night, purchased fresh at Larsen's in Menemsha, a 10 minute drive away. A couple of times we had fried clams from the Bite, also in Menemsha. Groceries were 10 minutes the other direction at Cronigs Up Island which had everything we needed. We also got fresh eggs and produce from local stands and the Farmer's Market.
The kitchen works well for cooking. The house isn't fancy, but elegant and comfortable. It feels like home. The outdoor shower is wonderful!
We walked down to the private beach (5 minutes) to explore and swim. We drove over to Lucy Vincent beach (also private) to play in the surf. It's about 25 minutes to Vineyard Haven and 30 to Oak Bluffs. If you want to eat out every night and be part of Martha's Vineyard society, this isn't the place. But if you want to relax, enjoy the people you're with and feel the island around you, you can't do better.
Thank you for our first review - I'm delighted that you enjoyed the house and the week you spent there!!
The house is located up-island, off North Road in Spring Point just over 10 minutes from Menemsha, Beetlebung Corner, and Alley's General Store. The Spring Point area is a quiet, well-maintained rural association with winding dirt roads and walking paths. The Association maintains a private beach and two tennis courts as well. From the house, a 5-minute walk takes you to the beach, an unspoiled patchwork of sand and rocks perfect for exploring, walking, swimming or sitting. A 30 minute beach walk toward Menemsha will bring you past low bluffs with small deposits of clay, and eventually to the ruin of a 19th century brickyard. Get into your car, and in just over 10 minutes you can reach the fishing village of Menemsha, now home to shops and restaurants as well as the Coast Guard Station, fish markets, and a pier for fishing and pleasure boats. Climb out onto the jetty and bring some fishing gear or a picnic, or join the crowd any summer night at Menemsha Beach at sunset to applaud the sun as it disappears below the horizon. Heading toward Menemsha, take the Menemsha Crossroad toward Beetlebung Corner. At Beetlebung Corner you'll find the Chilmark Community Center with its childrens' activities and film series, Squibnocket and Lucy Vincent Beaches, and the shops at Beetlebung Corner itself. Or heading from Spring Point toward West Tisbury, you can visit the Polly Hill Arboretum, Alley's General Store, art galleries, flea markets and farmer's markets - all within a 10-15 minute drive.
