Private 5 Bedroom Oceanfront Luxury Home
The only vacation rental home in Kolea with a totally unobstructed direct view of the beach and ocean! Designed and named Hale Nanea (House of Tranquility) by the home’s architect, this extraordinary oceanfront luxury home in the small gated community of Kolea at Waikoloa offers a tranquil tropical haven where guests can have it all.
Situated on Anaeho’omalu Bay (“A-Bay”), a scarce white sand beach with calm waters, this prime oceanfront location beckons one to shed their stress, relax, and enjoy tropical breezes, sights and sounds!
With irrefutably the best ocean frontage in Kolea, the home is surrounded by a gated entrance, tall lava rock walls and mature landscaping - providing complete privacy for over 4,500 sq. ft. of indoor living area, lanai and mature outdoor gardens.
The beautiful island-themed home opens to a large lanai and spectacular unobstructed views of the beach and ocean. Its spacious indoor area features Italian quarry tile floors (but all bedrooms are carpeted), relaxing living area with vaulted ceiling, separate dining area with a large dining table seating 10. Five well-appointed bedrooms sleep 10 - including 2 huge master suites flowing onto the lanai - and a private bathroom with each bedroom. Each bedroom has bedside tables, dressers, closet and flat screen TV. The additional half-bath allows use by all in a convenient location.
The oceanfront sliding glass walls throughout the home open to a large lanai with a cozy day-bed, cushioned teak lounge furniture, a shaded lounge area, BBQ gazebo center, and private infinity pool and spa.
The large gazebo BBQ center has an Italian quarry-tiled service counter, built-in gas grill, refrigerator, and large teak table with seating for 10. The home includes a 2-car garage with an overflow refrigerator) and assorted pool and beach equipment.
Just steps away, the Kolea Beach Club has a large community pool and spa, children’s sand-bottom pool with waterfall, and a fitness room. Less than a 5-minute walk outside the Kolea gate takes you to the Kings’ Shops and Queens’ Marketplace at Waikoloa Beach Resort – featuring gourmet restaurants, markets, shops (including Starbuck’s!) golf, nightlife – and even a luau. Stroll the nearby “Path of Kings” along the historical ponds in front of the home and learn their rich history from the petroglyphs and posted descriptions.

Wine country family-owned home, with another vrbo rental in wine country - contact us for more information on that one.
Elizabeth purchased this House in 2006
Why Elizabeth chose Puako
After 30 years of Kona vacationing it was finally time to take the plunge and have our own place, and decided to share it with vrbo renters. Oceanfront homes with a long white sand beach and easy ocean access are very rare!
What makes this House unique
Incredible, jaw-dropping views of the beach, ocean, swaying palms, tropical breezes - what more do you need?

Our time on the Big Island was wonderful! We are a family of 7 and the House of Tranquility had ample room ( and then some) for all of us. The best feature of the home is it's location. The view from the Lanai is fantastic! You overlook the fishponds to the beach. It is a short walk to the beach, to the Hilton and to the King and Queen's shops. The lanai is a great place to hang out and we used the outside kitchen/grill area daily. Our favorite spot to watch the sunset was from the hot tub! Overall the house was clean and organized, but there were some areas that were dusty. The center island in the kitchen was a nice area for all of us to help out with the cooking. Some of the kitchen wear is getting worn and needs replacement, but the kitchen did have what we needed as far as pans and bowls etc. to make meals. Our time there passed too quickly. Mahalo!
Thank you for your review, it makes us eager to get back and enjoy our favorite tropical paradise! We apologize for the dusty spots, and appreciate knowing about it. During the crazy busy season we don't get over often to stay on top of the cleaners. We're not sure what you mean by kitchenware, and wish there were more details, but there is actually a new Bosch dishwasher being installed tomorrow. We're so glad you had a relaxing vacation, and hope to see you again in the future.
Lovely home, fantastic location -- just perfect!
We stayed for a week and everything was wonderful! The home is HUGE, lots of space for everyone. The pool and hot tub were perfect, and the beach is so close by! It is nice, actually, to not be directly on the beach (with all the people!) but to be able to see it and get to it really easily. The kitchen is well equipped; the outdoor seating area/BBQ a real plus. The only thing we missed was a sound system outdoors. Otherwise, everything you need for a fantastic stay on the Big Island is right there. It's an easy walk to the King's Shops and Queen's Marketplace, for shopping, groceries, and restaurants. Having access to the Hilton is really nice, too -- we went up there for massages at the Spa. The property managers were very helpful, showing us where everything was and offering suggestions on places to go and things to do. Overall, a great experience.
We are delighted you had a wonderful, relaxing vacation and enjoyed our tropical slice of heaven as much as we do. We're sorry about the outdoor music, however the small gated community rules restrict it. However, we hope you enjoyed the soft, live Hawaiian music wafting up from Lava Lava Beach Club down the beach!
Truly a house of tranquility.
Don't be mislead by the written description and the pictures you will be given re the property. It is far better than can be related in words or pictures. You must experience the place to appreciate it. We fell in love the moment we walked in the front door and looked out through the living room, across the lanai, over the pool and spa, the tidal lagoon, the beach, and the ocean.
We had ten people, two grand parents, four parents, and four grand kids ranging in ages from sixteen to twenty-three. It was perfect for everyone. There is nothing you will need that is missing.
Having a car is a plus; however, you can walk to the Hilton, the Marriott, the golf course, and shopping.
The people you will work with during the rental process and while you are there are great.
