About Sue Thorpe

Paul and Sue, long time residents of Gig Harbor share their love of the water and this special property which has been in their family for three generations. They love to sail and now have the time to travel the world and yet always enjoy coming back home to one of the best places to live.

What makes this house unique

Your own shoreline, dock, kayaks, inflatable boat, fishing and crabbing equipment, plenty of beach chairs and ice chest for picnics are available. Fishing and crabbing from the float does not require a fishing license since it is a private dock.

This is a unique home depicting harbor life as it was in the times when fishermen dominated the village life.

Enjoy the harbor activity of the various boats, kayaks and water boarders from the comfort of the glass enclosed sunroom or on the deck. There is always something interesting happening in the harbor.

The public park activities, such as outdoor concerts, can be enjoyed from the comforts of this home. The park is situated directly across the harbor. The Tides Tavern is also just across the water and is accessible by kayaks or the inflatable boat.

Loved the peaceful, private yard and area

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. Getting to the house the first time, in the dark, was complicated. But once we figured it out, that was one of the many things we loved about it. We had amazing luck catching huge crabs right off the dock. We used chicken legs, caught over 50 in one day!! I enjoyed drinking coffee on the deck and every so often watching a seal swim my. We also caught a star fish, a large living clam and spotted many jelly fish swimming by. The house was large enough to fit many people and had all the neccessaties if you arrive late such as coffee, toilet paper and small bottles of soap and shampoo. Gig harbour was only a 5 min drive away yet the house is way off the beaten path. Very pleased with our stay.

Worked out Great!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 8 looking for a location to log in some family down time. The Xanadu Vacation Rental in Gig Harbor was perfect for us -- big enough to break into small groups or have solo time with space to accommodate everyone at the dining table for meals and games. This is NOT a "high-end-finishes luxury" sort of place. We all felt it reminded us of Minnesota lake cabins only better since no mosquitoes or humidity. The home had everything we needed for meals including a great gas grill. There was plenty of parking. The beds were all comfortable as was the living room furniture -- though we spent little time there. No idea about the TV set up as we never turned it on. We spent the vast majority of our time on the porches and decks watching wildlife and all the harbor activity or in the yard space playing games. The garden surrounding the home provided a tranquil setting we all needed for recharging after some trying family events. We had great meals at Tides Tavern, Netshed No. 9, and the Gourmet Burger Shop in Gig Harbor. The 7 Seas Brewery was great for a couple of craft beers in a comfortable and friendly setting. Highly recommend considering this property if you are looking for space in a wonderful setting. Once you find it, you may never want to leave.

Wonderful location and home

  • 5 of 5

We used Xanadu for a family vacation - three generations from ages 2 to 65 and loved it. It was family and dog friendly with wonderful view and two kayaks to use in the harbor. I brought my kayak as well, so we were able to go out in threes and go around the bay. The kids and parents spent a day at Point Defiance Park and Zoo and we all went to Kopachuck State Park and found layers of sand dollars on the beach.

The accommodations were a nice family environment, clean and lots of sitting areas but not overly fancy, so we felt comfortable and at home. Beds were all good and comfortable. I slept in the front bedroom with a view across the harbor, which was lovely at night with the lights on the dock and the other shore. We were glad that we brought along our own cast iron frying pans and kitchen is small - a good size for one cook! Our dog loved it there too - room to romp and take long walks and she went kayaking a couple times too. Neighbors were quiet and very friendly, when we did run into them. All in all, a nice place!

Great Location and Stay

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed this house. Right on the water in the harbor, wonderful views, setting is beautiful and restful. We kayaked all around (3 minutes over to the Tides Tavern), went crabing off private dock (owner has cages and we caught over a dozen one day) and fishing (didn't catch a thing - oh well). Beds are comfortable. Owner very accommodating (port-a-crib, highchair, responsive to email questions, etc). FYI : interior a bit "worn" and dated, and kitchen very small (functional but not much more).

Fabulous Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The house was big enough for two families with small children. It was equipped with life vests, fishing poles, etc. for the family to enjoy. The property was well maintained and it was wonderful that the rooms facing the back had big windows with a beautiful view of the harbor.

Coming from the heat in Phoenix area, it was a perfect getaway.