My family of 9 rented this house for 12 days in February of 2017. The house afforded plenty of room for everyone to not feel cramped and we barely saw or heard any neighbors. The beach in front is great for morning swims and the Lava Lava Beach Bar was fantastic for happy hour and sunsets. The beds were very comfortable and the pool, hot tub and wi-fi worked great. The kitchen was well stocked - even the knives were sharp which is unheard of in a rental! The location is perfect for exploring the island while staying in the sunniest spot on the island. Management was great to deal with and our security deposit was promptly returned. My only minor complaint would be that the bathtub in one of the rooms wasn't working and Management was aware of this before we checked in. When we mentioned it we were told the shower wall would need to be ripped out to repair it. Then they offered to send a plummer during our stay to take a look - why would we want to deal with that on our vacation? This could have been handled better by simply mentioning it at check in and offering a $100 gift card to the grocery store for the inconvenience. Again, a minor thing, but at this rate you should expect everything to be in working order.
We've been to all the major islands now and I think the Big Island is our favorite. I would certainly recommend this house and we will definitely be back!!!
Fantastic House , Fantastic Location , Fantastic Vacation
We rented the House of Tranquility for 5 days for my 50th birthday celebration . This was the first time that I had rented a house on VRBO. The whole experience was great. First off , Elizabeth was so fantastic to deal with . She answered all of my questions and I had a lot of questions. She was very quick to get back to me on email and phone. My experience with Elizabeth was the main reason that I chose this house over other houses.
The house was absolutely gorgeous . It has 2 master suites and every bedroom had it's own ensuite. I had such a hard time deciding on which master suite I wanted to stay in. All the bedrooms were nicely appointed and outfitted with toiletries and lots of clean fluffy towels. All bedrooms had their own tvs.
The outside patio with it's own pool and hot tub was so picturesque as it overlooked the fishponds . While sitting there , you had a gorgeous view of the beach, palm trees, ocean and fish ponds . Absolutely tranquil and relaxing. Didn't hear any noise from the neighbours or the small beach club beside the house. The outside chairs and oversized couch were great to relax in. The outside bbq and eating area were well utilized by our group. You just wanted to spend all your time outside.
The kitchen was well equipped with equipment, dishes, glasses and lots of pantry items left over from previous guests. It even had a margarita maker . 2 fridges and a wine fridge are great to have especially with a full house of people.
Great living room and dining room . It was great to have so much space in the evening .The 4 patio doors open right up so we had big inside /outside living space The grounds were all very well maintained and had a great Hawaii feeling with all the great trees, shrubs and flowers.
The beach towels were plentiful . Laundry room was equipped with laundry detergent , it was so nice to have.
The mgmt company ( Tjaden and Rob) on site were great and they answered all of our questions and were quick to reply to our requests. Check in and check out was seamless and so easy .
Being in the Waikoloa Beach Resort was great as there was quick access to various stores and groceries.
I would totally recommend this property. I am trying to find another 8 friends to come back with me in 2018.
This house really made my 50th birthday memorable.
Thank you for the glowing review, and we are all so happy you had a wonderful birthday vacation. We strive for the personal touch with our renters and do what we can to help them have a wonderful and memorable Hawaiian vacation.
Great House, Great Location
Age range, 60, 30s, 20s and young kids. The house was great for everyone.
Location: About 25 minute drive from the airport, straight up the highway. Very easy to find. It's situated on the fishpond (look it up, very interesting history) which makes for a nice buffer between you and the beach-goers. The beach is a five minute walk, either through the beach club or marriott sidewalk - super easy to get to. The fishpond is also really neat because you can look in it and see all kinds of creatures from fish to eels and crab. It makes for a really pretty setting. Also, within a one minute drive is a nice grocery market and two nice upper-midscale outdoor shopping areas. Very nice to have so close by.
The other houses in the area are all well kept and we never heard a peep from anyone on either side of us (did see cars in the driveway, so someone was there).
Amenities: The beds where all comfortable. I have some back issues but slept great, which doesn't usually happen when I travel. The beds all have nice, big Hawaiian Quilts on them (as shown in the photos) - very nice touch. The two masters have big bathrooms with standup showers that lead to outdoor, private showers and each has a large, jetted tub as well has dual sinks. All other bedrooms have standard baths a shown in the photos. All very clean and well appointed.
The dining room has a huge solid wood table (very cool) that can seat 10 or 12 without issue - probably more. The kitchen was my favorite part. Very nice Viking kitchen with everything you'll need to cook breakfast, lunch or dinner - something we did a lot. Family room was very large with plenty of seating.
One of my favorite features is the opening walls to the back yard. We had some great nights where we could open up the whole house and let the fresh air in. What a treat.
We spent a ton of time in the pool. It's lit at night and the jacuzzi is heated. What more do you need?
The grill outside works great and we used that and ate outside a few times.
The grounds are kept up really nicely. There are trees and flowers all round the front, back and side yards. The details were not overlooked here.
And last but not least, Tjaden, the on-site property manger, was awesome. Ask him anything and he'll make it happen.
Overall this house really made a great home for our family for the week. We'd all highly recommend it.
What a wonderful review! We are so happy you enjoyed your vacation in Hawaiian paradise - that is delightful! Thank you for the additional descriptions - they are accurate, and most guests make it around the "buffer" ponds to the beach in just a few minutes - and a good number choose to walk to the market, restaurants and shopping, avoiding the need for a car at all! It's a lovely walk and quite short (yet at the house you would never know they are even there!). By the way, the glass doors in the master suites totally open to the same open-air wall as the living area.
Thanks again and we hope to see you another time.
Kings Shops and Queen's Marketplace provide numerous restaurants, gourmet market, shops, etc. The Lava Lava Beach Club Restaurant sits on the sand with gentle waves lapping at the shore only feet away, and a historical walk along the path of the King's around the ponds has information plaques. The Waikoloa Grill has fabulous drinks and menu, with casual salad bar. Whale watching, snorkel and champagne sunset catamaran cruises could not be any easier.
